  1. If we are at 12 hitters right now (with Lewis and Sano injured). When Lewis returns, he at least goes down for a rehab assignment. Do they want to use up another trip down to the minors after that? If not, any bad streak by Gordon will put him at risk as Lewis plays everywhere that Gordon does. I say when Sano gets healthy and gets done with a rehab assignment, it would be between him and Garlick (but Garlick's one great tool, hitting lh pitchers well, would be hard to get rid of on a team that doesn't hit lefties well). I say Sano will get one more shot. I've got Ryan, Ober, Smeltzer, Archer, Gray and Bundy in a 6 man rotation as I think Gray will be back soon. Winder will go down for a rehab assignment. Should come back up but will probably stay in St. Paul until a couple guys get injured or Bundy has too many bad outings. Duran, Jax, Smith, Duffey, Pagan, Theilbar will be there IMO. I'm expecting Coulumbe out for awhile. I'm adding Alcala soon and Moran to have two lefties. If Megill doesn't have options, we would probably keep him for now and not Moran.
  2. Is Sabato really Sano Jr? He starts out cold as ice. Then, he has a very hot stretch when it warms up.
  3. I'm not sure Theilbar and Megill would be that big of a loss. Moran and Coulumbe should be able to handle the lefties and Megill should be replaceable. And many on here would rather not have Pagan.
  4. Polanco didn't seem too interested in playing this game. His defense cost us at least two runs. If he's injured, let's get Steer up here and put him on the IL. Steer is murdering AAA pitching again tonight. (edit - I guess he's also killing our own baserunners with his line drives!)
  5. I'm betting the original plan was to have Lewis at SS today.
  6. Wow, Derek Rodriguez and Chi Chi Gonzalez almost surely get called up then. Start out poorly in one game and you tell them to take one for the team. Ian Hamilton has to be one to come up as he continues to pitch great. I would call up Canterino. Otherwise, take your pick from AAA, maybe Cano.
  7. A couple more plays like that in the OF and he won't have a career in the IF either..................
  8. Not sure playing one game in CF in St. Paul prepared an overzealous rookie to play there for the Twins. Just like Buxton, he's great. He made the catch. But now he is out for an extended time. Will the Twins just decide to play him at SS in St. Paul the rest of the year as he will be the Twins SS next year IMO?
  9. If the Twins don't inform the public before the series, as far as pitchers go, watch who isn't pitching in the minors this week. Does Canterino suddenly not pitch. Does Ian Hamilton not pitch on Wednesday and Thursday. The free call-ups could be interesting if they happen in certain positions. Also, if a Twins pitcher isn't making the trip to Toronto, the Twins will be using their pitches up in the last Detroit game.
  10. Can any of the Twins minor league catchers both play great defense and hit half-way decent? Seems like the ones that are hitting real good like Isola and Camargo can't seem to throw anyone out. Now that is just my impression. I can't find their actual stats and someone correct me if I'm wrong. Then we have the Godoy types who are great on defense but can't hit a lick. Jeffers will lose value in the near future when robo umps call balls and strikes as I think he is the best at framing pitches.
  11. Why bring up Minaya to add to the 40 man instead of Ian Hamilton? Maybe based on last year because the pitching performance this year would sure point to Hamilton being the guy. Or maybe this is a 40 man issue and the Twins plan to DFA Minaya but don't want to do that to Hamilton because someone would take him when they DFA him.
  12. Yes, call Canterino up to the Twins. Start him in middle relief and have him throw about 50-60 pitches. If he does well, keep moving him to higher leverage situations, the same way the Twins did with Duran early on. I think the Twins have a specific innings limit for Canterino for this year. They should be able to have him hit that number of innings in the bullpen. He can still go back to being a starter next year.
  13. QUIT playing Austin Martin at SS. 2 more errors tonight, one in each of the first two innings and they cost Canterino 20 or so pitches in those innings. Great hitting night for Martin though. Cavaco continues his one week streak of great hitting.
  14. Yes, Ober's not throwing more than 80 pitches.
  15. I really think the Twins have the other top relief pitcher in the minors, Canterino. Duran was a starter in the minors and now is doing well as a reliever. Plus, we want to be very restrictive on their innings anyway. Use them on alternate days with an extra day for a blowout at some point. Have them pitch the 8th and 9th sometimes like Duran is. Coulombe and eventually Alcala will help and then one or two trades at the deadline. I actually would like to give Cano some time to adjust to MLB hitters. He seems to have the fastball. If the Twins bats would just get going, someone like Cano could get that time. The Twins hitters are currently the ones putting stress on the bullpen to be perfect every night.
  16. Kirilloff is hot and now is getting extra base hits. Twins need more of that. Let's call him up and give Miranda more time with the Saints. I would call up Lewis as well and that would mean the end for Gordon (unless Polanco's ankle is bad enough for the IL, which it doesn't sound like it is). Lewis looked good on the highlights defensively playing 3B tonight. 2022 MLB requires more speed and Lewis would give that at 3B (love Gio's D though). Sorry Saints, just when you start looking good, we want to poach your best guys. Wichita is missing their Steer, but that "wind surge" blew him up to the Saints. And he is playing great there. Gipson-Long and Haijar dominating their leagues.
  17. Yes.
  18. I still think it's too early to count Cavaco as a bust. He is still like the 5th youngest on his team I believe. He started out okay this year, went on the IL and came back with a month-long slump. But look at his recent run - 10 for 24 in his last 6 games. But he has to keep improving this year. No more, "he's young" excuses at the end of the year.
  19. Barring an injury to Polanco, Steer's path to the Twins in 2022 is not clear. 3B does not seem like an option as Miranda, Lewis and Urshela are all ahead of him at the moment. But 2023 is another story.
  20. The first of many reinforcements to come has arrived in St. Paul. Spencer Steer has been called up from Wichita.
  21. When Lewis comes back up, what is Gordon's worth? 3rd CF, 3rd SS, etc. Unless there are injuries, Lewis coming up may be the end of Gordon's Twins days unless nobody claims him.
  22. Lewis has played 4 games after being sent down - SS, 3B, LF and SS. Interestingly, he is 6 for 8 while playing SS and 0 for 9 with 5 strikeouts in the other two positions. With Vallimont DFA'ed, Strotman can't be far behind when we need to DFA someone. He hardly ever pitches a clean inning when I look at the box scores.
