  1. October 27, 1991. I celebrated my 21st birthday at the Metrodome watching a Jack Morris gem. I had legal beer and a 2nd World Series title in 4 years. I later met the largest, drunkest scariest looking happy man in my life on Hennepain (sp?) Avenue. His name was Kent Hrbek.
  2. I thought, and still think, that Jenkins should get called up when the roster expands *assuming I remember rules correctly * without any hype or advanced notice. Call him up play him and see what you actually have. If he is as good as advertising, he is one of the 3 best guys to have out there, long-term. Assuming he stays healthy, of course. I would not expect instant stardom, but I'd like to see a) athleticism, b) defense and c)a willingness to address his weaknesses which will be exposed by the best in the majors. One way to find out just where in his progression he actually is. Gives him immediate feedback on what he needs to work on. Unless he is an utter trainwreck (and he seems professional enough that that won't happen, fingers crossed!) it seems like an idea worth exploring. My only worry is the new ingenious plan Rocco will have to throw a wrench into the works... but I know how to solve that!
  3. I'd rather pay the ticket price to see a young team scrapping for jobs, trying to claw a few extra wins above the 50 more or less guaranteed to every MLB team than the breathing abortion that has been masquerading as a team that we have been "treated" to for the last few seasons. Let's be honest. We just saw the teardown of the most unlikable, unwatchable, unprofessional, and unlovable Twins team of the last 50 plus years. I'll miss watching Bader. You native Minnesotans will miss Varland (utterly inexplicably to me, but to each their own). My takeaway after the deadline has passed? Good riddance to bad rubbish. It is almost unimaginable that it got to this point, but there was no concrete foundation for a team to be built on Monday. On Friday? We don't know. Monday? That we knew!
  4. Any team that wants to run on him does, and does it with impunity. More than enough blame can be attached to the pitchers who are a) bad at holding runners, and b) are not doing anything to improve that, but Jeffers is slower in execution behind the plate than any time since he was a (horribly overmatched) rookie. He has improved before, so he can be prodded to do so. Instead we just need to "trust the process" and not get hung up on individual outcomes.... Sorry, was temporarily possessed by the spirit of Rocco...
  5. Why do you want a bottom 10% defensive catcher (and on a 5 year regression) extended? The best weapon we've got? Sure. But he is a DH with an XL equipment bag! I am 55 years old with 9 fused vertebrae. Not only could I steal 2B off Jeffers (and all but •2 of Monday's pitchers), I'd be able to take 3B if I didn't paralyze myself getting into second. Mike Piazza like defense (and rergessing) without the equivalent (lol, not even close) bat. He is a problem, not a solution for this team. These are the precise types of deals Falvey has jumped all over for everyday players, and we've seen the results over the last several horrifically inconsistent seasons.
  6. I'd direct you to a post I made yesterday, if I knew how... It involved "firing" explicitly (no "mutually agreed" or "reassigned to new duties") and publicly. It involved profanity and law enforcement. Pretty sure I had you covered.
  7. "No longer working..." Interesting phrase to use in relation to anything the Twins have done... well without question since the start of Falvey's reign. If by "working" you want to trot out the Bomba squad, I ask how you expected the Twins to ever cover the payroll of an elite slugging team over any period of time??? No one is overpaid like a slugger, and Minny was never going to be able to keep that train on a Target field track. This team hasn't "worked" in a while now. Literally or figuratively...
  8. Over a K per game. "Tools" that aren't actually tools (i.e. elite arm strength, but so slow in the delivery that his arm grades out among the worst in baseball, for an example) sounds like the Falvey dream player!
  9. Best day in "the last two years." Somehow the Twins over that period of time have been the negation of a team! The collective of 25 men were worse than the sum of their parts. It was and is, a disaster that is hard to fathom. We have more good arms and pitchers than at any atme in my memory (I'm old enough that Rod Carew and his batting stance ruined my baseball career before I started school...) but we see position players pitching over once a month. Our biggest "stars" are half time players. And to backfill those empty innings and at bats the try and prove they are the smartest men in the room by signing players currently recovering from Tommy John surgery to a multi year deal. Or failed DHs to play defense. I ask myself "Why are you a fan of this bassackward franchise?" And all I can say it is despite this iteration, not because of it. Now that all the dominos have fallen, I will say that I'll miss Bader. He is a ball player. Everyone else who is gone? Nothing but an embarrassing reminder of the rank incompetence of Falvey/Baldelli & Co.
