  1. No one is dumb enough to pick up Buxton's salary based on his production. Granted, the Twins brain trust is likely dumb enough to give him a raise though and then whine about not having enough money. Julien & Paddock have little value IMO., but maybe a change of scenery will help them.
  2. Agree. Very obvious the team quit on Rocco. I still cannot understand ALL the injuries. I dont remember the Twins of old, Killebrew, Allison, Versalles, Rollins, etc, being hurt all the time. Granted Tony wrecked his knee on an outfield sprinkler, but seemed to always play. Also, it seems everyone is swinging for the fence every at bat and every situation. I guess that is where the money is. A 210 hitter with 24 homeruns makes a lot more money than a 310 hitter with 4 home runs.
  3. My biggest gripe with Rocco is his obsession with removing the starting pitcher no later than the 6th ining, even when that pitcher is going good....going well....whatever. However the main reason for Rocco to be fired is because, as the saying goes, you cant fire ALL the players. I am okay with keeping Rocco, but I think I would fire the whole coaching staff except for maybe Maki, unless Pete is actually making the pitching changes. Especially because the bullpen is not all that strong.. Still, the offense is the biggest problem IMO.
  4. I dont disagree, but I would like to see Farmer back. What with all the countless Twins injuries, he does a respectable job at any infield position. I wish he would hit better, but then he probably has been coached by the Twins hitting coaches.
  5. I'm kind of neutral on Rocco. He absolute cannot go up and hit for the inept batters. I dont know if the hitters are told, "Hit a home run" every time they are up or if they simply trying to hit with both hands around their throat, but the "hitting" has been awful this year and it was last year. Not very much fun to watch. I hate a 1-0 game no matter who wins. Likewise I dont much care for a 2-1 game either.
  6. I still think the annual injury epidemic is due to nearly everyone constantly pounding the weights. Everyone wants to hit home runs for the money. Who make more, money? Some 310 fitter that only hits 5 or 6 home runs, or some 190 hitter that hits 20 home runs, but is out half the season every year?
  7. I'd like to know where they are now. What they did after baseball. Something about their family, kids etc. Anyway, good article. I was a big Merritt fan back in his day. I didnt know he was a Dodgers bb.
  8. Who is making these calls? Rocco or the FO that doesnt want to look like the fools they are by grossly overpaying guys that are barely hanging on.
  9. I doubt if anyone would have picked up that contract, and if they did the Twins should be happy.
  10. Unfortunately I agree with you. The FO is determined to keep their blunders on the team and even playing a lot. Then blame Rocco for the results.
  11. With the big contract, like Kepler's, I dont think anyone will be on the phone trying to trade for either one of them or even take them off the Twins hands, without the Twins kicking in a lot of cash for their salaries for absolutely nothing in return.
  12. IMO the organization has put HUGE pressure on Buxton. Hype hype hype. "Come out, buy your tickets and watch Byron hit 7 homeruns per game." More hype every year it's Buxton Buxton Buxton. $200 million dollar contract is actually more pressure to perform. Try backing off on the guy. Now they have him hitting cleanup and he is awful there. ie More pressure to perform. Some people relish high pressure situations, others (like me) do not like it because of the massive expectations. I think Buxton has great talent but the organization has ruined him. I see him traded for virtually nothing in a couple of years, and wont be surprised if he excels there away from the Minnesota hype hype hype.
  13. I have not idea but am willing to throw in my 2 cents. IMO everyone is swinging for the fences. (Kep, Bux, etc) Home Runs = $$$$. a 210 hitter with 25 HR's makes a lot more money than a 300 hitter with 6 HRs. (remember Sano) Along with that, everyone is now pounding the weights, trying to get stronger, thus more HR's and of course way more injuries. I dont recall the Twins os 60's-80's hurt all thetime like now. I was told by a hockey coach years ago to take it easy on the weights and go more for flexibility because of less likelyhood of injuries. But like I said, I dunno.
  14. Just wait. The Twins coaches havent had enough time to screw up Austin's swing and mechanics......yet.
  15. They grossly overpaid Buxton before he really proved much. A fabulous one half of a season. (2021) but that's been it. Granted great defense, but there are a lot of guys that are great outfielders that cant hit either. He needs to hit a whole lot better. $6 million for Farmer??? Kepler's salary? (No wonder they cant trade him) Correa $35M/yr??? The Astros should pay him that, that is where he had great numbers. This is not hind sight, I said so at the time of the signings. But apparently that is the going rates for mediocre players (I'm not referring to Correa as mediocre just think $35M is absurd) and also why I can afford to go to a game very often. So no wonder they have to cut expenses. I'd start with the FO. Oh well, raise the prices some more and chase even more fans away.
  16. Like I have posted before. One run, two runs, no runs. 10 K's, 15 K's. Almost as boring as watching soccer.
  17. I find it hard to watch because of the poor/brutal offense. Same as last year. Yes it is great to see the flashy defense big leaguers do, but I would almost, but not quite, watch a soccer game (ugh) than a pitchers duel with a bunch of k's. That said, it seems to me that the ump's have a pretty large strike zone, some a lot more that others.
  18. Hard to not take Joe at catcher, but I was a big Earl Battey fan. Going back there a ways. Also I'd take Gaetti over Koskie. Where to put Hrbek? Maybe I'd put Harmon in left, Hrbek at first, and Morneau at DH. As time goes on, there are a lot of great ones.
  19. If we dont have better players at AAA, AA, or even A, our farm system is in shambles. I think the FO is desperately hoping that he can do something to ease the pain of his big contract. Unfortunately we just dont see that many position players pitching for that to happen.
  20. Was watching with my father in law. A pessimist re the Twins. He also called the three k's as soon as the bases were loaded. He also called McCutchen's home run. However the Twins will back into the playoffs by losing less than the pathetic rest of the division. I hope they dont go into the stupid celebration jumping up and down after they back in. Wait until they actually do something.
  21. I really hadn't planned to watch the ceremony but I am very glad I did. It was well planned. Excellent talks by Joe and Morneau. Kudo's to Twins planners and Dick Bremer. Bringing out the only pitcher to strike Joe out in high school was a great touch.
  22. So at his salary he "has to play" (which makes no sense to me if he cant perform) but does he have to hit in the 3 or 4 hole? That makes less sense to me.
  23. I dont know if the team is this bad or if it is the leadership. Maybe rather than replace/reshuffle a bunch of the players, the team gets rid of the mathematicians (FO and Rocco) and hire some baseball people. They have been here for 4 years and the team seems to get better players, but loses more and more. Who is making out the batting lineup. Rocco? The FO? A computer somewhere?
  24. I am starting to wonder if the Buxton hype hype hype, buy your tickets to see Buxton, hype hype, has gotten to him. It seems like it would create a lot of pressure to live up to expectations. I know the announcers, radio, tv, and post game are paid to pimp the team, and frequently go all ballistic when Byron gets a hit, "he's back now! The rest of the league better look out now." Then he goes 0-28 again. Like I said, the announcers, FO, and Rocco in postgame pressers might try backing off a bit and ease off the pressure. Winning and "team" will sell more tickets than "Buxton, Buxton, Buxton." I'm not sure that this may have affected Sano as well. Just a thought.
