  1. Kepler was turned around looking backward S he came around 2B & then he ran at about 70% speed into 3B. …….not saying Watkins is perfect in any way but from the Press Box view on replay, Kepler looked awfully foolish running the bases prior to arriving at 3B.
  2. Team didn’t get through the second round last year and needed 4 starters…….still think that’s reality unless the Series are abnormally short. Pieceing together a fourth start isn’t an issue in October…..getting to October is the key right now. I think they go status quo on starters and use Varland & Wnder in the Pen, ASAP.
  3. Martin is clearly outmatched at the plate against a high test fastball - he looked rough in 2 straight opportunities with RISP and 2 outs. His CF play is definitely not pretty but he’ll get better…….a little reckless mentally. Gotta hit cut-off from 120 feet away - no leaping for balls and missing them by 2 feet. He’s high energy to a detriment in moments. He’ll get better. Kepler’s blah base running approach is the norm. He often looks like he’s running on a sheet of ice between 2B & 3B….often! So, I’m not 100% blaming Max if he’s getting poor coaching from third base coach BUT if he isn’t looking back when he gets to 2B (essentially stopping) and he actually runs HARD to 3B, he scores easily. Julien finally looks like a decent hitter and gets us within one and is on 2B with no outs…..Lewis has got to get him to 3B. Lewis is in the slump that he doesn’t do! Trying to hit too many HR’s and not going other way at all…….IMO. Tonkin and Boushley are not as good as Josh Winder, IMO. Hopefully, his 15 day minimum in St Paul will end soon! Jax has been performing well in his role, whatever that might be game to game. No need to alter how he’s used. Guys gotta perform……there’s no Managing around that……Alcala & Duran need to be better!!’
  4. Pretty sure the Twins are 5-2 v. the Royals with 6 games to go……..no guarantee of winning a 162 game tie quite yet.
  5. I held off on the thumb - but it seems somebody needs to say that CC’s plantar fasciitis has nothing to do with his repaired ankle. Last year it was plantar fasciitis in his other foot. Not sure why people keep comparing him not getting signed 18 months ago due to a specific history…… it MUST have something to do with the last 6 weeks of missed time? It’s just erroneous statements. Then rolling it in with pitchers that have been hurt (like every other staff in baseball) is just living to be negative.
  6. So, assuming you are accurate & no reason to think not, what’s the Star-Tribune guy correlating the plantar fasciitis in to his left foot last year? There’s no way that the organization nor Correa referenced his contract breaking down with S.F. lately nor in connection to his foot ailment.
  7. Agreed on Jays, been watching their scores - but need to beware of Braves in the one day at a time world.
  8. Plantar fasciitis has nothing to do with a bad ankle. Last year it was his other foot. K.C., when playing well, is a very good team. So are the Guardians and Twins. All 3 can look rough as well. I really don’t think it makes sense, IMO here, that Buxton & Correa enjoy being in the IL and are content not helping the Team - seems like more than a big reach. These two guys are both having one of their top 2 seasons ever - both have missed time, granted. When Cleveland and K.C. play each other it’s typically a positive step toward one and away from the other……tough not to be. Haven’t seen anyone state this, with Division crown within reach, but finishing 3rd and going to Houston may be better than finishing 2nd in Wildcard and having to visit Baltimore or NY? At this point, fortunate Boston is struggling!
  9. Have you quoted yourself here? Who’s stating this “in quotes info”? ………..maybe the first two sentences but CC nor the Twins would say anything about failing physicals, etc. Both have been conservative but optimistic for a month. Definite could use his presence in the line-up & no timetable is concerning!
  10. I like it, play where needs as necessity dictates - it seemed Lee was clearly more comfortable and just better than Lewis at 3B after just seeing a few games in the Show. Maybe time for Royce to move, due to necessity being Julien & Farmer underperforming!
  11. Gotta flex to fill needs - Lee & Miranda can both play 3B, particularly Miranda in ‘24. No need to get Lewis reps at 2B if Julien or Farmer could play at a high level - neither are even average - time to be flexible. Miranda’s bat in the line-up along with Lewis is a big deal. Lee is clearly a better defensive 3B than Lewis. The torque on the body and legs (potential for) at 2B is a concern but as you say - Lewis should be fine anywhere he plays.