  10. I'll accept a fundamental mistake. What grates on me is that there is no expectation on this team that you play professionally - you give an honest effort and improve yourself as a player. I cannot think of a single Twins position player who after being called up has actually improved since since Jeffers came up and was told by Paul Molitor that he needed to vastly improve his defense to have any chance of sticking. Jeffers worked to improve, learning from Kurt Suzuki (and rumors of Mauer whispering in his ear) to become playable behind the plate. Wow, just realized I have posted that the Twins haven't developed a major league regular in the entirety of Baldelli's tenure. And I'll stand by that. (Add in that the last sucess has regressed defensively so badly that he is worse than at the end of his 2nd season, so...) That f**king stinks!
  11. And yet, the case can be made that he has been the Twins' best everyday player since he signed! More an indictment of the Twins utter lack of overall star players than testimony to his greatness, but...
  12. "You're doing great son, you'll be a star. A star! You just need to do one more thing..." Pass.
  13. Looking at the Saints record, it ain't going to be a very good or entertaining minor league team...
  14. Let's be honest... At this point in Falvey's tenure why in God's name would you want him picking new bats and gloves???? This is a guy who was happy signing Joey Gallo! Who thought a "good" Twins team for this season included an infield with Julien and Miranda. If we have to put up with Falvey's overall incompetence, at least keep him acquiring pitching as he has a couple of positives as opposed to his signing of position players where there have been about 3 non-negatives in his career!
  15. What's amazing is that an average (and falling) bullpen had so many guys others are interested on!
  16. WTF??? They got rid of an injury waiting to happen carrying a 5 ERA. Add in a guaranteed contract for a AAA pitcher nearing an 8 ERA and you whine like a b!#@h that they are being cheap???? Anyone at AAA starting can replace Paddack (now that the worst pitcher on the staff is gone!) with the added plus of having possible upside. They traded mistakes. No one was.going to come in and blow you away in a trade offer for a broken down, no length #5 starter. Even less for your #6-8 starter at AAA! Get checked out dude! Your irrational hatred of the Pohlads has you making an abject fool of yourself. There are plenty of reasons to trash the Pohlads, Falvey, Baldelli et al without working yourself a manufactured dizzy over dumping salaries that really should have been cut/dfa'ed/fired before this. Getting anything for both is really nothing short of amazing. Best move by this FO since deciding Bader was a good deal - possibly the only good move since, but...
  17. Guess we'll find out if Jax is a pitcher, or a thrower with "elite" stuff!
  18. All that has to be done to finalize the deal is for the Twins to agree to eat his contract as he plays it out elsewhere. Seriously! Every report (report, not analysis) say the only hangup right now is that HoustonHoustons him back for free. The trade will cost them prospects/players/bag of balls, but they actually expect the Twins to keep signing his paychecks. So... Correa ain't leaving for Houston until the season ends. It is where he and his family live. But anyone expecting this team to eat $30M a year just hasn't been paying attention! He is our Pottery Barn project- we bought him and Pottery Barn doesn't do refunds on broken stuff. Especially s××t from the discount and distressed bin we plucked him from
  19. When there is new ownership there needs to be two announcements within two days of signing the agreement. 1) Fire Falvey. No "reassigned to new duties" or any other stuff. "You're fired, pack your shi... and be out in 60 minutes or you will be escorted off the property and law enforcement will be called." 2) Fire Baldelli- see notes of Falvey firing.. Otherwise just keep the Pohlads, cus ain't nothing going to change without a gale of fresh wind to blow the detritus out of Target field, we are in for more of the same poorly mediocre baseball for the foreseeable future.
  20. Doesn't have to "or", it can be "problems" plural... Sub .500 teams seldom have "a problem", they have problems. The Yankees have a problem in that their CF is a LF. The Twins have problems, plural! A problem can be solved, often in multiple ways. Interwoven problems directly relating to player types/skill sets and roster construction are much harder than covering for a butcher in the field.
  21. Insanity- repeatedly doing exactly the same thing and expecting different results.
  22. "Long term future",,, So, maybe for his 12th season (2026) we might finally see him get to 500 at bats in a season???? "Building around" Buxton is now officially insanity!!! We can when that became the case, not if it is true. Lord knows that he is an absolute treat to watch play in the field. That anyone can say with a straight face that he might be the best CF in Twins history (laughable IMO, but...) is a testament to just how exciting he is to watch when "on", No one expected his production (hoping is not expecting) to be the best of his career for the simple fact that almost no one emerges as a legitimate star in thier 30s. Or in thier 11th season. Especially when those previous 10 seasons were all cut short due to injuries Expecting a (first) full season in his 12th (or inevitably after next year his 13th) is foolish. We all hope for it, but using him as a building block for the future is... professional malpractice.
