  1. I saw this a.m. that they are 15-2 since May 3 with a Team ERA of 2.53. That helps the offense appear better than it may be……I’ll take it though.
  2. Lee may have the softest swing I’ve ever seen……he looks like he’s 35 and out of shape, soft (he’s 25). He said himself a week or so ago that if he were to play SS everyday he’d need to be about 6lbs lighter. He needs to get his upper body more fit/stronger. Lewis may not be producing at the level we would like to expect - he’s battling ailments to get right (definitely getting old) but Lee looks TO ME like a guy that might be a back-up to CC & Luke Keaschall before the end of this season. Also, I don’t see Lee being some big threat as a PH either. He needs to get better!
  3. Relievers, on any club, seldom sit and go back out……especially a guy with a history of arm problems. Team is trying to use Stewart in key spots while minimizing his pitches so he gets through the season. Carrer high is 34 innings & that was 2017…….25 in 2019 & 27 in 2023. He’s pretty fragile!
  4. One guy (Larnach) has been around for 5-6 years and they’re not making any move to get him into a slot at 1B - not happening. McCusker has the body type but the whole organization is aware they don’t have an acceptable 1B option - he doesn’t seem likely either. Keaschall or Lewis both play in the dirt and they both hit………one of those two needs to be there in Soring if ‘26! ……Keaschall, maybe in August?
  5. With Buxton & Wallner, both a few days away, who gets sent down or released? #10-#13 Kiersey - Clemens - McCusker - Bride I can’t imagine Clemens or Bride getting DFA’d at this point. OF: Larnach - Bader - Buxton - Castro - Wallner going forward, with guys having options going to St Paul. #10-#13 Castro - Larnach - Clemens - Bride …….this is a big step up from where Team has been operating lately!
  6. IMO, our best Defensive Line-up (with offense in mind) this weekend: Lewis at 3B - CC - Lee - France ….. Vazquez - Jeffers at DH……Larnach - Bader - Castro Bench … Clemens - Bride - Kiersey - McCusker Seems that if Wallner hit 2 HR on Thursday night he’ll be on Roster by Monday……Buxton “hitting on Wednesday”, also back by Monday. May see either of these guys for the Sunday afternoon game as well!
  7. I get they have had some success but Clemens/Bride on the right side of the infield to start a game (both DFA’d this year) & our 27th add to roster being Gasper (a guy many called for to be DFA’d) ……..not to mention Fitzgerald & McCusker & Kiersey as part of 13 guys…….it’s going to be challenging to get many runs! I had previously touted Clemens success in game 1 & game 2 with his XBH’s but after seeing replays this morning, he hit what Provus termed, “….,a looper to center” that got played into a triple and the double to end the game had eyes - that’s baseball - but he’s not punishing the ball into the gaps which was essentially my first assessment of his day. A lot to be said for making contact!
  8. I get the upset/confusion over Manzardo being out at 2B but not eliminating Santana, now on base, as Ryan’s runner. My only explanation would be that, while Ryan didn’t face Santana and had nothing to do with him reaching base, he also had nothing to do with Manzardo being out at 2B. It’s the “fielder’s choice” that makes Santana his responsibility. If the guy goes to 1B and gets Duran an out, then Manzardo is at 2B. The fielder determines where to go to get the out so since Duran got an out, he’s not responsible for where the other runners ended up after the play - Duran didn’t allow an “additional” runner.
  9. Clemens keeps showing gap power - 2 XBH in first game & 1 XBH in 2nd game. 2B/1B/RF flexibility ……. he looks to contribute going forward. The PEN I’m always backing had a rough day……Duran was pretty blah, only had 2 pitches today and that was a problem in the cold conditions……..reduced velocity on other two oitches. Sands - HR ……Varland - walking a run in ……Funderburk - roughed up………another day off tomorrow to get heads right! Paddack got through 5 unscathed - couple LOUD outs to the OF to end innings. He’s getting outs? Gotta have more than 3 hits to be competitive in the 2nd game. Hoping for a 1-0 shutout is nearly a fantasy thought these days.
  10. Buxton - Bader - Larnach - Wallner Lewis - CC - Lee - France …. Vazquez - Jeffers Castro - Clemens - Kiersey (ultimately Keaschall) My assumption of roster evolution with guys coming back from injuries.
  11. Sands will have some bad outings at some point - Jax had 3-4 brutal appearances and will probably have a couple more over the next 4 months - Alcala lacks command (!) - Varland gives up too many HR’s - Stewart & Topa staying healthy isn’t a guarantee………..the bullpen will always have question marks & with some ups & downs. So far, they are #1 in the game on May 21st……I’m good with them! Funderburk works for 3-4 weeks until Coulombe can go again. There’s no “perfect” on the roster, particularly when dealing with injuries. Can’t imagine anyone is fretting over Michael Tonkin’s return date. Keaschall is out until after the All-Star Break, at a minimum, is the impression I had when he got his cast on originally……..right? Hoping for some good news on Buxton/Correa on broadcast today! Wallner back by June 1-5 worst case. Rain & rest has to be helping Castro & Bader feel a bit better!! Pen is getting a nice break as well!
