Logic would tell one that nobody knows who is getting to, nor winning the World Series year to year…………the one sure bet is if a Team doesn’t make the Playoffs they probably aren’t winning the Series.

Maybe A-Rod & Bloomberg & Company will buy the Twins!?! I really don’t think there’s a spending plan out more than 3-4 years, regarding the “right sizing” payroll. If he keeps going anywhere near his season totals this year - not signing him (trying) - would be like letting Puckett walk.

Gotta let the Season play out & see how the health looks. ACL’s are freak accidents most of the time - the Quad injury scares me unless it’s linked to the knee issues and extended down times. Have to believe he’s strong and in great shape…..,,so let’s see in November. $220/10 years seems like a real number with his history………without the injuries he’s in the Bobby Witt range at $25M/yr for 11 years. He may play it out - he think’s he’s bullet proof regardless of his history………,,, Buxton & Correa are gone after 2028……4 more seasons. Can’t choke the budget in short-term but they could pay him (as suggested above) around $45M over first 4 years and then $30M/year for 6 years. Freeing Farmer - Thielbar - Margot - Santana - Kepler frees up at least $30M in ‘25. To entertain this, Team has to see him finish the season unscathed & productive.

Seems they won’t DFA him until around the deadline, unless he takes a dive with the bat. I think he & Thielbar are hanging as Veteran Presence …….being good guys and obviously, depth. Even with CC not going on IL, I’d like to see Lee up for at least a handful of games ……Martin optioned in short-term. I live in Cincinnati and think a lot of Farmer - knew he would improve but his level isn’t where the rest of the Team is at……,I agree, there’s a lack of pop in the bat. Saw 3-4 really well hit balls get caught on track or in gap late May/early June, and was encouraged - haven’t seen for 2-3 weeks. I saw his first AB Thursday v. Montgomery, a 3 pitch K. Looked weak on first swing - took a good pitch - flailed at strike 3 change-up ……frankly, anybody with a pulse knew Montgomery would throw a change-up low, out of the zone…….pitch landed in front of the plate. Not looking like a MLB hitter.

All the above……………With Santana & Castro & Miranda - Margot carrying the offense!! Jeffers & Kepler & Larnach on the periphery……LONG line-up! Hoping 3-4 guys at a time can stay hot……that’s realistic with this many guys that can hit.

It wasn’t a team choice last year …..he was in IL half the season and unable to play CF the balance of time. The buzz in Spring Training was that it was inevitable for him to get to CF & then he never got well. Crossing fingers for health - he’s fun to watch!!

Brooks Lee Needs to be in Minneapolis: NOW
JD-TWINS replied to bighat's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Why do we gotta know “immediately”? We have gone 11-5 over last 16 games……2 games after your comment. Larnach is hitting RH pitching & Margot’s hitting LH pitching for LF. Castro hitting everyone at 2B. Royce & Miranda are OK at 3B & DH. If he goes crazy, & he’s getting there, in St. Paul - he pushes himself on to the 26-man in July. -
Yep - ROY, lofty thoughts! Hope he’s the Twin’s ROY or the A.L. Central ROY…..that would be great at age 23.

2:40 CST on Thursday…..am hoping Team can ride him for 3 starts to get them to the Break!! Should be fun to watch. Paddack back after 3 full weeks off & a couple refresher sessions to follow…..back July 24th at home. Maybe Festa can fill in for SWR for a start after the Break to give Simeon a little rest as well?
-
Not a popular thought but if Santana continues to hit through the year…..you’re right, he may be worth another shot at a similar price to this year? He’d be more RH specific than this year……… he would seem to be redundant with Miranda though. Wallner - Kirilloff - Julien ……I’d expect at least two of them to remain in organization if not all 3. Kirilloff is out of options & is becoming a trade piece as time goes by………going to have to package him with another couple guys to get any type of positive return. Just to get people thinking, how about Julien - Kirilloff - Headrick - Gonzales to Toronto for Berrios at the Deadline?? ’25 rotation: Lopez - Berrios - Ryan - Ober - SWR …..,, with BOTH Paddack & Varland in the Pen from the jump…..Stewart, Jax, Topa, Okert, Funderburk, Alcala Kepler & Santana & Margot & Thielbar & Farmer (gone) create some serious $$ to spend on an effective & fairly durable starter in Berrios……signed through ‘28 with player options after ‘26.