  12. I agree on Varland timing…..no later than mid month to the Pen! Paddack would be a unique guy if available in 30 days from now. Am inning or 4/5 outs at a time could be very valuable. Winder has only thrown 9 innings in MLB this year but over 4 outings he’s got a 3.00ERA and a .889 WHIP. 10 K’s & 1 Walk in those 9 innings…….IMO, he should be up by next weekend as the expanded member of the Pen…..9/1/24. Prielipp seems really desperate as does Raya. Prielipp hasn’t thrown 35 innings over 2 years is my presumption/impression……maybe I’m misrepresenting him? How about Morris in 2-3 weeks? I think they’ll keep Festa available for the 4th starter…..maybe 3rd starter in Playoffs. No Tonkin!!! Funderburk? I’ll rely on the coaches vetting him for action.
  13. WHO gets demoted as Correa - Buxton - Lee are ready to play again? It seems that for September (6 days away) with the extra position player, only two guys need to get removed from what will be a 14 position/14 pitcher roster. Who are the 2 guys? Only options if all are healthy are Julien - Farmer - Margot - Martin. What two? I think Lee for Julien just on defensive stability. Martin sure seems to have earned at least the extra roster spot for the month! Farmer or Margot? With Kepler nicked up as of today, am leaning to Farmer being DFAed. Tough call if one ignores emotion.
  14. Versus LH pitcher in ‘25: Lewis - Miranda - Buxton - Correa - Catcher - Castro - Lee - Martin - DH?
  15. Martin takes Margot’s spot in the OF in ‘25 along with Castro. Neither are great OF but both have speed and above average arms as former SS. If he hits .260 with a .330 OBP he sees a good hunk of games in ‘25!……Team needs athletic, inexpensive roll players……his OF defense will continue to improve with reps, at least to “average”.
  16. USAFChief……..I completely agreed with your synopsis on the pinch hitter/pitcher replacement explanation and I still get a Thumbs Down from you??? Bitter?
  17. Lewis doubled to put the Twins ahead & you’re still second guessing the managing??? …..,just don’t get it …any offensive move/substitution at the plate is GREAT if it works 30% (.300 BA) of the time. It’s baseball - not certainty
  18. I understand & would have agreed 24 hours ago with exactly what you said (I guess I didn’t get the offense can keep substituting, even after first guy is announced). So you cleared up that only one pitcher change was allowed previously - at least until he threw one pitch. Obviously, now the 3 batter rule clarifies the defensive options.
  19. “They” not preparing guys, is nearly every Team in MLB. Last year Twins were #1 in starter innings per outing through July - not sure where they finished. This year, with Paddack being injury prone, Varland struggling, SWR - Festa - Matthews as Rookies………much shorter starts on average for the rotation. Training for longer starts/more innings from starters is an issue across baseball - not just in Minneapolis. Major injuries are common because what is taught/promoted in minors is MAX velocity. Bailey Ober is the oddity in today’s game with an innings average of nearly 6 per start. Max velocity 91-92mph.
  20. Point made - never seen it in 55 years of watching MLB nor any other level of baseball. My impression was once the guy was announced he was in for the AB, period. That’s why the opposing mgr. waits for that occurrence before going to the mound to make a pitching change. I guess the same for pitcher though I’ve never seen two pitchers switched in same AB either.
  21. That’s why Julien spent most of the last 8 weeks in St Paul - he’s a stallion. Struck out looking 3 times in one game - he was pathetic. If Farmer’s playing 2B today it’s a win……… That said, I hope Eddie can be the regular 2B at some point but he needs to earn it……,,that’s not hitting 7 HR by April 27 and none since. It helps your OPS but you’re still the same confused looking guy most of the time. He has had a couple multi-hit games in the last few days - sure hope it sticks! I don’t care if they DFA Farmer by midnight - I just think looking at results and thinking they all should have been anticipated is unfair no matter who is making the decisions.
  22. The reason he’s got more AB’s v Righties is because they make-up 75% of the arms in baseball AND because the “fantastic youth” have not been healthy enough to play. Lewis 51 games out of 130…….Lee 26 games of 130 …….Correa 75 games of 130. ……Julien couldn’t hit well enough to stick. These are not minor issues where an organization just clicks their heels and they all go away.
  23. So, you don’t think Farmer should have been signed in the offseason I guess? He hit .256 last year (career BA of .255) and played in 120 plus games (missed 25-30 due to getting hit in the face). He started for the Reds at SS the year before. Pretty valuable piece in ‘23. Julien quit hitting before the end of April - Lewis got hurt the first day of the season - Lee was out with a bad back. Lee & Lewis (2 guys on 26 man going forward) were not available after 3 innings on Opening Day. Lee, apparently has a chronic bad back that reared its head in the spring & when he got healthy and called up he had a fantastic 2.5 weeks - then he took a nose dive for 3 weeks & then he couldn’t throw. He’s played in 26 games this year. Lewis has played in 51 games this year. Correa has played 75 games this year. Farmer has played in 77 games…….sometime availability rules if we like it or not.