  12. Later tonight looks possible to get in 6 innings at 8:00 or later? ……….Maybe Wednesday for 1 game? ……..I thought they may play 2 on Thursday starting at Noon but Guardians are scheduled in Detroit Thursday - bummer!!
  13. Amen! “……he needs to work on his pitch mix….his plan……..” How about the pitching coach/veteran catcher telling the kid he’s going to throw what is called and then direct him with a better game plan & LOCATION expectation from the catcher. Those exchanges can’t be very difficult to have through the handful of days between starts! He is the “ultimate strike thrower” in the minors. That’s because his stuff overpowers minor league hitters - it’s easier to live in the zone with fastballs and challenge nearly everyone. He walked as many guys in one inning as Lopez & Ryan walked in 13 combined innings in the previous 2 starts. He’ll get better, but the 3 walks in an inning when the guy on the hill has good stuff, it’s just so frustrating to watch.
  14. How about having some level of expectation from Alcala? He’s only “used properly” in the 40% of the games he’s in (when he’s successful) because his control sucks. Plain and simple, his command is not what it needs to be! At least half or more of his appearances he gets in trouble with walks - it’s OLD! He’s got a nice pitch mix and very good stuff but he pitches like he’s on amphetamines……..hard to watch.
  15. The #1 ranked High School QB in the country, standing 6’5” didn’t get lit up too often by Cretin’s foes.
  16. Agreed. I do think, if healthy, Miranda has a better chance as a 1B/3B/DH contact hitter. Eddie has been down for some time with pretty brief high points. I was sold on Bride as the eventual 13th guy until Keaschall would/could come back in a couple more months - Clemens though, has shown some Pop and has better position versatility!
  17. STAFF ERA is 3.15 PEN individuals: Coulombe - 0.00 ………Duran - 0.89 ……..Topa - 1.84 ……..Sands - 2.55 ……..Varland 2.95 Jax - Stewart - Alcala are the 3 guys that haven’t been consistently good & all 3 are trending positively!! Pretty sure the current FO put this staff together………….. Good luck to Zebby today!
  18. Does anyone even think about Eddie or Jose Miranda at this point? Potentially, (a stretch) one of those two guys are right by mid-August and able to contribute, if needed.
  19. Was at a wedding reception and checked game score - box score had 6 consecutive 1’s through 6 innings. Bizarre! Lopez seemed to have a great outing & Topa worked out of a jam. Status quo, day 13. Freddie Perralta is going to be a little bigger challenge than most pitchers faced recently! Pen is rested again so we need Zebby to give the rest of the guys a. chance.
  20. Normal Line-up heading into ‘25 v. RH arm: Lewis - CC - Lee - France Larnach - Buxton - Wallner Jeffers If Byron can go they’ll have 7 of 9 in the field including Pablo on the hill……..Bader has to be close or they’d put him on IL for a fresh body the next week. Anyone hear of a Wallner update? Clemens in RF & Bride at 2B today I guess. DH?
  21. Larnach - Buxton/Kiersey - Clemens in OF Lewis - Lee - Fitzgerald/Bride - France Jeffers ……….Vazquey may be the DH? Seems Buxton needs to clear “protocol” 1st. We’ll see????
  22. Jax seems to be giving up decent contact in most of the games he takes the mound - as you stated, then he strikes a couple guys out. Per the article, he’s tied for “holds” in baseball even with a few pretty uneven performances. That’s tough to beat. I think he’s leveling out but I think it would help his psyche if he could go one - two - three in an outing!
  23. Clemens - Kiersey - France all contributing - Vazquez with a double (he’s coming around, nearing .200 BA)……….scraping out a few runs and pitching is just fantastic! Guys get into jams occasionally and they don’t blink - just grind through innings and escape with ZERO’s on the scoreboard. Lopez Saturday and a fresh face on the hill Sunday. Keep it rolling in Milwaukee!
  24. To me, Items 1-4 are all covered by better COMMAND of his pitches……..both in the zone and just off the plate. Personally, I don’t know what the stats are, but his curveball should be thrown about 15-20% of the time ………. I’m assuming it is at 10% or less now. It’s a completely different look than his other pitches and he can throw it for strikes. Speed declines to around 76Mph so it’s tough to time up for a hitter and it has a nice 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock break. His slider is the key to him getting outs and more swing and miss. He’ll be OK - 82 innings to start last year at 3.51 ERA is too much of a sample to be as bad as he’s been at times in ‘25.
