I don’t disagree that anyone can “lose the game” in an instance on a particular night. I watched the replay of the 2-run homer Jax gave up on MLB network twice this morning and it’s essentially a perfect pitch. Location is the extreme high/inside corner of the strike box at 97 mph. The hitter guessed fastball and somehow turned on the pitch with perfect contact. Great piece of hitting! Tough break for Jax and Team to give up the game with this guy’s 3rd HR of the year………tough to call Jax the goat though when Twins score in only one inning.

You make a good point but I would add that Buxton homered in first game and Team lost. Correa doubled and Buxton helped as well and Team lost. ………..The other dozen hitters need to get together……..they did that on Sunday. Those dozen guys are the ones that lost 17 of 25 or whatever. If they don’t get going it won’t matter what CC & Buxton do.

‘24 though - back to ‘21 $$ total……..complete reversal. To have the same payroll as you did 3 seasons prior is embarrassing ……..particularly with the quantity of minimum salary guys on this current roster.

TIGERS 15-7 over last 22. They started streak 4-0 v. White Sox. They finish season with 3 v. White Sox. Royals & Orioles this week. Need a 3 game lead going into final weekend or we’re in for some real anxious moments!

Didn’t watch more than 2 innings but that’s former reliever Jeff Brantley (The Cowboy) & he does color for Red’s broadcasts. He does tend to rotate out after half the game - maybe that’s the problem over 9 innings? I thought it was interesting that the broadcast blended the two teams broadcast guys.

Lee seems like the choice at 2B along with Castro and maybe Farmer in October…….Julien would be out - non rostered. All of this group are marginal offensively but the Top 3 guys can all back up Correa at SS. Just can’t have a similar offensive guy that makes everyone anxious when he’s on defense, like Julien. Castro may not start in playoffs with Most Starts and AB’s on Team for the ‘24 season. Lewis - CC - Lee - Santana Miranda - Farmer - 2 Catchers Larnach - Castro - Buxton - Kepler - Wallner Frankly, SWR concerns me now more than Festa…….Festa is inexperienced but SWR seems gassed……..Seems Lopez - Matthews - Ober are all 3 lined up to pitch 3 more times……all 3 in last series v. Baltimore. We need 3 wins in the 7 games started between Matthews - SWR - Festa…..hope they can hold it together!!!

4,5 games up on Red Sox with a 3 game series this week - up 2-1 in season series. 2 end in Cleveland and 2 in Boston would really lift us up!!!! Tigers & Mariners only 2.5 games back…….3 back in loss column - Twins own tiebreaker with both. Tigers headed to K.C. for 3 games. Mariners host Yankees for 3 games.

Alcala had a sub 2.00 ERA entering the Sunday Texas Masacre - 9 pitches 4 run lead was gone. Alcala Friday night could have been described as gasoline on the fire after 6-7 pitches. For months most here begged for Varland to be out in the Pen where he’d be much more effective …… Saturday night just proved he’s OK some days and not so good at all on others.

Twins 4, Reds 8: Elly De La Cruz Grand Slam Sinks Twins
JD-TWINS replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Alcala - walks a guy & gives up grand slam on a get it over slider to start 2nd AB…..maybe 6 pitches? He threw 9 pitches v. Texas and the 4-0 lead was gone. Can happen fast! FIVE hits. 2 Walks. Julien - Wallner - Lewis were 0-12 in the first 3 spots in the line-up. Jeffers 0-3 as well. If they get to 85 Wins they have a great shot at the Wildcard but anything less than 7-8 over last 15 makes things look very concerning. Pen is rested for whatever that’s worth. Need to get something positive done over the weekend because Cleveland & Boston will be ready to play next week.- 38 replies

Twins 4, Reds 8: Elly De La Cruz Grand Slam Sinks Twins
JD-TWINS replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tigers still have 5 games with Orioles, who are equally hungry. They also play 3 in K.C. starting Monday. They really NEED to win 5 or 6 of those 8 games. Will be interesting. If Twins go 7-8 over last 15, they get to 85 wins and tiebreaker forces Tigers to get to 86 wins. Tigers are certainly in the mix but it isn’t all lost as of 9/14. IF Twins can get to 85 W’s the Tigers need to go 10-4 over their last 14……..can be done. Wallner’s lack of common sense on the ball off the wall will hopefully be corrected over another 30-50 games out there. A little physics discussion with him wouldn’t hurt in the meantime.- 38 replies

