“Paddack needs to go - what the hell didn’t they shed Paddack’s salary and get something of worth for the future - how can anybody think Baldelli can manage this team to some competitive level”…………...it’s still early, I get it, haven’t made the playoffs yet. However, it was “even earlier” on April 15th when the lynch mob started circling……it was ridiculous!! I liked keeping Paddack at $7M - didn’t think he’d be effective past 120 innings - still very leary of him getting past July pitching every 5th turn. I liked keeping him being a max effort guy out of the pen with Festa, SWR, & Matthews filling the #4 & #5 spots. Gotta tip the hat to Paddack as his mental approach and command seem to be improving every outing!! …..not here should probably tip the hat to Rocco as well.

I guarantee you that if he gets lit up (maybe twice) the people here will immediately call for Zebby Matthews - my comment wasn’t about reality of Twin’s actions (or what “should happen”) it was about the tendency at TD to always want somebody else on the roster because “we know who the best players are”, until they fail & then it’s the fault of the “stupid front office”. Staff ERA for the Season is 3.38. Bullpen, over the 10 game win streak, has thrown 37 1/3 innings with a .96 ERA. Nothing wrong with the staff that this F.O. put together. Alcala - Stewart - Jax have all been roughed up big time, more than once………still good numbers when blended with the group.

Not really up to date but my assumption was that Wallner would be back by June 1 at latest? I think he’d be retroactive to around April 15? ……I guess Keaschall is an easy move since he’s out til All-star break or so.

I agree with stats - I’d probably go back to the entirety of his starts backing up to ‘24 season to quote stats in a more blended approach. I do get though, that maybe via seeing him and via scouting, the other teams have his number - maybe? I think it’s more on him. He’s 24 - he’s had moderate success. He’s well liked in the organization. I think he’d have to be bad or really flatten out to be considered for a trade in ‘25 or even ‘26. 4.37 ERA if one goes back to all his starts since start of ‘24. 171 innings pitched - 8K’s per 9 innings……..a re-set could be good as he’s always walked too many and then starts throwing hittable (middle-middle) pitches and that leads to a bunch of hits surrendered. I think he’s a decent #5 starter going forward.

SWR had a 4.06 ERA entering today………he got rocked in one of his 4 innings. Not sure if moving him down makes sense - he’s had a bunch of competitive starts over last 12 months. ……….Paddack is just a bad outing from everyone calling for him to be shifted out of the rotation………with no upcoming off days, moving off SWR screws things up relative to “rest” for starters. I don’t see it happening. Somebody has to come up for Sunday - assuming that’s Festa. Alcala may get optioned for 15 days? ……………… SURPRISING NEWS - Twins are last Team IN playoffs in 3rd AL Wildcard spot as of today.

TEAM ERA is 3.32………starters will have some bad outings occasionally but with the 5 they roll out now and the bullpen staying within their capabilities the Team will be competing almost certainly on a daily basis. Lewis - Wallner - Keaschall displacing Gasper - Clemens - Kiersey is a big change in the 13 man position player roster! Potentially, McCusker makes an appearance after Castro can focus on IF duties (w/Wallner’s return) and Bride is displaced. Miranda too could turn things around in another month?

.299 BA & .607 Slug% for a month - as good a defensive CF as there is…….not what he once was but very good on defense. This is a MVP caliber ( in the race) season. Many, many excellent producers in today’s game strike out at a high rate. Hitting the ball at 95mph exit velocity in 55% of the times he puts it in play is impressive. He’s could push counts more and try to walk a few times more per month & his strikeouts are exorbitant……..he’s producing regularly……there is no “perfect” in today’s game. He gets extra bases on heads-up aggressive running as well as anyone in the game!
-
One walk and no runs over 18 appearances kind of moves him past “one of the best pitchers on the staff” IMO. He’s it, within his role. 16 1/3 innings he has 19 K’s and again 1 walk and an ERA of 0.00. He’ll obviously give up some hits/runs going forward but he’s really filled a void and seems to be improving yearly at age 35. Big time addition in the Pen!

Do the Twins have to keep Clemens on 26-man to back up France? How long does France play every inning? ………an obvious thought some other baseball people have considered for probably 10 years, can McCusker play 1B? Does Gasper come back up as the #12 guy as 1B - C - 2B back-up…………apparently tearing cover off in St Paul Does Miranda have a pulse yet at AAA? I guess he’s the logical 13th guy at some point as he can play 1B & displace Bride at 3B. Wrist? Back? Bat to ball yet?
-
Amick is at High A ……..he profiles to get to St. Paul sometime next summer. Loooong way to Twin’s DH spot. McCusker could be in that spot in a week or so……..oddly enough, when Wallner comes back it makes McCusker more realistic. Wallner displaces Kiersey & McCusker can displace Clemens as Castro (at 2B when needed) will be able to be committed to IF innings once Wallner is back. Bride/Lewis - CC - Lee/Castro - France Larnach - Bader - Buxton - Wallner - McCusker Seems like another uptick offensively.

