  1. Griffith's problem was that the Twins were his only source of income. If he lost money he didn't eat
  2. I believe Severino will take the job in Spring Training. Two years ago he led all of MiLB in HRs between A and AA. He's hit everywhere he's played except for a slow start at AAA which he made up for with a decent 2nd half. He's got above average power and he's a switch hitter. He wouldn't be the first poor fielder/good hitter that a team tried to hide at 1st base. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. I have given up on Kirilloff, and, although I wouldn't mind them re-signing Santana, he's kind of the inverse of what you need at 1st base (average bat, slick fielder).
  3. Watching Severino at first base would give you the impression that he's a (benefit of the doubt) slightly below average fielder. Second base, not so much, (I'm smiling real big). Guys like Spencer Steer come to mind. Severino is strictly a hitter. 2 seasons ago he lead the entire minor leagues in HRs, this season, at AAA, he started slow, but he came around. I've noticed him playing some right field at St. Paul lately. Maybe they have a plan for Santana. OK with me. Just as with Correa I am a fan for life.
  4. He has hit at a .250 clip over his career. They wouldn't be much as friends if they walked away because he's having a down year. I'm not a Farmer fan (I expect him to be gone); I just question the effect on the clubhouse.
  5. I fully expect him to be gone, and he is way overpaid. When they re-signed him, he was the primary backup at shortstop, I understood that. Now what they have to think about is how many good friends are going to be upset and complaining about loyalty, etc. Yes, I know they are professionals, but they are people first. It's not simply a matter of hiring a coach.
  6. I will be a fan of Santana's if he goes or stays, but first base is a position where clubs try to hide a mediocre fielder with a big bat. Santana plays first like he has had ballet lessons, and there is value to that, but, as a hitter he is middle-of-the-road. I do get the impression that he gets timely hits (don't know what the numbers say). The switch hitting is nice, but I think they signed him as a bridge to Severino (also a swith hitter). Severino is a masher, and I think he will have to lose the job rather than win it.
  7. That's what I was thinking, but, all I hear about Farmer is that he's a terrific, wonderful, excellent clubhouse guy. Not sure how much that is worth.
  8. Next season they won't want to pay Kepler, they won't re-sign Margot, I don't think they will re-sign Santana, and I'm not sure of Farmer's staus.
  9. I am also wondering why Kiersey doesn't seem to be on their radar. However, about a week ago, Helman's slugging percentage was somewhere around .560. I look for Helman, Kersey, Severino, and Eeles next season. Eeles would bring a Charley Hustle attitude with him.
  10. Hey, they're going to have to replace Dobnak after next season. Desclafani should be healthy by then. Seems like a no-brainer. 😄
  11. Considering that Dobnak is Jake Cave as a pitcher.......
  12. Did you ever hear the Moms Mabley clip, where she talks about some male acquaintance dying. She says her Momma told her to talk good about the dead. "Good. He dead"
  13. Not only no, but........I'm starting to think he should be the closer.
  14. Slow down, slow down. You know, when he gets to 70 home runs, they'll start walking him.
  15. What I saw was, when he threw a strike, it was usually over the middle of the plate.
  16. I would like to see Martin leading off for the Twins. He seems to have a pretty good OBP wherever he plays. Batting Julien behind him (also good OBP) would set the 3, 4, and 5 hitters up to drive in a lot of runs.
  17. I would be happy to see Martin leading off with Julien batting second. Put runners on base for the big hitters to get career high RBI numbers.
  18. I have to paraphrase, because it was so long ago. In the pre-DH Era, Billy Martin said if he had 8 .300 hitters that hated each other he'd have a pretty good ballclub.
  19. The Twins set a SO record. Julien is/was part of that problem (38% ?) while Kirilloff was about 26%. Give Kirillof a year platooning with Santana to see what you've got. I read Kirilloff is a + defender at 1st. You won't get that from Julien.
  20. The map is not correct. I'm in the Washington/Baltimore area, but Atlanta is also blacked out. It's 577 miles from Baltimore to Atlanta as the crow flies. That's around 1/5 of the distance from east coast to west coast. What really gets me, is that when those teams go to Minnesota the games are still blacked out. And MLB crys about losing fans!
  21. That " in market" thing is a puzzler. I'm smack dab in the middle of North Carolina, and the black out area is all the way from Baltimore to Atlanta. (577 miles as the crow flies). That includes Washington. What really makes me gnash my teeth is that if any of those teams are away (in Minn.) those are also blacked out on MLB.tv WTF!! You'd think that MLB would be trying to attract more fans, not alienating the ones they already have.
  22. Faulty thinking. Gray is/was gone anyway, therefore comparing this rotation to last years means you are trying to compare DeScalifini (great, why couldn't they have traded for a Smith) to Gray. Of course, that won't look good. However, adding De...... to the actual rotation they were going into this season with means they did, indeed, slightly improve. Yes, it hurts to lose Polanco, but the logjam in the infield, and his injury history, salary, and age meant he was the logical choice to go. We would like to think Polo should have commanded more of a return, but people grading the trade think the Twins did OK.
  23. Thin air, curves don't bend as well, balls sail farther. That sounds like what Larnach needs. Now, convince their front office.
  24. "giving up on Buxton already." In 9 seasons with the Twins Buxton has averaged 74.4 games played per season. He has averaged a .239 batting average while hitting a homerun every 19.6 times at bat but striking out once every 3 at bats. For a guy who came up as a "5 tool prospect" that is hardly impressive. His defense would make up for his less than ideal hitting, if he played defense. Right now, I consider him a defensive specialist with some pop, but he hasn't played in 50% of the games he could have. You are much more patient than I am!