Is Baldelli the worst Manager in Twins/Senators history?
JD-TWINS replied to TopTwinsFan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Alcala gave up a 4 run lead in 9 pitches ……..after 4 pitches it was 4-2. Alcala had a sub 2.00 ERA entering the outing so there was no reason “to have someone ready”. Alcala absolutely sucked and blaming Baldelli for that is nuts. Players have to do their job. I watched the whole thing too and was really pissed off but it wasn’t a Managing issue. He did leave Alcala in after the game was tied…….that could have been handled differently. Alcala got to 2 outs - then gave up another dinger for the loss. Again, he had a sub 2.00 ERA entering the inning. -

Playoff Team often loses 46-47% of their games through 162……..Manager, as you point out, doesn’t lose any more games than they win with strategic moves…….fans love to hate when things don’t go well and assume Wins should be the norm when things go well. -

‘72 offense slid. In 1971 Tony Oliva lead the A.L. in Slug% - was an All-star - Won Batting Title hitting .337. Killebrew was an All-star - he lead the A.L. in Walks & RBI in 1971. Perry, possibly based on previous year, was an All-star in 1971. He threw 270 innings but his ERA went up 1.2 runs to 4.23 while giving up most HR’s in A.L. He wasn’t great & went 17-17. Martin was the Manager for a year prior to Rigney and had done a great job ON the field. In 1970 Rigney followed him, which was what Management/Ownership wanted but it was like watching a zombie manage after Martin - Team had little juice up against the Orioles. -
Buck's Back: Twins To Activate Byron Buxton on Friday
JD-TWINS replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO for September stretch: Larnach - Buxton/Castro - Wallner - Margot in OF Lewis/Miranda - Correa/Lee - Julien/Farmer - Santana in IF 2 catchers I saw somewhere in today’s posts that since August started Farmer leads Team with .946 OPS……..I thought he would be shuffled on to the bench somehow to allow him to remain around Team. Seems he may be taking Lee’s spot as he’s recently played ALL 4 infield positions. Could see Lee & Farmer up the middle defensively late in games if Correa isn’t completely ready to go. Lee moves out in October, as things stand today, since Castro can fill spots in IF as well. -

Buxton is key part of the line-up with his 137 OPS+! Twins best line-up forward: C - Jeffers 109 OPS+ 1B - Santana 108 OPS+ 2B - Julien 87 OPS+ SS - Correa 148 OPS+ 3B - Miranda 119 OPS+ DH - Lewis 122 OPS+ LF - Larnach 114 OPS+ CF - Buxton 137 OPS+ RF - Wallner 159 OPS+ I realize that there is no guarantee Correa & Buxton are able to pick up at the same rate as their season numbers suggest. Seems this is a formidable line-up at any level of the playoffs! -
Thanks! Does 5 fastballs in 22 pitches sound like a recipe for success for Duran? To me, which doesn’t mean much, it would seem 9-11 fastballs would be more prudent if he throws 22 pitches. His fastball should lead the AB’s and the other 2 pitches should work off the fastball. Pitching backwards and trying to fool hitters with breaking balls while having 99-102 in your pocket is mystifying. Pitch mix to lefties - 5 splitters, only splitters. Do not get it at all.

I didn’t see the game last night - am wondering how many of the 3 base hits were off his fastball? In many games this year his struggles have been with him hanging curves to LH hitters ……..am curious. His fastball is intimidating so hitters choose to sit on his off speed because they have better chance of putting those 2 pitches in play. A 97 MPH splinker is devastating as well, only IF it moves down through the zone and isn’t thigh high.

He’s done a nice job! He’s 23 - younger than Festa. His ERA jumped nearly half a run after his rough start v. the Mets. His innings, per the author, are up 20 innings over last year at this point……..20 innings over 23 starts isn't a big leap from one year to the next. I’m hopeful he’ll hold together and give Team at least 4 decent innings per start from here through end of the month. …………….. Lopez quietly 15-8 with ERA down to 3.88…….165 innings with 183 K’s. Ober is 12-6 with a 3.77 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00. These two can take up a bunch of slack in a playoff series. ……….. Zebby has got to give Team a chance in his last 3 starts!!!
