  1. I hear you on the difficulty of managing this during a run to the playoffs. Although it is also not ideal to have people playing who bat 175 and strikeout half the time. My guess is that Sonny also prefers not to lose 3 to 1 when he is on the mound. Julien has had a good bat. I agree that if Kirillof looks like a September return the move probably isn't worth it. I wonder, for next year, if he could play left field.
  2. Max is solid veteran depth, who can be an asset in the field and at the plate. He has not been a star since his big year, but he has had solid seasons. He is affordable. Why not pick up the final year. Probably wouldn't consider extending him beyond his age 31 season though. Play Wallner in left and Larnach Should get opportunity as inevitable injuries occur.
  3. What a fun weekend! Twins dominate with great performances from our catcher and the hometown kid. It really couldn't have gone any better.
  4. lol. I think you have totally missed on my point. It is possible and okay to be pleased with some things and disappointed with others. This is called nuance. I agree, the starting pitching is good. Duran is good. Many other decisions have been good. The draft decisions have been solid to good overall. Last year's deadline moves and offseason acquisitions have been not so good. I am not outraged, just expressing a thought. Seems that today people have lost sight of the fact that there is a middle ground between enthusiastic support and being enraged. I would argue Twinsdaily strikes a pretty good balance within that middle ground.
  5. This rotation is more deep than top heavy. The quality of your top two or three is what matters come postseason. Most other teams in contention have added quality arms fo the stretch run (team stats acquired earlier in the season aren't that relevant). Ober is likely to tire. Ryan is....well we have seen how things have unfolded. The remaining three starters are still solid. They will have to be incredible give the lineups they will face, the lack of depth in our pen, and our lack of offensive firepower.
  6. I don't disagree that fans can and should enjoy the postseason of it happens, regardless of how we get in. I just don't agree that fans must be happy with the decisions the front office is making because we are hovering around .500 baseball.
  7. Given the team's record, I just would have left it at "Amazing that we are cheering for a first place team". Do you really think that "virtually every op-ed is negative"? In the past two weeks Twinsdaily writers have written pieces highlighting breakouts from Pagan, Balazovic, and Jeffers. The Twinsdaily writers are plenty positive. I'm sorry that the front office keeps making bad choices. Look at the decisions from the deadline last year to now. What are writers supposed to do?
  8. So many guys striking out at around a 30% clip. I think I am just burned out on strikeouts. Makes me really appreciate Lee's approach to hitting. Will be interesting to see if they move Severino and Lee up before the end of the season.
  9. It would be silly to neither buy or sell. I could defend upgrading the roster and holding on to starting pitching to make a run. I personally preferred to sell starting pitching and close out the year with Varland and Kuechal. Nope, we are going to move forward doing nothing. Maybe another players only reset lol. I just hope enough of the roster gets healthy at the same time and Wallner hits enough to force leadership to dfa Gallo. I really hate watching him play.
  10. If the players are flash-in-the-pan types, old, just not that good, or all of the above, why trade for them? Would they make the team contenders? Why not turn to in-house options and cross your fingers they play better?
  11. Article starts: We can't trade away starting pitchers because we worked so hard to acquire them. Contradictory statement: We shouldn't trade our starters because the return won't be good because they will be gone at the end of the season. THIS IS NOT HARD Team is not good. Trade players on expiring deals if the return is attractive. Don't just give them away. I have zero hope for this team making a postseason run. I think their odds of winning a WS are about the same with or without these two starters (under 2 percent).
  12. Yea, nobody thought that RP thrown into the Baltimore trade mattered. Is a "Fulmer type" player really going to move the needle for this team? The KC bullpen arm throwing 100 and succeeding in the MLB with years of control would take more than SGL to coax the Royals to trade. If Pham or Duvall can be had for a SGL like return go ahead and do it. In a sellers market I think both would require more. The article is titled "3 Trades the Twins Must Make Today". You really think we can get all that done and not give up meaningful prospect capital? You're dilusional.
  13. Yes! Maybe we could fill the RH bat hole on the roster the way the Reds did by acquiring Steer last year (hitting something like 310-370-580 vs LH this year). We are clearly going nowhere this season.
  14. It is ridiculous to want to trade away good controllable talent (these trades are only made by parting with players useful to other organizations). This team is screaming out that it isn't going anywhere. We did this last year when it had been clear for months that we just weren't very good. What did we give up? 2 major league ready right handed bats. Spencer Steer is hitting 313-373-586 vs. LH pitching this year (boy would that be nice!!). We also gave up one of the best relief pitchers in the American League. We should be supplementing the system right now, not gutting the system to add fringe pieces to this team. We are not a good team.
  15. I agree, and don't fault the front office for roster construction (although I really disagree with the Gallo signing and wish we had invested that money in the bullpen lotto). It is a talented roster. The problem is that the talented players are consistently hurt/ridiculously underperforming. Some of that is on the front office for stacking the roster full of injury question marks. I hope the front office feels secure enough in their job to take a compelling offer if it comes their way for Maeda and Gray. They have tethered themselves to some bad contracts and traded away a good deal of talent for effectively no return these last two years. They need to cash in on this opportunity if it presents itself. This team is clearly going nowhere.
  16. Clearly someone drank Jobu's rum before the start of the season.
  17. For all Buck's struggles thus far, all Twins fans know how hot he can get. Imagine if he got on a heater in the postseason. He could carry the Twins through a couple series. How much fun would that be!! If he gets hot in the postseason, nobody will care what his regular season looked like.
  18. True, I guess Morneau would be a better example.
  19. The same way Joe Mauer did. Play really well. Its more likely that one (or numerous) players are hurt anyway.
  20. I would rotate Julien and Polanco between DH, 2nd base and 1st Base. I would split Kirillof's time between outfield and first. Royce and Correa are locked in at 3rd and short. Next year I have Miranda at AAA proving health and playing first base and corner outfield. He is no good at third anyway. If a good trade offer is made for Polo take it. If not, don't give him away. Kirillof, Royce, and Correa are not exactly iron men. Lee ends the year at AAA and starts next year there. If he forces his way up and everyone is healthy, what a great problem to have! DH needs to be used to get guys who hit well in the lineup. Whoever that may be.
  21. The guy hasn't been able to play in 2+ years. He is really in his first sustained exposure to MLB. He is succeeding. He is cheap. I think he could improve dramatically with a run of sustained health and exposure to the league. I wouldn't take the deal. I would offer Larnach, Wallner, and Raya to start negotiating.
  22. Keirsey plays elite center field, can run, and the bat is coming around. Do we have a center field prospect in St. Paul I don't know about? We have an aging vet who is marginal at the MLB level. If Keirsey could break through he could be an important player for 3-4 years.
  23. Because the front office has said that he is incapable of playing outfield, and that rest is unlikely to change that. They are telling the fan base point blank that he is unlikely to heal with rest. It happens, think Brandon Roy with the Blazers in the NBA.
