  1. 1. Duran 2. Pagan - he's got the pitches and just has to perform consistently 3. Thielbar - for situations that include lh's 4. Jax - his pitching tells another story this year. I just can't get last year out of my mind. It appears that I may be wrong about him. Hope so. 5. Canterino - not sure what his injury is. If it's not much, his stuff is good enough for him to be another Duran this year if his arm allows. Yes, we will trade for 2 relief pitchers at the trade deadline.
  2. Amazing what a difference their record has been pre-Steer and post-Steer. I don't know the exact #'s but I don't think they had a losing week pre-Steer (except week #1) nor have they had a winning week post-Steer.
  3. For a top prospect, we are just sitting Miranda on the bench a lot. When Polanco comes back, he is almost certainly headed down. That may be great for him to get AB's every day again and show what he learned in his first stint in MLB.
  4. Strotman and Henriquez - okay, okay, I'm just cleaning up the 40 man and we may only get a couple rosin bags in return. I think the Twins have a glut of good players who will need to be put on the 40 man or be subject to being plucked by another team this winter. Figure out who we aren't adding to the 40 man and some other teams may be glad to have them in return for a relief pitcher who could help us this year. Also, we seem to have too many quality players who play 2B and/or 3B (Martin, Julien, Javier, CES, Steer, Miranda not to mention Beckham and Helman) while still having Arraez and Polanco. This is where I think another team may be willing to give up a more quality RP for one of these guys.
  5. Nice article but Travis Adams for pitcher of the day? Isn't he still with Fort Myers who got rained out again. CES walk off homer, #16, should just be walk down to the Wichita Wind Surge this weekend. Not sure on his glove but the bat has played well everywhere. Not much more Beckham can do in St. Paul but there isn't really room on the Twins. But wait a few days, we may add people to our 26 we put on the IL already this year, a league "best." I missed SWR going on the IL. What is that all about? Hopefully just getting his wisdom teeth out or something..
  6. Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers won their leagues in the 1st half. Individually, I'm still excited about Lewis (what he did in coming back this year and will do again), Steer, Wallner, Julien, Encarnocion-Strand, E.Rodriguez (another injury which does make things less exciting) along with these pitchers - Festa, Hajjar, Raya, Gipson-Long, Headrick, and SWR. I look at most of minor league starting pitchers and think we have a good chance to win.
  7. Must be a typo - are we facing a RH or LH because we have Garlick DH'ing and batting 5th. Hope he does better than I think he will tonight against a RH.
  8. Where is Correa failing on defense, what area? Urshela makes some great plays and messes up some easy plays. People have wanted to get rid of Kepler, including me, but we don't have anyone equal to him in regards to corner OF defense. Maybe Celestino but he may end up being Kepler without power. Our current pitching staff needs all the defense it can get. Of course, our hitters have 1 run in the last two games so they aren't carrying the load either.
  9. Wins Above Replacement (WAR) Definition WAR measures a player's value in all facets of the game by deciphering how many more wins he's worth than a replacement-level player at his same position (e.g., a Minor League replacement or a readily available fill-in free agent). For example, if a shortstop and a first baseman offer the same overall production (on offense, defense and the basepaths), the shortstop will have a better WAR because his position sees a lower level of production from replacement-level players. The formula For position players: (The number of runs above average a player is worth in his batting, baserunning and fielding + adjustment for position + adjustment for league + the number of runs provided by a replacement-level player) / runs per win For pitchers: Different WAR computations use either RA9 or FIP. Those numbers are adjusted for league and ballpark. Then, using league averages, it is determined how many wins a pitcher was worth based on those numbers and his innings pitched total. Note: fWAR refers to Fangraphs' calculation of WAR. bWAR or rWAR refer to Baseball-Reference's calculation. And WARP refers to Baseball Prospectus' statistic "Wins Above Replacement Player." The calculations differ slightly -- for instance, fWAR uses FIP in determining pitcher WAR, while bWAR uses RA9. But all three stats answer the same question: How valuable is a player in comparison to replacement level? Why it's useful WAR quantifies each player's value in terms of a specific numbers of wins. And because WAR factors in a positional adjustment, it is well suited for comparing players who man different defensive positions. Source - mlb.com
  10. Thank you for the great report again. One correction - Wichita seems to still be playing game #2 of the doubleheader as it is now tied at 3. Great starting pitcher - Ohl, Rozek, Balazovic. Nice to see Martin with two multi-hit games in one night. Steer with a great day as well. Bullpen - blown saves from the top to bottom in the Twins organization this week - Gore, Shreve, Klimek, Barrington to go with Cano last night.
