  1. Have not paid attention to Severino at all - he sure seems to be worthy of paying attention to from now on - amazing stats. Wallner……have been reluctant to promote him being promoted. Not sure there’s any room on Big Club w/o demoting Martin - doesn’t seem fair. Wallner sure looks ready to contribute! Can’t stay in St Paul all the way to September 1st can he? Definitely is the expanded roster guy.
  2. Definitely a bummer! Until reading this I was thinking 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks. Wow - middle of August at best?!?! Offense isn’t the same but it’s not a disaster……..defense replacement seems seamless.
  3. How many “elite” relievers are there? Who are these guys? Stewart is elite - nobody wanted him…….Staumont, while not elite, hasn’t allowed a run and nobody was pushing hard to sign him. IMO, Varland & Paddack back to the Pen over the last 3 weeks & into October works. Lewis’ throwing error and Lewis getting thrown out in 10th at 3B on a fly ball to CF essentially created 2 of those 5 losses. Always looking for the new guy or the better guy…,fun to consider but there are no perfect Teams.
  4. Big difference between walking nobody (or few) and “command”. To me, command is locating the ball properly, not loosely throwing it into the strike zone. He’s got good enough stuff! His command is mediocre, particularly with his changeup. He continually threw his fastball center of the plate, 6” below & 4” above the zone. Intentionally, I think! Eventually, (grand slam) a guy will sit on that pitch if ahead in the count. Maybe mixed results for the hitter but it’s an increased opportunity for the batter. Up and in, or even better, down and away or down and in off the plate, (any variation) occasionally, makes everything more effective. He gave up a high, center cut fastball for granny & then, in next at bat, hung a change in the middle of the plate. “Strikes” but with poor command! I think most of the issue is immaturity and developing between his ears, not physical capability. He was shaking off Vazquez and throwing fastballs like he was Nolan Ryan - it caught up to him. …….I think his future is solid, just needs to gather himself and be smarter pitch to pitch and in less of a hurry. Just an opinion.
  5. Nope…..gotta be fair to them and there’s other more experienced options in between……not all about stats.
  6. I think he gets one more look in or around the 8th and hopefully Paddack is rested up by July 19-20 or so……if not, it’s problematic.
  7. LET’s FIRE THE WORTHLESS HITTING COACH!! Let’s DFA 4-5 guys!! …….,etc.,etc. Can’t believe they don’t sign Blake Snell!!!
  8. Great offensive month! Buxton was really good the latter 2/3 of the month! Castro seemed pretty impressive as well in June, to me. LOOONG Line-up!
  9. How about a MERCENARY, and not a “nice value trade”, per the premise? To: Either team……some guy like Severino or Kiersey …..maybe add an A ball kid…..FOR: 1) Aroldis Chapman OR 2) Matt Moore PEN: Staumont - Alcala - Varland - Paddack - Stewart - (Chapman or Moore) - Jax - Duran in October!!!!
  10. Line-up not posted yet …..RH starter for Tigers with one start this year and a 9.35 ERA….gotta think they let Lee get a piece of that opportunity!! Guesswork: Lee - Miranda - Larnach - Correa - Kepler - Santana - Buxton - Castro - Vazquez
  11. Seems to have been the right guy to me….,,anybody can have a down year due to injury. He’s on the shortest deal and all years should be in productive career years for him - through age 33-34. Nice bench/clubhouse leadership…..solid production offensively and with glove/arm ….,very motivated to WIN - very outwArd showing it’s important!!! ….not sure how much of that the other teams got?
  12. Duran is the Closer! ……sometimes it makes more sense in an even ballgame to get him in the game in the 8th to have a for sure “hold”. Also, he comes in during the 8th to get through the heart of a line-up occasionally. You’re excited (many are) about Alcala’s velocity getting to 100-101Mph & that’s great…..however, Duran’s velocity drops to 100-101Mph and he needs to “work things out.” He missed 3 plus weeks and already has thrown in 28 games. He’s thrown 26 plus innings & his WHIP is .975 - way better than year one or year two! He’s 3-3 and he’s made maybe 5-6 pitches that were not located and subsequently drilled by the opposition. He surely could have been better! Couple times a combination of bad choices have lead to problems……(curveball to LH hitter in a 0-2 count that hung, etc.) Duran doesn’t deserve Pitcher of the Month but he is squarely the best guy we have to Save games!!!
  13. 9.35 v. 9.00 ERA’s starting tonight……hoping for 4-5 innings & 3 or less runs….,not worried about depth of start - unless Twins get up 7-0 or something crazy. Just need a chance from Festa.
  14. Lee up……..Lewis to 10 Day IL. Stewart or even Canterino to an extended IL designation of some sort? Seems Stewart is out or should be out through July at this point. Seems like clearly an automatic move to be made.
  15. His issues today forward nor in the past have anything to do with Team treatment of him. You can’t play if you can’t run. He said last night he would have had no chance to score on a base hit from 2B…….. poor communication & judgement from a young player who is anxious to contribute. Lewis needs to be physically able to play and the Team will happily put him in the line-up.
  16. He walked twice last night and had a double. That’s really good. If he didn’t have a weakness with sliders he’d be next to perfect & he’d hit .450………..there are no perfect players…….back to reality. Just think how many home runs Pete Rose would have hit if he was only 6’2” and 210lb.!!
  17. The batting stats issues (OPS) v. RH pitching were enriched by Wallner’s .080BA before he was sent to St Paul. I don’t see the Club trading a Native Minnesotan, an inexpensive guy that has decent OF play - with potential to harness his arm into a real weapon - and a whole bunch of power! I still think Lee is the next guy up and Castro eases back into the OF. Wallner will be on the Club in September for sure….,,,sooner than that? Not trading him.
  18. Snell …..he’s managed 23 1/3 so far this year with a 1.944 WHIP and a 9.51 ERA…..he’s making about $1.5M per start in ‘24…..pump the brakes before taking in next year’s $31M.
  19. Can’t imagine a better #7 hitter in baseball? It’s a tribute to the guys in front of him as well, but he really extends the line-up with Jeffers in the bottom 1/3 as well. Speaking of line-up length, Santana - Castro - Miranda….,$8.5M total in ‘24, approximately ……..Wow! ……..,these 3 are consistently performing at the plate!!!
  20. Agreed. I think he’s just more experienced and better pitch to pitch between his ears.
  21. Seems to continually be getting better - between the ears & with command - can’t change his stuff. With his low walk rate %, if he keeps HR’s down, he’s tough to get many runs off of as an opponent. He’s pitched well before against good line-ups, maybe not recently. I do think his mind is better - he expects to succeed now. I think that’s big.
  22. I wanted Luzardo last year, badly, instead of Lopez……be careful what you wish for…. in ‘24 Luzardo is 3-6 with a 5.00ERA & he’s on the 60 day IL!!! PASS
  23. 64K’s/215AB’s…….right? I get 29.8% in ‘24. Maybe my source is off?……whatever, he’s being more effective when not striking out…..we’re talking 2 AB’s in 100 AB’s for the K% difference….not a big deal.
