    Miranda and Julien don't offer much on defense. In fact, I read an article on Miranda that said his best position is DH. OUCH! Yes, both of them will make the occasional WOW! play on defense, but day-in-and-day-out they will not help you on the field. But with the DH being tied up by Buxton offering a just above league average OPS (don't they need more from the DH spot)......... and now, for some reason, (isn't this where the hitting coach comes in?) Miranda has lost his stroke. It seems that they have ways to increase the poor runs-per-game they have been putting up that would include Buxton in CF

    In that one instance, you are correct. BUT, the real question is why would terrydactyls have predicted the "out looking" call? I personally hope Kepler keeps stroking the ball just enough to increase his trade value. As it is the old joke about a small bag of used baseballs applies.

    I can see your thinking, but would Stevenson had more MLB time if he was a call-up replacement for Buxton? I know I really, really wanted the Twin's "fascination" with Cave to end. He had plenty of time to show us he is a very good career AAA ballplayer. I think I would have had the same impression had it been Stevenson in that role. Hopefully we'll never know.

    Stevenson looks like a better Jake Cave. A ☆☆☆☆ 1/2 acceptable, continually disappointing #4 outfielder with just enough flash to his game to get some fans excited. A guy on the MLB roster whose spot looks like a good place for improvement. Don't get me wrong, I like him on the Saint's roster. I feel bad for him that Kiersey is coming up behind him.

    Reading rankings from mid to late 20s wasn't exactly inspiring. But the hard hit balls was good to hear. Now, take it one step farther, barrel rate with RISP. I mean, as long as you're getting nuts with stats.....

    I almost choked when Atlanta had a guy batting 8th with an above .300 average and over .800 OPS. It pointed out how bad the Twin's hitting is compared to a World Series contender.

    I'm willing to bet that he didn't have to tell you that Correa is underperforming as a hitter. Pretty much an established fact. Add that to GIDP, and it points out a real problem.

    Vasquez signed for 3 years. Are they willing to pay him 11 million in each of the next 2 years just to free up a roster spot?

    When they signed Gallo I thought it was as a Kepler replacement, which would actually have been an improvement. Gallo is an improvement over Kepler in everything but BA in addition to playing a decent 1st base. That was fine with me, however, there is no room for both on the roster.

    The Popkins approach works markedly better in the minor leagues where pitchers make many more mistakes. Guys who make a lot of mistakes aren't the guys getting promoted to the Bigs.

    The things I know, for sure, 1: Their approach has put them in the bottom 1/3 of the league in runs scored per game, and that won't change unless they try for change, and 2: I am not qualified to find a better hitting coach. The guys getting the big bucks are getting paid presumably because they have some knowledge of what is needed. If you're not getting what you want, use your big bucks elsewhere.

    My Daughter said she read an article by Gleeman pointing out that Pagan's WAR has been negative FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS. I have to wonder if that gets included in his "analytics". I think he is literally last place (RP) in all of baseball. I am inclined to believe it, even though I haven't looked it up.

    It drives me crazy to watch the other guys bring in a left handed reliever and watch Baldelli go to as many right handed batters as he can, depleting his bench. Then we are told the reliever statistically has a lot more trouble with left handed batters. Geez, if they're going to use analytics, USE analytics. I had enough anguish watching him burn out a not very good bullpen last year insisting on not letting starters pitch the third time around to the bad guys. It took him a year to figure out that wasn't workable, and let's not talk about Colome in a save situation. At this point, I'm ready to make a comment about riding the short bus, but that wouldn't be politically acceptable.

    My Daughter said they need to hire a team hypnotist. Maybe they could straighten out the "only useful in low leverage" relief pitching, and the abysmal bases loaded non-hitting. Yes, it was tongue-in-cheek, but it's time for desperate measures.

    The numbers may tell a different story, but I would rather see a high batting average guy come up to the plate with bases loaded than a guy like Gallo

    The problem has more to do with when they score than how much they score. Situationally they are horrible. Much like Pagan and J Lopez on the mound.

    OMG, Is there a way I can upvote this 100 times? It seems Pagan would only be suitable in low-leverage situations, either in an inning eater role when behind by 8 runs, or never with a lead of less than 5 (not sure that's enough). At least with a 5 run lead they could get him out of there after 3 batters.

    Kingman's career OPS was 780. Carew's was 822. Carew was definitely better. Fielding and base running also factor in to a player's value. Nobody would pick Kingman over Carew in either of those categories, either.

    Lately, I have been seeing lineups posted with OPS instead of BA. I like that along with RISP to get an idea of how effective a batter is at the plate.

    Until RF becomes a position that values defense (C, CF, SS) over offense, I believe Kepler is, at best, limited in his value. The Twins seem to have a problem producing runs which is usually the job of the guys on the corners (infield and outfield).

    At one point the Twins had Encarcion-Strand, Steer, Miranda, and Julien in the minors. There's no room for that much fumble-handedness on a ball field. Something had to give.

    I know I'm in the minority, but it's better to trade a guy too early than it is to trade him too late. I think they have 2 or 3 young prospects to hold down 2nd base. Therefore I think trading Polanco now for a good haul would be a smart move (before his leg and ankle problems resurface). I am a huge Miranda fan, but, yes, they have to figure out how to get his bat going or he has little value. Has anyone else questioned whether they need to get his vision checked? I am probably wrong, but sometimes he looks like people I know with ill fitting contacts.
