Hey, the Saints continue to score, 48 runs in the past 6 games. There's this guy named Wallner that is on fire!

I don't either as he doesn't play CF when he plays 90% of the games. Then, we have to choose - guys who can hit but are bad fielders or great defense, in general.

Julien is bad at 2B and worse in the OF and 3B. 1B would be a possibility but you probably are moving Kirilloff (a very good 1B) to the OF where I think he is average. You then probably get worse at two defensive positions. Julien belongs at DH with the Twins with Buxton in CF when he comes off the IL.

Speaking of rehabs, Jacob DeGrom is going to need one for the Rangers as he is having Tommy John surgery. How do teams like the Twins ever afford contracts like that for a pitcher? Probably just wise not to do them if you can't afford to just eat that contract for a couple of years. Glad the Twins didn't go get DeGrom.

Twins Minor League Report (6/5): Complex Opening Days!
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Add my vote to have this minor league report on Mondays. Martin playing 2nd base is interesting but probably just to get him back on the field without too many long throws.- 27 replies

Twins Minor League Week in Review (5/29-6/4)
FlyingFinn replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Wow, moving day for a bunch of RH pitchers within the minors! Possible moves over the next month IMO: Wichita to St. Paul - Lee, Severino, Keirsey, Enlow (sorry Wind Surge fans), maybe Isola. Cedar Rapids to Wichita - Rosario, Cardenas, Schobel, Jones, Swain Fort Myers to Cedar Rapids - Ortega, Veen, Culpepper, Schmidt I had Grace and Lewis on my list earlier but they already moved up today. Shuffield could even go to Wichita if they need a guy as he goes everywhere (only minor league team he hasn't played for). I'm surprised Ohl is going up. Love his throw strikes mentality but I think he will struggle in Wichita.- 10 replies

The Twins Hot Corner Is Settled for the Future
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Miller and Salas are hitting about the same in Cedar Rapids and Miller plays SS 5 days per week with Salas there for 1 day. Miller is known as the best SS defender in the Twins system. If he can hit, he's our future SS. Maybe Salas at 2B if his hitting gets much better (he's young). Severino - no way he plays SS. And I think Julien and Severino will be bad at 2B defensively. Again, it sure would be nice to have a DH spot open for one of them (or Miranda) coming up.- 47 replies

Week in Review: Mixed Feelings
FlyingFinn replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It just feels like we let the week slip away by allowing Kepler back when Wallner was (and still is) on a hitting rampage. Just a few hits by him would have been better than what Kepler did and win a game or two more even if the defense wasn't quite as good.- 32 replies

I had never paid attention to him or even remembered his name. I was all ready to start looking for him and he immediately goes on the the IL. Bummer.

There has to be some serious discussions in the Twins development department about Cano. If it wasn't just a case of Cano not listening to instruction, they have to ask 'how did we miss this and are we still missing it with guys.' Maybe it was an isolated incident but any more of this and someone could be fired. What is gold to teams like the Twins - players who perform great for the Twins at a low cost.

Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month - May 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Nice to see Camargo doing so well after a very slow start. It's kind of amazing, with all the Twins injuries, we haven't yet needed a third catcher.- 4 replies

Schobel is really doing well lately. We may yet see this promotion by July - Ortega to Cedar Rapids, Schobel to Wichita, Severino to St. Paul.

The front office is tying Rocco's hands by making him work with such a short bench. AJ Pierzynski said having 1 player on the bench last night is unheard of. Lopez has one bad thing happen to him and then every pitch is missing the catchers target by 3 feet. He's really going to hurt someone if he keeps this up.

Yes, we should play Buxton in CF. If he's not healthy enough to play there, let's put him on the IL and get him healthy enough. He's also blocking some of our good hitters who struggle in the field from playing - Wallner (who is on one of his hot streaks), Julien, and Miranda (who has 5 or 6 hits in his last three games and may be turning things around). Right now, it feels like we have MAT in CF and MAT at DH. Buxton's slump is probably due to injury so let him get healthy and get another healthy bat in the lineup.

Fajardo and Kiersey are really playing well in the Wichita OF. Does St. Paul have room for them to move up in July? Not if you have Wallner in RF, Celestino back in CF and Larnach coming down and playing LF.

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
FlyingFinn replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If Correa and Buxton would both end up on the IL, who is coming up? Miranda for Correa as Lewis can't play every day. Wallner or Julien for Buxton? Wallner is so hot, bring him up. DH would also be open for Miranda and Wallner now. -
Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
FlyingFinn replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
You thinking DeLeon moves to the long man role? Then, if we have a short start, do the Twins DFA him to try send him back to St. Paul if he pitches 4-5 innings and we need a new long man? -
Twins Daily Hitter of the Month - May 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Castro is who we always wanted Gordon to be. SSS so this may not continue. What will continue is that Castro steals bases much better and has a stronger arm that plays as a backup at SS and 3B.- 25 replies

Two games in a row. If we have double-header due to a rainout, we may see him. He also has an opt out in his contract so him pitching well lately could make him take that chance that some MLB team wants him now.

Very nice game by Solano. Julien will be a great OBP guy and hitter but I'm just not seeing him ever being better than a bad fielder. Sure wish we had a DH spot open for him.

With Jorge Lopez in complete meltdown mode, we need both Thielbar and Maeda in the pen. I'm even thinking I'd rather have Pagan pitch right now than Jorge.

Blayne Enlow is Out to Prove He Belongs
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Cole Sands pitched 80 innings at Wichita in 2021 with a 2.46 ERA. His and Varland's careers have gone in different directions since then. Varland is a starter and Sands is in the mop up role (good numbers in that role this year but his pitching hasn't been good overall since 2021). Is it all about Varland increasing his velocity and Sands not since Wichita? -
Wallner goes on these hot streaks. The Twins should have rode this hot streak until he didn't hit for a couple games.
