  1. Larnach (let’s erect the statue now) had a great night - really cool to see him look sharp! But how about Castro? Last 3 PA’s were HR - HR - key walk ………scored 3 runs! Played at least 2 positions……..if he heats up a bit with Wallner back, O will be looking good?
  2. Wallner would be nice, as we all know. He’s gotta be headed to Sacramento on Sunday, right? If Lewis could just be Ty France, a tick above average, they’ll be good!
  3. Matthews gave up 4 runs through 5 batters. Lopez got rocked the other day. It happens. No reason to think Sands is crumbling because he isn’t perfect . He got the first two guys & screwed up and walked a guy…….then he’s pitching to his college teammate (roommate?) and he missed with the “pitch in” just like Matthews and he paid the price. He’ll be OK, IMO.
  4. Watching from Cincinnati - Sands gives up home run with their closer up - TV off, too late here to hang any longer. SHOCKED this a.m. for sure! Was really down on Matthews after the 3 run HR - fastball in, but not “in”, to the leader in HR’s ……..first two guys had seeing eye hits, Polanco’s was 80mph off the bat and Crawford 57mph. Arozarena hit a chin high 98mph fastball, so that was just a chance HR with bad timing for Zebby. He really showed a bunch of character continuing to grind to just get through 5, but he confidently got through 7……….he may be OK! No idea how they got to 12 yet but that’s a big MO bump for the rest of the trip!
  5. 16 HR with 338 AB’s in ‘23 ……….. How does a guy hit 7 HR in 25 games in March/April of ‘24 and then hit 2-3 more over the next year……was Eddie using something to help his bat pop……not saying that’s the case but completely losing any hard contact, abruptly, is pretty odd with good health. As writer points out, no pop in St Paul either! Eddie is the poster boy for OBP being misleading when it comes to offensive value.
  6. Jax, 7 or 8 days ago was tied for most “holds” in baseball. His strikeout rate is 15K’s/9 innings. In his last 5 outings he’s thrown 5 innings - giving up 2 hits - zero walks - no runs - with 11 strikeouts. The guy is more than “past his early struggles”, he’s dominant! Opposing hitters have nearly no chance against the sweeper - his change-up moves too much to hit and they have to time it up. Thus, they all go up and sit fastball because that’s there only chance. If he’s dotting the outside corner or if it’s elevated, it too is nearly untouchable. He seems to have regained his command and is electric on the mound!
  7. I’m not going to use any emoji’s - hope that’s cool. Since STREAK ended Team is 4-5 and has scored 2 or less runs in all 5 losses. Can’t win if you can’t score!! Desparate for Buxton & Wallner - even Bader with better health this weekend - please. Watching Kiersey start in CF, & then ultimately in the box , reminds me of watching an extremely overmatched kid playing as a Sophomore in high school. It’s ugly! Larnach - Correa - Jeffers - France and then desperation, this is the line-up from this afternoon. Need to get healthy fast before they start giving back all the hard work done over 3 weeks!
  8. Agreed! Castro moves his role more toward OF as needed. Larnach/Bader/Buxton/Wallner & Castro on the grass. Even Clemens can play RF if needed. Cannot keep Kiersey instead of Bride - not with fragile Royce at 3B.
  9. I missed #1 ………#2 is embarrassing for the Team as well as Castro …….#3 was just nuts! The Tampa Announcing crew I was listening to on their broadcast BELABORED the fact that Stewart should have “just kept throwing high fastballs, he had him……..” the opposing broadcasting crew were amazed with how poorly the game was being called OR at least, what pitch Stewart went with on that 1-2 count after blowing the ball past the guy twice. Hard to figure out. …………….meaningless without runs again last night!
  10. Seems he went pretty deep Saturday (6 2/3) with only 8 base runners. I don’t think his velocity drop is effort related. I think it’s his physiology and delivery. His ERA since his first outing (last 10 starts) is around or under 2.50. Doesn’t seem like a guy one would trade with 2 more years of Team control?
  11. Pitchers are paid as well! BOTH of KC’s RBI were on 0-2 pitches …….. the broadcast, throughout the weekend, emphasized the propensity of the Royals hitters to be aggressive…….also, a lot of swing and miss. An 0-2 pitche should help set-up the 1-2 pitch. Both guys were trying to start in the zone and finish out of the zone, unfortunately, they finished in the zone and got hit. Physical mistakes happen. No easier to watch nor accept than a guy striking out on ball four, it happens - doesn’t mean everyone should think it’s OK.
  12. Can’t win them all - exactly. Nearly every loss can be second guessed, somewhere. 3 hits beats no one though & that’s a pretty tried & true premise. They NEED Wallner & Buxton sooner than later. Another contributor was mentioning Bride & Castro as better RBI options than Lewis at this point………I honestly don’t remember when either of those guys had a big RBI……..need better options throughout the line-up!
  13. Don’t disagree (especially in hindsight) that not advancing the runner is a mistake with an impotent line-up. Gotta score that run. However, at some point the Team has to try to WIN the game and burning up your bullpen further with 3 more in a row coming in Tampa is not a sound strategy either.
