One factor not considered here is that the pohlads are looking to sell the twins so they need a good competitive team to keep the teams value and appeal up for potential buyers they could theoretically raise payroll a little avoiding trading these 2 pitchers to improve the on field product and increase the teams appeal to buyers

My thinking is tender all but look into trading kirilloff, acala, Castro, tanking, Jax and larnach

Why the Twins Might Need to Trade Carlos Correa
Jim wyllie replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand why trading him might make sense, however with injuries the last 2 seasons he is likely currently untraceable til he has at least 1 full healthy good season -
I say trade Castro and kirilloff if possible. Then keep the rest, and maybe listen to offers for larnach too.

Do Minnesotans Love the Twins?
Jim wyllie replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The key problem is that the pohlads are still running the team like they did in the metrodome. They should be open to spending more, although I will say that isn't getting any easier as players are getting more and more overpaid and mlb is the only major tean sports league in North without a salary cap, making it easier for big markets to outstanding smaller markets to the point the some teams pay more to 26 mlb players than nfl teams pay 53 players, which is mathematically illogical. Yes minnesotans love the twins but the pohlads and league wide lack of a salary cap and possibly a salary floor for teams make it difficult for the fans -
I agree that it's time to move on from Rocco, he has been a solid manager but doesn't use his baseball instincts. He only follows analytics which is a path to failure. Yes ownership needs to put more onto the roster financially but it's time to move on from baldelli. I would also state what hurts teams like the twins even more is that despite the nfl, nba, wnba, and NHL having a hard salary cap, base all does not and most definitely needs one to put player salaries under control. It would be as simple as putting a cap 190 and a floor at 120. Especially considering there are mlb teams paying 26 players more than nfl teams pay 53 players

Priblem is he's never stayed healthy enough to stay out in centerfold. Martin was solid in limited time in center this season use him as a stop gap. Buxton can't stay healthy and as evidenced in the 10th inning Wednesday in Cleveland he lacks both patience at the plate and veteran understanding to handle plate appearances well. As even the commentator I believe it was moreau recognized the pitcher at the time wasn't throwing strikes and a hitter just had to let the pitcher pitch into a hitters count. Yet buxton swung at to pitches well out of tge zone and flew out to end the innings leaving the bases loaded. Not the approach expected from someone who is considered the face of the franchise. It's time to move on from Buxton

I think they need to move him if just to prevent more injuries my thought is Lewis at first, Lee at third, Martin at second, and Correa at shortstop. Miranda can dh and cover the corners to rest Lee and lewis. Perhaps long term keaschall could play second base. I do think it would serve the twins better to make this setup happen. It would be beneficial defensively and health wise. Lewis has already dealt with significant injuries and would line up well at first

I agree the pohlads need to increase the teams payroll to give the fans a chance to have a championship team. However, there were really no true impact players who could have given the team a significant boost available, and teams were often asking too much for the players available. Yes I would love to see them acquire better players, but I think they made the best choices they could. A rental player isn't worth selling the farm. This off season they need to do 2 significant things. First get a good tv deal settled and second parlay that into impact acquisition for the roster.

Considering how other relievers the twins have recently acquired mid-season the past few years have with tge exception of Romo gone bust. I'm not kean on Bernardino for 2 reasons, first his first is 1 run higher than his era which tells me his era is going up meaning a rough stretch might be ahead for him. Secondly not having allowed a home run yet scares me as the law of averages states that will eventually change and could mean an eventual significant 2nd half of the season regression

I think bull pen help and depth is key and agree paddock is the odd man out if we aquire a starter, he could even be included in a trade to a third team along with farmer to offset added payroll from acquiring pitching

Minnesota Could Save a Blue Jays Starter
Jim wyllie replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree kikuchi makes the most sense and it gives them the flexibility in the off season to extend him or look into lezardo if he's available in a trade- 110 replies

Its crazy the royals have more all stars at least 3 this year and it always seems at least one team with a worse record than the twins will have more all stars, the twins never get enough respect, too often it's so bad all star selection are a joke

How come u didn't mention the trade that sent Nelson Cruz to Tampa for joe Ryan. That was definitely a good trade and was a deadline deal

With his injury history the seeds are already being planted for lewis to move to first base where his defense will be great and lee will stick at third and as for second base austin martin with miranda dhing and giving rest at 1st and 3rd. Julien is a ?mark right now and wallner might be traded

This is Why Byron Buxton is Worth His Contract
Jim wyllie replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I will never doubt his talent or humility, however I still say if he stays healthy and has a strong year it might be best trade him while the value is up. They already have martin and Castro who can cover cf til Rodriguez is ready possibly by next seasons end. It also makes a lewis extension easier -
I definitely say no to trading Kepler. I would generally stand pat at the deadline unless a deal comes along that they can't pass up to improve the team. They have alot of peaces already and depth. They aren't going to be a post season juggernaut unless they get on a serious roll at the end. Also in the AL I don't truly think any team is a true juggernaut right now. And traditionally most world series winners haven't needed to make big moves at the deadline.
-
I would definitely extend lewis, however the smart thing they can do to offset cost is if Buxton stays healthy and that's a big if, for the remainder of the season and has at least a solid to good season, trade him for prospects. Rodriguez is doing well in the minors abd martin and Castro are able to play center at the major league level. So Buxton could be expendable while his value is up and he's on a reasonable contract other teams would take on easily.

Byron Buxton Joins an Elite Group in Twins History
Jim wyllie replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton is a solid player he can be very good when healthy, but I but no stock in war, fair and most sabermetrics, as they r not as accurate as most think, they r overvalued and the value of war in particular is as inexact a science as it comes as each teams payroll is different and changes every year as to win loss records making it hard to put value on when 2 teams can win 100 games and be at opposite ends of the payroll spectrum. Heck how are metrics accurate when it's thought a player with a batting average in the 240s or 250s is and all star.- 10 replies

Three Silver Linings to Edouard Julien's Demotion
Jim wyllie replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The other thing to consider is brooks lee is now healthy and if he out plays Julien then lee would likely get the call up as they are both infielders. -
Why do the Minnesota Twins Hate Jorge Alcalá?
Jim wyllie replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The problem is baldelli needs to have the starters throw more innings, it's constantly 3 or more bullpen innings every game, the bullpen is getting over used, but not necessarily over worked. And baldelli doesn't want to admit it.- 47 replies
