  1. Exactly, he wears a heating pad around his back between innings in every game he plays - I too thought “the park” didn’t have much to do with any issues of CC.
  2. Off topic but big part of Team’s success: Sands - Jax - Duran leading the bullpen was essentially expected heading into the season………. but how about these ERA’s……… Coulombe - 0.00 ….. Topa - 2.14 ….. Varland - 2.54 ….. Stewart - 2.93 ……….Bullpen success to date is becoming ho-hum and all that’s recognized is if a guy gives up a run ……. they have been fantastic. Duran, reliever of the month for May! …. Jax wasn’t far behind.
  3. 12 weeks for Lopez is going to seem like an eternity…….hope he can actually be healthy by September 1! Zebby battles - gotta give him credit. Last night it sure seemed like he kept giving up hits with 2 outs ………probably coincidental but it happened repeatedly. Why….focus or lack of? Can’t walk 2 guys in a row and be successful against any team - I realize the competition difference, but it seems odd he walks 2 guys in a month last year and now he’s averaging 3.8 walks per 9 innings. Here’s to hoping Festa is plug and play this afternoon. Getting Ober & Paddack an extra day of rest helps. Wallner & Correa out and still score runs - fantastic! TWINS top 5 Outfielders OPS+ as of June 5th: Wallner - 142…..Buxton - 123…..Bader - 122……Castro - 121……..Larnach - 110 Bader leading the position players in WAR with 2.0 as of June 5th……..through 2 months, Team has found the elusive RH hitting corner OF.
  4. Pretty sure the author states Suarez has 16 HRS (that’s on a pace for 45) - he can carry a Team through a Series - the more of those types that are on a Team the better. I’m not in love with him but I could say that about 6-7 guys in Twin’s best line-up. He’s got a high ceiling! Relative to positional flexibility………Castro can play IF or OF …..they have 4 other OF. I’m hoping Keaschall comes back & plays 2B with Castro & Lee able to fill in as needed. If Martinez hits, nobody will be worried about him filling the DH spot or coming in to PH in key spots. One or the other may be interesting? I don’t see anyone coming in as they’ll stick with Keaschall & Clemens unless one or both fall off a cliff with their performance.
  5. Royce Lewis will be fine & will improve enough over the next 30 days that it will be a moot point. To me, Keaschall is the only ADD to the roster from here on out. Certainly, relative to position players. Frankly, I’m a little surprised nobody is talking about J.D. Martinez signing up for the 2nd half of the season with someone. Play at a low level a couple weeks & AAA for 2-3 weeks and ready to go by mid-July. If a Team, TWINS, could slot him in between Wallner & Lewis in the 6th hole, I think he could add some consistent punch from the DH spot. $5M for 3+ months in the organization. Worthwhile??? A deadline trade with D-backs for Suarez to DH and play some 3B could be a nice jolt to the line-up. Buxton - Larnach - Keaschall - Correa - Wallner - Suarez - Lewis - Jeffers - France would be no fun for opposing pitchers. Castro - Vazquez - Bader - Lee Suarez seems to add more juice than keeping Clemens……….is he affordable and worthwhile as a rental.m? If they are selling, he may be highly sought after though?
  6. Larnach - Wallner - Castro - Clemens will all remain on the roster after Keaschall comes back and all can play OF and all bat left handed.
  7. Alcala looked like a loose, competitor last night. He was all in or around the zone and threw at least 3 different pitches. He was stoked! He’s got the talent, if he can get out of his own way he can be a weapon again at some point. 🤞
  8. Festa or SWR? ……..from the little I’ve seen from St. Paul (here in Cincinnati) they both seem to be doing well enough to consider. Am assuming SWR is pretty hungry to get back in his role in the rotation - to me, he’s the logical choice………..still need to remember Paddack is a potential injury waiting to happen so Festa can still be utilized in 2nd half - almost certainly, for some unknown reason…….really wishing all the best for Pablo, both for him and the Club.
