  1. My hope is that this fiasco reverses the trend of 12 and 13 year contracts. The ability for large market teams to carry years of dead money gives them a competitive advantage over medium and small market teams.
  2. #1 gets a bad case of mono and is couch-bound #2 smashes Daddy's Benz and is grounded .... And you're still standing
  3. So many choices and all of them perfectly valid ?????
  4. Be sure to pack your flipflops and trapper hat.... Never know what you're going to need in November ??
  5. Well how wild would it be if our FO went from being viewed as Boras's rubes to the best poker players at the table in one move?
  6. I have tried quitting. Looked to the Brewers (only other team in the 5-state area... and, well, beer!), the Rays (interesting results from a minimal payroll and they have a stadium worse than the Metrodome!), the Rockies (I like mountains). But none ever tugged at my heartstrings the way the Twins have (good, bad or ugly). So when my non-baseball friends inevitably ask how the Twins are doing I always tell them being a Twins fan is 'Not about winning' ? ?
  7. I will be happy to not be watching the 19th game against Detroit ? It will be interesting to see if the change has any impact on the Central divisions… Both the National and American League Central divisions have historically been the weakest. I always thought that was in part because they were insulated by playing so many games against each other. Now they will be playing more with the big boys on the coasts. Will they need to step up their spending to stay relevant?
  8. Sano's stats are exactly the reason you need to look up from your spreadsheets once in a while (and I do live my spreadsheets ?). Look at Kirk Cousins.... worst QB rating of his career, best W-L record. There is a human element that cannot be quantified! I believe that is where great coaches, managers and FOs are defined.
  9. The upcoming TV contract is likely to be much less lucrative. Diamond, the company that runs Bally, is drowning in debt and considering bankruptcy.
  10. And what becomes of the analytics when steals, bunts and hit & run are no longer used by most teams? How good are the analytics after they have been fed lop-sided metrics?
  11. Agree completely! But, I don't believe that running a team as a business requires that team to be dull and non-competitive. That is where the FO comes in. Their mission should be to field a team that is fun to watch, and surprises us with a competitive run now and again. Unfortunately, I do not believe the current FO (or manager for that matter) has the skillset to accomplish that ?
  12. I think you make the case for why we were not misled. They told us who they were, we just chose to hear “I’m totally on board with him coming back,” instead of “But I don’t know how it’s going to go.”
  13. CC was never about take home pay. It was all about bragging rights on the biggest contract.
  14. I think you're spot on. Unfortunately, the FO doesn't have the equipment for fishing in the ocean, but is not satisfied with a stringer of walleyes from Winnie... to put it in Minnesota terms ?
  15. Pains me to do so, but I must agree ? Good point!
  16. He has almost single-handedly changed the way baseball is managed financially. It is now SOP that contracts will entail significant dead money in the final years. What does baseball look like 10 years from now when big $$$$ teams carry more in dead money than small $ teams have in total payroll?
  17. Seems like the Twins fan base has pivoted pretty quickly. Now, let’s hope the FO can do the same!
  18. Relieved to have a resolution! The new world is full of possibilities and opportunities!!
  19. If you want to bring fans back to the park, put an exciting product on the field! And that is not necessarily the most expensive product. I've been a Twins fan for 55+ years (yes, I am old). I've watched some Twins teams that may not have been anywhere near elite, but they left everything on the field! Let the kids play, steal some bases, run out every contact and put pressure on the other team's defense! When a pitcher is hot, don't kill the momentum because he has reached his pitch count! Baldelli-ball is dull and uninspiring ?
  20. And look how well that turned out for FTX! At least we won’t have to look at their logos on Umps next year ? But seriously, I think that contact structure would be win-win… which should be the goal with negotiations.
  21. I like that it is a fresh start. They had quite a hodgepodge going on the last couple of years. And glad to have the pinstripes back ?
