  1. This Mr. Duffey and his big yakker might be somethng special.
  2. To me, the "bad fans" are exactly the opposite, the die-hard folks that put 99% of their lives into the support of a team whose players would have as little to do with them as possible IRL. Think euro soccer hooligans as the most extreme example. I'm old enough to remember when a lot of major league athletes had off-season jobs. Harmon Killebrew sold bloody cars for example. There is a sense of entitlement that exists in top level sports professionals that wasn't there a generation or two ago. Hard to lose sleep over a devastating loss when my club of millionaires lost to another club of the same.
  3. Being realistic makes you a bad fan, if you consider fan short for fanatic. I don't think you need to worry on this one....
  4. You could argue that Arcia was rushed to MLB, and as a result he has major flaws in his game. Him being rushed is debatable, but given what the Twins have trotted into the outfield the last 4 seasons, understandable. Dude has a career ,297 BA in the minors, including this years putrid numbers at Rochester, and is ony 6 months older than AB Walker. He's probably their worst handled prospect since David Arias, and we know how that turned out.
  5. Would have preferred Oswaldo to tell the truth. No beef with Molly though, even though Buxton did squeeze an infield hit off Rondon the night before, and was 2for three in the game. BB has a lot to learn.
  6. Classic late bloomer One of my faves actually. But like stats at lower levels don't relate to MLB(actually, a lot do), one outlier doesn't make a or break a trend.
  7. DocBauer is right on. Once he acclimates to major league pitching, he will be lethal. If you believe he will acclimate to major league pitching(and he has acclimated to every level thus far despite injuries and being well below league average age at every step), he will be lethal.
  8. I did love the quick thrill of win division, win lcs, off to world series. However, It does make sense to expand the playoffs when you grow the league. 30 teams fighting for 4 playoff spots would lead to lots of empty stadiums in August/September.
  9. You got me - thought it was going to be a Vargas article. I could very well see Oswaldo have a successful career; would hate to see him do it elsewhere. OF is pretty crowded suddenly. Where are Mastro and Schaeffer when you need them....
  10. Another good point from the FSN team - Gibson is in his 2nd full season. I like his chances to be a solid top 3 starter in this league for some years to come.
  11. Great comp by Smalley - Derek Lowe, Kyle Gibson. Watched a lot of Lowe in Boston.
  12. Don't change White Sox. Please.
  13. I don't know what it is with Sale and the Twins.... BUT I LIKE IT!
  14. Dozier always seems to fade in the 2nd half - maybe he needs to be spelled once in a while to stay fresh as the season grinds on.
  15. TR looks good tonight - good games from Santana, Hunter, Jepsen.
  16. He ain't Vin Scully, but i was pleasantly surprised to listen to the Cubs on MLB tonight and discover their color guy is our old friend Ron Coomer. Always liked his commentary. But yeah, I've listened to Dodger games just for this reason. Piece o history there.
  17. Kepler seems to fly a little under the radar, thanks to Buxton and Sano. Nice to see this level of recognition for him.
  18. Jepsen's ability to close has been the most pleasant surprise. I guess he had some saves with the Rays as well, but I thought he was mainly a set-up guy.
  19. Funny thing about Pelf: his ERa is still quite a bit less than Hughes, Santana, or Nolasco. Granted, he has sucked of late, but he did contribute earlier in the season. Another case of "what have you done for me lately"? I do think he is a beloved teammate with a sense of humor, for what it's worth. Don't know the advanced stat for that....
  20. You are the king of one man threads. Hats off! Milone is an excellent comp.
  21. Thanks for keeping us posted - funny how top ten draft picks getting signed seems uber-important, then we soon forget about them.
  22. I've been surprised by Rosario and his arm. 15 assists puts him 2nd in the AL, 1 behind Garcia of the CWS. Not bad for a rookie. To think he was being groomed as a 2nd baseman just a couple years ago.