  9. Pablo down is tough to weather ……..can’t take any chances, obviously, ……….,he’s probably out a month or more, just hoping that’s all & he can make it back. Larnach is locked in and fun to watch……..the competition isn’t great but he’s been coming on for a few weeks now. Lewis is close. Seems his base (legs) must be - might be - just not strong enough yet. He’s barreling balls and flying out to the track once or twice every game. Seems to be less swing and miss though. If he can just be average the Team’s line-up is so much better! ……he seems capable at 3B again - good movement. Great to see Castro inject some life into the Team! Hitting it all over from the right side is really encouraging as well. Wallner sat and still had plenty of offense. Can get to the winning side on the road trip tonight………good luck to Zebby! Varland - Jax - Duran are lined up to help.
  10. The other guys can get the job done, IMO, in the 4/5 slots! However, a guy with mixed metrics suggesting regression isn’t going to net any great return as a pending FA. He’s pitched well & gotten better results. Since his first start, with run support, he may have best record on the Staff. Can’t upset the Clubhouse with any trades unless there is some decline. ………….I still think he runs out of gas pitching every 5th turn. An IL break in August and him returning to PEN in September………filling what is now Alcala’s spot, brings real value!!
  11. Stewart - Varland - Topa ……..these guys are waaay underrated by Twin’s fandom. Stewart pitched well in 3 of last 4 games and Varland is nearly flawless! Topa doesn’t have any flash but just gets outs. Ryan seemed to have wandering mind - wandering emotions - wandering command after Team took the 6-0 lead. Remember he got out of a no outs, bases loaded jam and still gave up 4 runs in 5 innings as well. Team lucky to have a bunch of offense tonight. Clemens is hard not to like - has been a very valuable pick-up! He should be fined for not scoring on France’s double with 2 outs. Cluelessly watching the ball and jogging to 2B with ball hit in the gap. He and France got picked up but that was really poor awareness! 1B coach has some blame as well, he’s gotta keep the runners focused and sharp in that situation. Nice win - they need 2 more on this trip & Pablo needs to bounce back after last outing.
  12. Maybe because the guys that cost more are older & more valuable??? Castro was 0-4, Correa was 0-4, Jeffers was 0-3…………only Vazquez & Buxton didn’t play at all. They play the next 7 days straight from Monday forward & Buxton is coming off concussion symptoms. Oh, and he can’t hit sliders to save his life and Castillo has one of the best in the game……….. I don’t get the “better plan” issue?
  13. I just watched the replay on MLB network & he struck out Raleigh with Rodriguez at 1B……..then Jeffers throws a ball, he never should have attempted to throw, into CF. …….Infield pulled in due to Jeffer’s error - next pitch the ball is a routine grounder to where the SS would have been ………2 outs & a guy on 3B w/o the error. Jax isn’t Superman - other guys gotta make the right plays. He’s fine!
  14. Didn’t see the game today until the Golf Tournaments were settled - tuned in Top of 9th. Bad stuff happened after I saw the wild pitch and Bader’s sac fly. How about Chris Paddack?!?! 10K’s - 5/6 baserunners over 8 innings - let the PEN rest ……….could not have asked for anything better from him nor anyone! When Seattle comes to Target late in June for 4 games they gotta pitch Raleigh like Barry Bonds - he cannot beat you! I know he struck out late Saturday and Jax & Paddack both got him today……..don’t care! He hit 4 HR’s in 3 games and they don’t have that much else in their line-up to worry about. Gotta pitch around him.
  15. Raleigh got signed for a bunch of years but I do think north of $100M. I assume they’ve tied up Rodriguez……..I looked, $210M for 12 years “with the potential” to be $470M over 17 years. They’ve committed some bucks!!!
  16. At first it just sounds like hind sight complaining, but I gotta say that since the only run that mattered was at 3B, (with one out) I like the thought of at least walking Arozarena (he probably steals - particularly after Jeffers was fresh off a throwing error) and then Telez if necessary. Force at home or double play in order with infield up halfway. Not a bad strategy at all!!
  17. They played 2 extra inning games, yes. More importantly, they play 8 more straight from Sunday through Sunday. Having him ready and available against the A’s…….team they should & need to beat is a good idea. Castillo also has a wicked slider, so Byron missing him as an opposing starter probably factored into decision as well.
  18. Pretty sure both Sands and Duran were on IL at points mid-season & early season respectively. No guarantees for health the balance of ‘25. Gotta use guys you have available.