Don’t think he expected 29 pitches today when he put him in…….I didn’t see that inning but it sounded like some tough luck in a double play ball? I thought Topa may come in……..Alcala & Stewart haven’t been consistently sharp, period……am sure Jax said he was good to go, nobody is forced to the mound if health is in question. Jax will get 2 days off, I’m sure. 76 pitches is a light outing for a starter and Jax has his innings spread over 6-7 days…..he’ll be OK! Mental fatigue comes into play for a reliever as well…..I’m more concerned about that issue with Jax. Topa - Stewart - Alcala will all 3 be very rested by Tuesday night………Sands will be fresh as well. Varland is a horse and he’s thrown 25 pitches over 3 outings this week (8 days including Monday off day)……he’ll be ready on Tuesday as well! Just saw Team has outscored opponents 40-20 over last 8 games/wins. That’s 2.5 runs per game given up by pitching staff - excellent! 5 runs scored per game is what Teams do when they win games - nice contributions across the line-up. Defense is a little better now as well.

Ryan battles and stays aggressive. He’s on the edge with fastball stuff (4HR’s a few outings ago) and really fun to watch when he’s rolling. Ober & Ryan, zero walks in their two starts this series - big deal when not overpowering. both have matured between the ears since start of ‘23………..pretty comfortable feeling when they are on the mound! Random stat from MLB TV viewing this morning …….. Byron Buxton (since mid June of ‘24) is 5th in Weighted Runs Created behind Judge - Guerrero Jr - Ohtani - Witt. That’s pretty impressive company!!! Correa isn’t spectacular at the plate yet but he’s up 55 points in BA over past 3 weeks……if he gets back to .260 plus, the line-up is good with Wallner as well in 2-3 weeks………come on Royce….. Big Swing by Larnach! Vazquez had the smarts & guts to throw the ball right at the runner’s rear end and when he slid into bag the throw was perfection!! Nice read & play by Lewis as well. Big moment.

I get your point and it’s frustrating to see a guy his age and athleticism move around like Mickey Mantle at age 33 w/o medical solutions. He looks broken to me. Am in Cincinnati & parallel to Mr. Lewis, Hunter Green is hurt again ………..big chunk of his early years have been on IL or recovering & being protected.

Miranda can’t…..period. Santana: ”It was a decent signing but less to no post-season success.” What? How is the guy who was a leader on offense and defense in any way responsible for the rest of the Team not performing??? They spent a meager $5.5M on him ……his year was so bad or uneventful that the Guardians decided to more than double his salary and commit to 2 years.

They are real numbers. He posts - unlike Miranda! Jose has been hurt 3 straight seasons & he’s 26…… My point isn’t Carlos Santana is a superstar ……. Cleveland saw it was a good idea to sign him for 2 years at $12M/yr at age 39……. they aren’t exactly big spenders. The Twins signed France for $1M. Miranda would make $760K if he could muster the ability to play and perform. He got sent down because he was brutal at the plate & this was with 3B wide open for him with Lewis out. Then he got hurt handling a case of water. He deserves more of an opportunity than he’s been given? Don’t think so. Who is the better option for ‘25? Santana was a MUCH maligned signing by Twins FO in ‘24 - by end of April many TD followers wanted him DFA’d. He won the Gold Glove - he actually lead the Team in offensive punch……….he wasn’t MVP level but he probably was the Twin’s MVP. My point is that Santana was a success - Stewart is a success - Coulombe, Bader, & France are all successes to date! The slant is that the guys in the front office aren’t total screw ups is my point……..and that’s all that is portrayed here almost daily, “they’re clueless”.

Hank Aaron’s my favorite player…….have a framed ‘57 World Series pennant in my basement……got it from my older brother in 1972. Am making a point that “the slow start of the Team” is not the reason Bader “seems” to be having a good year. I’m not looking it up, but at a .289 BA, I doubt 10% of MLB is hitting at a higher average - same with his OPS+. Eddie Matthews got plenty of press next to Henry………I’m not suggesting Bader is a star (didn’t like the signing)……I’m saying he’s earned some notoriety based on what he’s doing not because others are underperforming.

My assumption is this article is Fiction - the player’s stats are fabricated as well - no way the Twin’s FO makes a good signing via FA - no way. Other than last year’s $5.5M signing of the Team’s leading HR & RBI guy that also happened to win the Gold Glove at 1B. Maybe that didn’t happen either???

“They stand out more……” France - as a $1M signing is waay above any expectations (leads team in RBI) regardless of other’s slow starts - Bader with a 135OPS+ & .289 BA would stand out if he was next to Hank Aaron in OF - Coulombe hasn’t given up a run, zero, which typically stands out on any staff!

Nobody’s sure about the results going forward for Twins nor anyone else. Correct, that’s why they play the games. ……….. Correa just getting more toward normal self - Wallner back in 2-3 weeks - Lewis has to be at least an Average Contributor going forward - Keaschall a wild card add after the All-Star break. I like the roster, if healthy. They’ll have bullets for trade at deadline with young pitching, if they want to pursue someone specific for the offense. Could just keep their young guys and SIGN free agent J.D. Martinez June 1st and pay him $8M or so for the balance of the year. He could take the month of June to get sharp in St Paul……….worth considering. He had a 107 OPS+ with 41 XBH in ‘24. He’s not washed - just expensive for a DH “only”……..maybe it’s $5M with another $3-$5M of incentives? I’m assuming he’d like to play?

They started ‘24 at 7-13 and won 12 straight at one point. ………..23 games over .500 from mid-April to mid-August…… Lewis has done nothing to date. Wallner has been out maybe 40% of games. Correa did nothing until last 2 weeks. Paddack’s got his ERA down to around 4.80 after last night. His velocity was good but I think he could have been at a more “normal” 94mph and he’d have been fine - great command & movement of the ball around the zone!! Made a middle/middle mistake to Chapman but was fantastic the rest of the game - no walks was big!
