  1. And yet, I can recall many cases where a fielding liability with a big bat has been stashed at 1st to keep them in the lineup
  2. I'm glad you mentioned Fedko. He's second on the Saints on HRs and OPS. And I have seen them move Rodriguez to RF to put Fedko in Center. He's 26, so it's time for them to see what he has
  3. I would be shocked if no one had ever tried Wallner at 1st base. He's just too big and too defensively challenged in the outfield for that thought to have never occurred to anyone when he was in school or the minor leagues.
  4. All by itself the Varland trade could, at least, be explained. Rojas and Roden both look like they could contribute in the future. But, they had just gutted their bullpen. Varland was the sole remaining reliable guy out there. Right now, I'm not sure how big a lead needs to be, to be safe. It will straighten itself out in 2 or 3 years, but Buxton isn't getting younger, and the next wave will be asking for more money about that time.
  5. "Serious HIT potential even if he has only limited power" makes him what? Mauer-lite?
  6. He looks like he could be a 1st baseman. It would be hard for me to believe that nobody has tried it already. If so, it must have looked pretty bad
  7. I want Larnach gone. He is in the way of 2 or 3 guys with much higher ceilings. I haven't reached that point with Wallner, but I'm getting close.
  8. Unfortunately, so far, Lee has not shown us anything like "a plus hitter". He's got a long way to go before they can justify playing him for his bat. I haven't given up on him yet, but it seems to me that he only has this year to show that he can be more than an acceptable utility guy. I think he can play better defense at 2nd than Keaschall, but so can Clemens. For now, I want Culpepper to take a shot at SS with Lee at 2nd (I think we've seen the best from Clemens and, while he did have one good month, is that enough?) At least Lee is a switch hitter.
  9. Tom Pohlad is in a tough spot. He's scrambling to find ways to increase attendance and fan interest. "Hey, Ryan is pitching. Let's go to the game" is one way to hold on to what little attendance they're getting now. I can see the argument for trading him for a good return, but the philosophy of trading players because their value is high and might drop is a good way to remain at a AAA level. That will certainly not do much for fan interest in the present and will decrease the value of the ballclub. I'm all for the Pohlads selling. Keep that value as high as possible in the short term.
  10. Honestly curious. Is there a downside to "internal brace" surgery? Why don't they do that the first time surgery is needed?
  11. I am old school, too, but when a reliever comes in with a runner on second, and that guy scores, it doesn't go on the reliever's ERA
  12. Twin's fans, at the start of every season, are more hopeful than realistic. 🫣
  13. In Griffith's defense, baseball was his only business. He couldn't afford to treat it as a hobby, and take an occasional loss. I, too, was happy when he sold; I just wish it would have been to somebody that could afford to treat it like a hobby. I'm not asking for anybody to lose money on a consistent basis, but I don't see a way for a small market team to be consistently profitable and consistently competitive.
  14. I lost my pom-poms, and I don't look good in a short skirt. 😄
  15. The question is, what do they have that the Twins need? And don't say shortstop. 😄
  16. One problem for a knuckleballer is anyone (including Willans Austidillo) has a decent chance at a stolen base. The pitch is slow, and the Catcher has to concentrate on making the catch before he can throw. A man on base is a bad, bad thing
  17. In the finest example of "sour grapes", I have decided not to care if they win 60 or 160 games. I will watch for the diving catches, the throw-out at the plate, etc. I absolutely ached for the Ishbias to buy out the Pohlads, because I had the impression they would treat the Twins as a hobby, not as a business, and wouldn't care as much about making money on their investment as they would about going after a World Series. That was my impression, anyway. And, yes, the roster is that bad.
  18. Let's all hope those trades don't happen. Dumping even more salary would increase profits for the Pohlads, and they wouldn't even consider selling. For my own mental health, I stopped caring about wins or losses, and have jumped off the bandwagon. I will follow individual performances with no concern how the teams is doing.
  19. There are so many theories thrown out here that one has to be correct. However, a betting man would take the "we will never know which theory is correct" bet.
  20. There are a lot of Hispanic ballplayers, but not many actual Spanierds 😁
  21. I'm trying real hard to be impressed with a .759 OPS against right handers, but I just can't get there. On one hand, it is marginally better than the way Margot "rakes" (like we were told a couple of years ago) left handers in the .720s. so, I guess, there's that. I think Larnach is a marginally average hitter who is a defensive liability. Are you trying to find something to be impressed about? Definitely a roster position that could be improved.
  22. Their whole job is to convince fans that they can be competitive. I don't envy them.