  19. My guess is Topa threw the day before and at some point, Alcala needs to (is expected to pitch to his capabilities) get the guys out when brought in - prior to blowing up. It’s almost like once he really screws up, he takes a deep breath and becomes a pitcher……….tough to watch!
  20. 1) Nobody is trading for Alcala as there are guys all over MiLB that have good/great stuff but can’t “pitch”. They’re not biting with an ERA of over 7.00 and 6 walks per 9. He gets better or they release him at this point. 2) Always can 2nd guess……I thought, in the 8th, that Clemens should have gotten Wallner to 3rd and Castro to 2nd with a sacrifice. He then hit a “rocket” to left and unfortunately Wallner got terrible look at it - really tough situation for him as he doesn’t want to get forced out at 3B either. 3) Watkins must be a prince of a guy because he’s certainly not an effective 3B coach - proven many times over in last 2-3 seasons. Guys will occasionally get thrown out & if that doesn’t happen occasionally the guy isn’t aggressive enough BUT he is bad situationally and inconsistent with his approach. It’s a tough job because it’s split second guessing & you’re relying on the athlete to be 100% on same page IMMEDIATELY……….tough job!
  21. No team in Baseball has starters in Rotation that go 6-7 innings routinely …….who are they? Guys 1-5 (not just 2) in any rotation? Twins, in ‘23 & ‘24 were slightly above average in starter innings. This is 2020’s baseball - max effort & lower innings.
  22. How did using Alcala in high leverage work out last night? He’s an overthrowing head case! If he had options he wouldn’t currently be on the staff. He averages 6 walks/9 innings. Funderburk, like Alcala, is a coin toss each time he throws ……with significantly lesser stuff. Relievers throwing in 70-76 appearances over the year is once every 2.25 games ……..certainly the guys down there are capable of 2-3 innings per week. 35% of the way through the season Sands - Jax - Varland - Duran are at 25-27 innings……that’s low to mid 70’s at end of regular season. Obviously, they need to be protected but there is no abuse or overuse of the PEN arms to date. 3-4 days off every week and no more than 2 days in a row, followed by 2 days off minimum………this is what I’ve observed.
  23. Bride goes away if they demote him - DFA’d……… he’s solid at 3B and they are or should be considering moving Lewis to St. Paul for 2-3 weeks……….oh yeah, and Lewis could be hurt by Monday. Certainly hope not! With Castro healthy, they have Bader/Larnach/Castro/Buxton/Wallner as a full compliment in OF …….. with a much more offensively effective Clemens as the 6th guy on the grass. A whole bunch of Teams in MLB wish they “had a fast guy on the bench” - it’s a calculated decision between Kiersey and Bride and Bride is hitting 150 points higher than Kiersey, so he’s actually capable of being sent to the plate. Bride in 20 games (52 AB’s) has 0.0 WAR & Kiersey in 46 games (64 AB’s) has a -1.0 WAR. Neither are fabulous choices…….to me, it comes down to one has Options and the other doesn’t……..:Lewis isn’t guaranteed to stay on MLB roster to flounder much longer. It’s Bride for now.
  24. Way over the top - it’s June 1st. There are no “gotta have 7 innings” or “must wins” for 10 - 12 weeks. 3 of 5 would be nice to end up with a positive road trip……just my opinion. 7 guys threw out of the Pen last night - a complete game would be great but reality is we’re going to have to hope for 5/6 solid, competitive innings from Paddack and at some point Funderburk probably gets 1 plus innings………..that’s scary for sure. A MUST for me, Alcala being sent down/DFA’d has to be seriously considered. He is the absolute definition of “overthrowing” & then “guiding” his fastball…….extremely tough to watch a guy so talented look so bad 50% of the time. Can’t average 6-7 walks per 9 innings!!! It’s almost like we can’t use him unless down 2 runs or more ……… can’t be competitive for Division with a 6 man PEN. Alcala & Funderburk are a hole in the Staff right now.
  25. Without Kiersey on roster his replacement, Buxton, hit a chopper to the pitcher and his speed prompted a bad throw and he ended up on 3B………….which of those 4 “bench guys” does Kiersey replace? Only have 13 spots and he certainly didn’t earn one.
