  1. I still giggle when I hear the name "Albert Pujols." It sounds like a name the censors working on "Ren and Stimpy" would have rejected for being too-dirty and childish.
  2. Finally, he has something in common with Ron Coomer!
  3. I was lucky enough to go to three home games this last week. In every at-bat, Santana looked like he was swinging just to not miss the ball. There was no authority in the swing, no snap: each swing- regardless if it was the first pitch or a 1-2 count- looked like a defensive, "let-me-just-get-a-piece-of-it" swing. He needs to go down to get some confidence back in his swing, ala Vargas and Arcia.
  4. I am sitting on the first base line for three games this week (counting Memorial Day) about ten rows behind the Twins' dugout. (Just happened to win tickets to three different games, and they're all in the same general area.) Had one foul ball land about four rows in front of me yesterday, but that was it. Really hoping for one Friday or Saturday...
  5. I was in Detroit this winter (Super Bowl Weekend) for work, and walked down to Comerica (and Ford Field, which looks like nothing more than a giant warehouse from the outside.) Even though it was bitterly cold- and we were less than 24 hours from a terrible blizzard, I'm glad I did. Lets of pictures of the concrete tigers, and I stopped at Cheli's Chile Bar for a cheesesteak and beer- both great. Made plans right then and there to make Detroit one of my upcoming summer roadtrips to see the Twins (this year bringing the father-in-law for his first out-of-state game to Milwaukee.)
  6. The fact that the Twins aren't asking the Miguel Sano try playing a different position than third at this point is still making me uncomfortable. Plouffe has earned his time at third with improved plate-discipline and defense, and - being under 30 - can help the Twins for several years still. But Sano is nearly there when it comes to being major-league ready... one of them has to make a change to somewhere, and having either DH would do neither Sano's development or the team any long-term good.
  7. No lightsabers allowed in Target Field for Star Wars game tonight. My 3-year-old son is going to be so disappointed... Heck, I'm so disappointed...
  8. That's the first lead for the Twins in 2015, first RBI for a Twins' player in 2015, and first lead for Molitor as a manager!
  9. Would Hunter be willing to come back in a Jim Thome-type role (at least, the planned role until Mornuea's concussion) in 2010? Meaning a bat off the bench, occasional DH, and 4th- or 5th-outfielder in 2016? With Rosario and Buxton looking to come up sometime this year in the outfield, and if Arcia and Vargas keep their bats in the lineup, and Hicks can do enough to stay in the majors, where else would you/could you put or use him?
  10. Just think if Vanimal and Pelfrey had both stuck, too... no one in the minors would be coming up! (Although we probably would have only signed Nolasco of Ricky/Hughes/Santana in that scenario...)
  11. I don't get the "DHing [Hunter] full-time" notion, with the great September showing of Kenny Vargas. Is the plan to start Vargas in AAA, since he had not seen that level before being promoted (out of necessity) late last year? Or would Hunter be willing to move to left field to keep Arcia in his natural position in right? Because- for the future success of this club- both Arcia and Vargas need to get major league at-bats before this team is back in the playoff picture.
  12. It appears the Twins are part of Bruce's no-trade clause anyway... which will make it just a bit more complicated to pull off. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/details-on-jay-bruces-no-trade-clause.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
