  1. How about we rephrase the question... What does it say about your roster when you don't even want to use a regular lineup? A week ago Rocco had a roster where he had 2 positions that had "regulars". One has a recent injury history that makes his availability a regular question and results that made me question if he was ever healthy since signing. The second has a longer and even worse history of availability. I agree that regular production requires regular playing time. But, this is a team that wanted to start the season with 2 IFs whose defense were both rock bottom in baseball. If (when) Bader wasn't in the lineup, the outfield also had two of the worst defenders in baseball! It was an obvious (to me) recipe for failure. That Falvey actually seemed pleased with his work is even more of in indictment of his professional abilities than even his outright failure in constructing the roster!
  2. The Rox have the best beer selection and nicest vista in sports. No need for hope!
  3. Needed to be done. No question. Bad baseball being played with no urgency or heart. A slew of one-dimenional (usually only "potential", not results) guys who either lacked the drive to improve themselves, or were unable to be "coached up" by the current regime. It is nothing short of professional malpractice that the "team" ever got to the point it was a week ago. The recognition that this amalgamation was an absolute waste of time is the most promising sign from Target Field in years!
  4. I disagree on Castro. He is absolutely not a building block. He is a luxury on a well-constructed roster. A guy who can step in and play about 7 of the 9 positions. Almost adequately. None of them well. And his flaws at any position become move noticeable with every game played. A good utility guys based on his versatility. But the Twins played him as regularly as a "starter" without a position. The result was poor to adequate defense all over the field, which was nothing but proof of horrific roster construction. My old Ranger truck is is adequate. It always starts. Heat is fantastic in winter (better than my main vehicle). It also leaks from the gas tank if over 1/3rd full, and on muggy days smells like a feedlot. It is a serviceable work truck on a farm. It doesn't make it good for anything beyond that! Like most of our recently departed Twins, it wasn't that he was "the problem", but he surely wasn't "the answer".
  5. Yep... DH only, and no signs of improvement. Simply toooooo slow to ever make that fabled arm anything but an pink elephant! But at least his instincts are better than.... Julien.
  6. Someone at Target Field seems to have noticed that the "core" wasn't a fringe player or two away. The first signs of intelligent life one several years. I'm a Twins fan - kinda hafta believe. Or maybe a a diarrhea plauged goose "farted" in the showers, and half the team demanded out. I may be a fan, but I'm not a(n utter) fool. So I know the second is only slightly less likely...
  7. You missed the next step... ship the 5 guy for 3 ERA guy, and presto! we have competency. Should happen before the next decade!
  8. ...and I wasn't lumping Clemens in with the lumps! I simply don't want people "auditioning" who have zero experience and somehow even less defensive production over an actual unknown. Let Clemens and (possibly) McCusker have a go and see if adding another bargain rack 1B is necessary this offseason, or do we at least have -at minimum- a competent bridge to... well, somewhere better. Love his drive, and hope he just needs a shot. Rooting for it.
  9. I think you are probably overly optimistic about Clemens, you're correct about his actual position in the Twins 1B hierarchy. He is the best of the lot, now. Both as production in the next game, and going forward. No more "he can't play anywhere else, so..." DHs playing every day!
  10. You are correct... 2020 (1st season) was Rocco's 2nd season. Jeffers makes a pretty... poor "list". Just about as good of a list if he wasn't on it.... At least his best attribute is endurance - imagine Vasquez and... shoot, Gasper? Clemens? The 2nd choice FA signing after Vasquez?
  11. I think I bought mushrooms from that guy last time in Hawaii... had that shirt anyway!
  12. Quit picking on Ron Davis!!!! He has to be in his mid 60s. He wasn't all that great in his prime. Wait, we have another Davis that bad??? Crrrrriiiipes!!!!
  13. His double pumps are about 7th on my list... Bad first step Slow first step Slow correction Cast iron glove with no "hinge" or flex Week arm Inaccurate arm Slow ball from glove to throw And that is only his issues in the field. Some of them...
  14. All billionaires are sociopaths... You forgot "cheap" Pohlads! And my DFL comments is didproven!!!
  15. Hard to build around a guy trying to get to 50% of games played... We knew years ago the "Buxton Era" was... cursed. As much fun as he is to watch when he's healthy, we always have to deal with that horrible phrase "when healthy". Even with a Yankees or Dodgers payroll, it is nearly impossible to carry two starters for one position, let alone two starters of star quality. Enjoy what you got, cus he gives it all. He'll literally play until it is impossible for him to do so. But to think he is a building block, well, it is just silly to think his 13th season will be when it "all comes together for him". Could it happen, (280 25 100+, 140 games played)? Sure, it could, but to once again plan on it being so is just plain... insanity! (Insanity- doing the exact same thing expecting different results)
  16. Julien has never shown such ability. Even hitting .282 (his peak) his "defense" made him a bet loss. And then his glove work went into decline... On a well-constructed roster, maybe he has enough bat (probably not, ever...) to be a pinch hitter. On the recent Twins' rosters he is an unusable liability, and lately (1.5 seasons...) needs about 10 roster moves ahead of him, of quality, to be anything but an anchor!
  17. Mauer took a bang to the head and was never the same. And he was a proven all-around player...
  18. Rocco just needed to know Bailey Ober's 4 batting practice HRs were a fluke due to facing Davis, or maybe we stumbled onto our 1B!
