  1. Someone with an option will go down first, so either Cave or Astudillo. My guess is Cave, then Gonzalez and Astudillo become your back-up out-fielders.
  2. Today is March, March 15, in the year of our March 20March9.
  3. Winter never left.
  4. Because Minneapolis will likely have snow falling at game time. If you thought the white Metrodome roof made it hard for the defense to see pop flies, imagine playing when millions of tiny white dots are falling amongst the one white dot you're supposed to catch. It would also likely be one of the coldest games in Target Field history. Best to call it now so people don't drive here expecting a game. Saturday and Sunday are both expected to be at least in the 40s.
  5. Makes sense. Dick and Justin were talking about the need for another left-hander in the pen last night, as Mejia was struggling to throw strikes and Rogers is just one man.
  6. There's going to be a team somewhere, at some point, who needs a major league-ready catcher to start yesterday.
  7. For the record: the Philly cheesesteak at Target Field is not worth the $10. Too little meat covered with too much Cheez Whiz.
  8. I'm working that Friday night... but I still bought a special ticket to get this shirt before I start that night!
  9. When Sano comes back, it'll be a bench of Garver, Astudillo, and Gonzalez. The only way that changes is if Castro can't get into the "swing" of things and he is out-played by Garver and Astudillo; at that point, it because a bench of Garver/Astudillo, Gonzalez, and Castro. Castro does not have the versatility of those three, and quickly becomes the dispensable piece of the bench/roster.
  10. I remember in 2014 when the Twins lost of 3 of 4 to the last place Texas Rangers at home, I angrily cried out "I can't believe that we just got beat by the worst team in baseball!" and someone answered "Than they're not really the worst team right now, are they?"
  11. The Twins have more batters with a positive "HBP" in their stats than homeruns. And that includes Cruz. Not complaining; plenty of balls hit this series that would have been homeruns in June (Polanco, Austin, and Garver) and as long as the Twins are winning, keep those HBP coming I guess? Not sure how to make that connection.
  12. I assumed the first day game after a night game would see the bench (Astudillo, Cave, Austin, et. al.) start. Today's as good a day as any to get everyone involved and rest Gonzalez, Schoop, Cron...)
  13. These off-days this early in the season gotta be hard for the players to find their rhythm, but it's damn near impossible for us fans to get into a grove, too! I've got no beer in the fridge, I still have work to do... I need some consistency early in the baseball season.
  14. A three-way tie for first in the AL Central! This division is not going to be decided until the last 161 games of the season!
  15. Buxton's double was a moment of relief, but his catch against the wall in (I believe) the 5th showed more what the Twins were missing for most of 2018: his glove, his speed, and his game-changing outfield defense. Ball seemed to not carry as well yesterday as last year. I think if it was warmer Kepler may have started the game with a homerun and added an extra base hit later (the flyout that Buxton tagged on to go to third.)
  16. The more selective Baldelli is with using Harper, the better. I feel if he is over-exposed, his pedestrian fastball could become more hittable; same with his curveball (it's nasty, but the really good hitters over time will be able to sit on it and time it perfectly.) But for now: congratulations Harper! You've earned your spot, now do everything you can to keep your spot.
  17. Get the Twins at or near the head of the division by mid-July; Falvey and Levine have to take the steps to actually add bullpen help and a top-end starter then for a deeper post-season run, right?
  18. It may be cold for the Twins' first three games of the season, but the good news is that it will also be cold for the Indians' first three games of the series.
  19. Is Austin on the Opening Day roster in the hopes that they can sneak him through waivers in a few weeks when all of the other MLB rosters should hopefully be set with no room for anyone to claim him? Unless Cruz or Cron go down or struggle mightily in April, his redundancy makes him the first on the chopping block come either Sano's return or Perez's move to the starting rotation.
  20. Isn't there a bar up there called the 573 Club? I assume it is part of that bar's branding.
  21. That will be the best problem the Twins could have this year or any year. In 1991 the Twins played Chili Davis in Game 5 in Atlanta in place of the slumping Shane Mack in a futile 14-5 loss, so ultimately it didn't mean much.
  22. Max Kepler will become the German Jacque Jones. (1-0, pronounced "Eins-Null.")
  23. There's a reason ballet dancers wear slippers. All blame goes to the maker of baseball cleat shoelaces.
  24. I've worked at Target Field the last two years, and yes: there are still people who enjoy going to the park for the games themselves, particularly when there's history to celebrate (Hall of Fame weekends) or happening (Mauer's last game.) There haven't been too many sell-outs these last two years (even with the Twins in the Wild Card hunt in 2017) but there are still thousands of fans every game intently watching, scrutinizing, keeping score, cheering and booing at the appropriate times. But then yeah, there's people who spend the entire game in one of the many in-park bars, never once looking down at the field or even up at the screen; there's kids who want to play at the playground (which will be even bigger this year) the entire time; and there's people spending the whole game on their phones; and you just want to shake your head in the most dad-way possible.
  25. I've been told that teams in the south don't want to host more home games than average in April and May (and March this season) because they don't sell as many tickets when school is still in session. So the schedule-makers are forced to schedule games in the north that have a very good chance of being snowed out so Miami doesn't have a host of low-attended games (at least, more than they normally do.)