Agreed, the few vets that can be moved on from in ‘25, this action will be pursued. Kepler - Farmer - Margot - Santana - Thielbar….about $32M in salary at this year’s rates………if he remains stable & fairly productive, it’s possible to re-sign Kepler for 2 yrs. at maybe $13M per year? You have 11 guys in the mix above for 13 spots. Gotta believe that there’s no realistic way out of the Vazquez contract/situation……$10M sunk through ‘25. Therefore, I don’t see Camargo on the roster unless there’s an injury, through next season. Vazquez/Jeffers Miranda/Kirilloff Lee/Julien/Correa/Lewis (tough to fit Lee & Julien on same roster as both excel batting LH) Larnach - Martin - Buxton - Castro - Wallner As you stated, DH by committee. That’s roughly $77-$80M in salaries. Buxton/Vazquez/Correa make up around $60M. Wallner - Kirilloff - Julien all seem to be the most vulnerable for a trade or being at AAA in ‘25…….hoping these guys (at least 2 of them) turn it around next month!!!

I think Lee displaces Martin & then he’s in front of Kiersey again…..

He has not mastered the strikeout issue & it is a pretty good assumption that this issue is what’s keeping him from being in LF for big club. He gets to 25% for a handful of games & then 35% for 8 games. He’s always going to K as a power hitter but he needs to trim them some. I think it’s Lee for Martin - just because it’s “too early” to DFA a guy who is trending up for over a month (Farmer). The hesitation probably stems from Martin not playing poorly - he looks average or better at a minimum. Camargo is probably just depth for the remainder of the Vazquez deal, through ‘25.

Sounds like Topa and Stewart are both at least throwing a bit again. Getting one or both of these guys back by August 1 would be a real boost! Who gets removed from 26-man (what pitcher) in the next few days to make room for the spot starter???? …..Could Thielbar get DFA’d? ……he certainly isn’t high on the usage list lately

Completely agree - very unfortunate for Canterino - but bringing him up as having any kind of future at all, let alone August (??), it seems we are discussing a fictional character. I don’t think he’s put together a month w/o injury or at least that’s how it feels. Am certainly not expecting him to contribute at all this year.

Final: Diamondbacks 5, Twins 4: Comeback Thwarted Late
JD-TWINS replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Who threw the ball off line to first allowing 3rd run to score last week? (Lewis) …..should have been 3rd out in inning. Who got thrown out at 3B when tagging up at 2B in the 10th inning? (Lewis) Who walked #9 hitter with 2 outs last night? (Alcala) Off top of my head, these 3 of last 4 one run losses that have zero to do with the Manager.- 42 replies

Don’t get the criticism for bringing in Alcala? That situation is him doing his job. Bullpen was completely rested going into the game. He walked a guy (#9 hitter) after getting first 2 outs……gave up an ugly run…….not the Manager’s fault. Jeffers has been played less (no DH role) for 3-4 weeks because he was in an absolute free fall. He hit the ball great last night and has shown signs of coming around lately……no reason to re-write how poorly he hit for a month. I think last night was his first, maybe 2nd HR of June? Glad to see Buxton & Jeffers pick up the back end of the line-up!- 42 replies

How is the guy leading the Game in hits not able to hit? Julien - Wallner - Kirilloff are the guys that can’t hit.

We have found out that Lee has a long term back issue and Julien forgot how to conduct himself in the batter’s box………Castro can play LF 70% of the time if he needs a spot w/o disrupting anything. Gonzales is a prospect that may help the Team in 2028…..moving a prospect arm (AA or A) and/or a guy that has experience in the Show to get an offensive threat seems like a logical move. Boushley - Winder - Headrick are all options, that as individuals, don’t sting the organization at all with their absence. How excited would Correa - Miranda - Buxton - Kepler be knowing Arraez was along side them down the stretch? He’s got 104 hits (most AB’s too) …..it’s like adding Volpe of Yankees into the line-up (not the speed nor defense) - Arraez hits 50 points higher ….. his OBP is 20 points higher …..OPS+ is 4 points higher. There’s no terrible downside.
