Byron Buxton's Clock Is Ticking
Florida Flash replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have been wanting the Twins to do something to get Buxton straightened out, if possible. Surely they could come up with some reason he needs a short IL and rehab assignment in St. Paul. BUT, they may be afraid Buxton wont hit at St. Paul either. Then what???? Oh well, it was only $200 million. Just raise the prices some more.- 52 replies

I voted. Life long rabid Twins fan. I did not vote for one Twin. First time ever. Unlike many many voters who strictly vote for their team, (looking at you Yankees fans...among others), I vote for whom I think is most deserving. Both leagues. However I dont vote 80 times or more which I think is totally asinine.

Pretty few options IMO. How about trying to find a big bat, and I dont mean yet another guy that swings for the fences every time and strikes out half the time, (we have plenty of those kind of guys) and put him at DH. Send Bux to StP on some injury rehab or whatever and see if he can get himself going, or simply shut him down for the year if there is something wrong health wise. He sure as heck isn't doing much as a DH, especially hitting 4th, but even with his lousy offensive performance, there is no one on the team with better numbers to hit 4th or 5th. I like Julian 1 or 2 and Krilloff 3 or 4 or 5. Other than that, there aint much to choose from for the meat of the order. Gotta keep Carlos at SS but I dont think he should be hitting in the top of the order. Is he mentally down because he didnt get the $350 million the Giants were offering or even the $315 million the Mets were offering? Getting rid of Gallo is no loss, except more money down the drain. Hindsight shows it was a dumb signing. I thought so back when but then at the season start I was hoping I was wrong. Unfortunately it looks like I wasnt. I am looking at 3rd place in the pretty bad AL Central.

How Invested Are You in the 2023 Twins season?
Florida Flash replied to Vanimal46's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I used to never, absolutely never, miss a game on tv or at least radio. This year I find them hard, very hard, to watch and therefore, really have stopped watching and only listen if I am driving. I can only take so many 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 games with 11-12-13 K's. I know this makes me a bad fan, but.... Actually the Saints are more fun to watch. They score some runs. -
It does seem to me that most everyone is swinging for the fences. Either that is coming down from above or players have figured out, that is where the money is as in "who cares about 3 out of 4 K's as long as you hit a home run every 30 at bats." I read about "launch angles" and not "hits". I tend to be critical of the big money guys who simply do not perform. Still pulling for Kep but he exasperates me with his refusal or inability to go to the left side once in a while. Just my opinion, but I will stick in there through thick and thin.

Thank goodness for good pitching, but 2 runs, 3 hits, 11 K's. Boring.

A friend of mine, avid Twins fan, says that whenever the Twins load the bases with no body out, the next guy will K and the next guy will bounce into an easy double play. Scary how very often that exact thing happens. He now stops watching if the other team gets 3 runs. Turns off the TV and says it is over. I still suffer though the rest of the game if it is not Friday when they arent on.

In days of old, when players werent constantly injured, pulled muscles, torn this or that, they would go out and drink beer after the game. Now they pump iron for hours, which I think results in more injuries. Everybody wants to hit home runs, and why not? The Sano approach, shut your eyes and swing as hard as you can just in case you happen to hit the ball. The Twins pay big money to somebody who hits 20 home runs, even if their ba is .170. Seen like they have little use for a 290 hitter that only hits 5 or 6 home runs.

Twins now in grace period with Diamond Sports group
Florida Flash replied to David HK's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
They simply need to hire someone with some common sense who realizes that everyone is not a mega millionaire or willing to pay anything to see a game on TV. They obviously dont have that now. That said, I was talking to a guy from Davenport Iowa who was complaining about MLB.TV. Games blacked out there were: Twins, White Sox, Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals, and Royals. That was about 2-3 years ago. Dont know if that is still the case, but I wont be surprised if it is. -
Twins now in grace period with Diamond Sports group

I hate the every friday games on Apple. I am already being gouged by Directv, because the only thing on there I watch are the Twins. Yeah I know Apple claims "It's freeeeee" but then they want my cc number. If it is "free" why do they need my cc number? I have learned a long time ago that when you hear the word "free" think "scam" and you will be right 99.999% of the time. Maybe even more. -
Exactly. All of a sudden everyone is flailing away at pitches at their caps. Seems the opposing pitchers have noticed this as well. I'll cut them some slack at the grease/rosin ball that dives out of the zone but any beer leaguer should be able to read the hard to hit, "high hard one" and lay off.

It does seem that guys who get big long term contracts go into coast mode until near the end of the contract. Oh well, it's only money. The fans will just have to cough up more, no worries.

While I hate the ghost runner during the season and in the post season. Heck I dont even like it in slow pitch softball, but understand they are trying to get in three games an evening, so okay. But I do like the clock so far. . It has always been frustrating to watch hitters fiddle around with their batting gloves and re-landscaping the batters box after every single pitch and worse, pitchers that seem reluctant to even ever throw the ball. Many times I have simply turned off the game as it drags on and on because of this.

Who Will Relieve the Relievers?
Florida Flash replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
After seeing what I did last year, I was baffled why the FO decided to let Astudillo go and keep Pagan. The Turtle not only was a better pitcher, but he could catch in a pinch and was an okay hitter. Again baffled this year why they are keeping Pagan when Astudillo is available.- 22 replies

Does Kep flat out refuse to even attempt to go the the left side, even bunt, or is he simply incapable of doing it??? A few bunts up the third base line with the third baseman by second would a stopped the overload to right.

My father in law, and avid avid Twins fan, albeit pretty cynical, assures me that Buxton will be out with a season ending hang nail by May 15th.

Agree with that. I also would like to see if they can get anything for Pagan and Lopez, but I seriously doubt there would be any takers.

Again? The Twins Lose Carlos Correa to the Mets.
Florida Flash replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Calvin Griffith was right. "They'll ruin baseball". It has just taken a bit longer than he thought it would. -
I doubt anyone would want to pick up that $11M contract based on his recent productivity.

Did it really take $11M to sign this guy?? What other teams were standing in line offering this kind of money,. Yet they didnt want to pay Gio $10 M, which I also thought was high, but I think Gio is a much better player than Gallo at this point in time. Nevertheless, I will be pulling for Gallo, but think that money could have been better spent/

The Latest on Max Kepler and the Minnesota Twins
Florida Flash replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler will be better with the new shift rule since he insisted on hitting into the 7 guys on the right side of the field. Why he didn't simply bunt to the left, or even fake it once in a while was baffling to me. Maybe he just can't but I find that hard to believe. Do that a couple of times and the shift on him would stop.- 3 replies