  11. When MLB moves to bigger bases, steals will increase dramatically. Most caught stealing attempts are only out by a fraction. Good for the Twins to be ready for this change. Wallner? - seriously, 8 steals? Who knew?
  12. Why Kirilloff at DH and Miranda at 1B?
  13. Should have been an incredible 6-0 night for our minor league teams but Moran and Cano blew the Saints game. Bad news as these are guys we would like to be pushing to come back up and push guys out of the Twins bullpen. Wallner needs to move up to St. Paul. After a horrid start, this is a long, great run he is having. As for Austin Martin, we have had multiple questions about why he played only one game last week and no answer that I know of. I'm not ready to give up on him, especially if he's battling through an injury. Nice pitching last night. Henriquez had a decent game, something we never say about Strotman. Gipson-Long, Festa, Carr all also had decent games as well as some good outings from the relief pitchers on their teams. Fun to look at minor league teams this season.
  14. 2 for 2 so far with 2 rbi's.......................
  15. I thought Garlick had one option left but I must be wrong. I don't see Celestino being sent down because he is our best CF not named Byron. Kirilloff will not be optioned as the Twins aren't wasting an option on him after 10 AB's. Make sure Polanco is fully ready, maybe waiting a bit longer to bring him back and see if anyone gets injured. I would actually DFA Gordon because we now have another bench position player but Miranda could be sent down to work on being more selective on pitches.
  16. And yet 75% of the posts on here prior to the season were saying 'get rid of Arraez in a trade' as he doesn't have a position, doesn't have power, doesn't have speed, etc. Now, everyone loves him. Give Kirilloff and other rookies the same chance to prove themselves or we will just be a farm system for the rest of MLB.
  17. That team was well-rounded and played well all year. 1987 was much more unexpected with Les Straker as the #3 starter. So, for me, 1991 was more expected where as 1987 was a "make the playoffs and anything can happen" team.
  18. I'll take a chance at one better shot at a title in 2023 rather than two good chances at making it to the 2nd round in 2022 and 2023 while unlikely to have the horses to get past that round. Of course, this is saying Montas is the only move (or nonmove) and there aren't any other moving parts. There is the theory - if you make it to the playoffs, anything can happen. That has NOT worked for the Twins since 1987.
  19. No. The cost is too high. Currently, the Twins can make the playoffs but they will be lucky to make it past the first round. Getting Montas would mean they should make it past the first round but probably not the 2nd. Now, he is under team control in 2023 so that is a big plus when I think the Twins plan to be serious contenders to win it all. I still think the bidding will be too high and the Twins will not end up with Montas
  20. Austin Martin sitting for the third time in four games. Must be a nagging injury? What do we know about Cespedas? His bat has started off hot.
  21. This is all about age. He is 4 years younger than Winder and Strotman. He is the same age as SWR but pitching one level higher. He needs to improve and show some improvement this year just because he takes up a 40 man roster spot.
  22. Looked like a nice crop of starters tonight but it was not their night. Headrick, Gipson-Long and Adams all had one of their poorest outings of the year.
  23. Winder pitched 3 innings in St. Paul today. Stats looked good. Balazovic pitched in relief, which is interesting. Two good innings but gave up runs in the 3rd inning of work. Canterino being on the IL may end hopes of him coming up to the Twins this year.