  14. I agree - hitters can hit good pitches…….but an 0-2 pitch shouldn’t catch 1/3 of the plate and above the knees. It was a change-up and the hitter was out front (fooled initially) but it was also a mistake from Ober.
  15. He wanted Kiersey’s defense in the game in the 7th and then wanted the option to hit Larnach wherever/whenever advantageous. Larnach being in the game didn’t hurt anything - close play at 2B - if he’s called safe and K.C. challenges he’s probably safe. Anyway, somebody has to get some hits to win a game - can’t, IMO, expect everything to fall your way in games where the Team gets 3-4 hits. Frustrating watching both runs the Royals scored to be driven in on 0-2 counts! Again, sports aren’t perfect and both Ober & Duran just made poor pitches in the zone when ahead, and they got hit hard. Tough loss with the big crowd there today!
  16. He’s 6-53 with one XBH ……he has decent speed on the bases and he’s average to better on defense……he can’t bunt to use his speed to his advantage in certain situations. Other than he’s had some success in St Paul……I don’t see the allure. Guys that are ready and that are going to be effective, show more than he has IMO. He’s not up because he forced his way on to the roster with performance, he’s on roster strictly due to injuries. He’s filled a role but there’s no inflating what he would/could be with more AB’s in my eyes.
  17. Killebrew also had zero expectations to stretch a double into a triple - ever. Harmon didn’t have 2 complete knee reconstructions prior to having a hamstring issue. I’m a fan of them both but need to take a level look at things. Guys not going full tilt is irritable ……. I have difficulty rationalizing this approach but a player realizing your his body can’t do that effectively is just smart from the player’s perspective. He’s got family, personal agents, coaches & trainers all telling him to dial it back to stay on the field……….it’s not just some selfish choice he’s made. He’s got leg problems - gotta adjust expectations at this point. Pretty sure he stretches regularly.
  18. All the “baseball guys” are stupid………should just hire random fans to develop and manage teams! He’s a skinny 22 year old with a handful of guys between him and any chance in the Twin’s rotation. He’ll be a starter until the middle of ‘26 at a minimum just due to his age…….no reason not to be. If they get desperate for a 40-man Roster spot they’ll trade him or waive w/o feeling bad since getting to that point would be from non- performance. The next 12 months should help sort what his best 3-4 pitches may be and which he can command. 6 pitch mix and walking too many guys sure seem to be connected. No revelation here, execution and command are his roadblock - not stamina.
  19. McCusker or Kiersey is going down Monday - maybe both as Team heads out of town and Buxton started swinging Wednesday and running bases Thursday (would be surprised if he didn’t head to Tampa)………Wallner back as well. I don’t think there’s a scenario where McCusker hits his way on to the Roster on Sunday. The lefty (Cameron) that started Friday was nasty - Bubic, today has been good as well. Would like McCusker over Kiersey in line-up…….maybe he’s the DH with Larnach on bench to pinch hit against RH relievers? Kiersey is on the roster because there are no other reasonable options in the organization. Rocco keeps him engaged when it’s advantageous to try and get a win.
  20. Gotta tip my hat to Lee…….bad mouthed him here this morning……he’s young and improving and need patience with him! Didn't think France would help much after his signing - thought Bader was a real stretch……everyone is making me look bad and I love it!!!
  21. Exactly!! He overpowers people in Minors but throwing a bunch of strikes, wherever they happen to go in the zone, doesn’t fly in the Show. He’s got the ability - he’ll get better. SWR had a great outing the other night. Festa came back from tired shoulder and looked good as well……maybe there’s a rotation with the 3 of them through St. Paul until somebody sticks?
  22. 3-5 on Saturday with the walk-off single…..didn’t tear the cover off but that’s fine…….go Brooks!!!
  23. Pablo was gritty last night - thank goodness his Change-Up was working well. I’m usually the first one to say how sports, baseball aren’t perfect but I couldn’t help but be pissed off at Lopez for giving up doubles ahead 1-2 in the count and then 0-2. Middle-middle fastballs!! He just didn’t have good command of the fastball…….until maybe the 5th. Nice win! BTW, Team is 15-2 over last 17 and they’ve climbed to first Wildcard Playoff level in the standings………..nobody says anything positive about Baldelli……..75% of the losses were due to him being clueless but the wins are all players stepping up……..not very logical. They started 3 RH hitting OF last night (WON), all ahead of McCusker in pecking order, but Rocco should have given McCusker, the 28 year old with 6 MLB at bats, “a chance”.????
  24. Gasper was rostered and then used out of absolute necessity……..McCusker is one of 13 guys out of absolute necessity. He wasn’t brought up to have a bunch or any regular playing time. He’s up in case they need someone due to other unforeseen circumstances. He will be back down any day as Wallner & Buxton may return as soon as tomorrow……almost certainly for the road trip. He got a quick taste and if he continues to produce in St. Paul he’s got a shot via injuries or in September.
