  1. If they do trade him, it better be for someone good. No more Capps, Hoey hooey.
  2. ABW II - the man helps his teams win. I like that.
  3. I hope nobody picks Jorge. What are the rules for the AAA and AA rule 5?
  4. Hence the big contracts to Nolasco, Hughes, and Santana? Or laying out 12 million to negotiate with Park? I hope my banker is more conservative than TR.
  5. Having a plan and sticking to it isn't being conservative, it's being smart. Look at the Texas Rangers, love to make splashy deals seemingly for the sake of it: Hamilton, Fielder,Hamels ... Where are the WS rings? Cubs are another example, although they've drafted and developed well. SF Giants are doing it right, with a mainly homegrown team, adding here and there when appropriate: THAT'S who the Twins should emulate, and are parallel to some degree - gotta stop wasting dough on marginal free agents. Going out and making big deals and signing fre agents works less often than organizations that have a solid foundation and make only the deals that compliment the core: KC, SF, the good Boston teams, even the Yanks (Jeter, Williams, Rivera, Posada, Petite, all drafted and developed). The Twins are on the right track - trying to rush things by throwing money at it is just wrong, and usually fails. This is based on the assumption that the Twins were a fringe team, not true contenders last season.
  6. I was wondering the same thing as Sane - much easier to stash a guy away on the DL for a good chunk of the season than at the end of the bullpen. Melatokis becomes even more attractive in that light.
  7. For those hell-bent on Wieters, does this affect your opinion of the Murphy deal?
  8. How can anyone say with certainty that Buxton won't have a great spring and jump into the CF spot? Just because some pundit or front office suit thinks that doesn't make it so.
  9. I like the trade - I'd much rather the Twins went for a young catcher with potential, which they did, than trade Rosario, Kepler, or Berrios for a proven commodity. Hicks is what he is - 26 ain't exactly young in baseball terms. He's had chance after chance. Sure, he might go full Papi in NY, but I doubt it. We traded two other 1st round CFs that were better imo, Span and Revere, and the jury is still out on those trades. The odds of this being a mistake are there, but I think adding Murphy will help more than losing Hicks will hurt.
  10. I will be angry if the Twins trade either Rosario or Kepler. I will be sad if they trade Arcia. I'm neutral on Hicks: he looked good by the end of the season, but with Buxton waiting in the wings, he seems least likely to regret trading later.
  11. Him and Sano back to back? Showtime....
  12. I was hoping he was a lefty - oh well. Should be interesting.
  13. If Cuddy can do it, why not Sano?
  14. Thanks for the info guys.
  15. What do Molitor and Ryan think about Suzuki? I think Molitor likes him. Apart from St. Peter's comment about AJ, is there any evidence the Twins are looking to upgrade at catcher? I know on this website the answer is an unqualified yes they should upgrade. I may have missed some comments from the Twins FO along the way.
  16. I'd rather bring back Thome.
  17. This has been my point exactly - he get promoted, he jacks and whiffs phenomenally, repeat. What happens when he settles, that's what I'm looking at.
  18. Thanks for posting this - those commentators sounded more excited to watch Walker II than me. Walker and Stuart both look very strong. Wish they had had this league the 4 years I lived in Tempe.
  19. I used to be a religious buyer of Baseball America's prospect handbooks (I remember Blackburn as #1, and David McCarty). Whereas I liked being able to see the reports for all the teams, I think the prospect reports at Twins Daily are much better: knowledgeable folks who actually see the players, and have contact with insiders, very intersting reading.
  20. Wow, don't get the Vielma comments. Guy doesn't have power, but he has speed and appears to be able to get on base. .266-.270 is a decent BA. He's been a year and a half younger than league average the last two years and held his own. If the defense is as adversised, he'd be an ideal 9 hitter who could get the ball rolling for the top of the order. BTW, the only Miracle regular who had a higher batting average than Vielma was Alex Swim. And Vielma was their youngest hitter. Looks like some good potential to me.
  21. The guy had one exceptional season, at 28. Odds are he's never gonna do that again. I would never trade a top prospect for this kind on player, ever.
  22. He's been great. With concussion, late 20's, been there done that. That package would be better spent on an up and coming catcher.
  23. The Twins don't look so crazy drafting power arm relievers in droves the last few drafts any more.
  24. AB Walker - my theory. He is gonna be good. He's been on a continuous learning curve. He's never repeated a level, yet he seems to end up at the top of the old fashioned HR and RBI tables at every stop. Once he has seen it all, and has made his adjustments, he'll probably still K a lot, but I think the good will outweigh the bad: dat power.
  25. No way was this the year for the Twins to go all in. Smoke and mirrors will only get you so far: too many holes, not enough top talent in its prime. We exit the season on a pretty high note, with lots of good young players, and some nice veterans to shepherd them along. If the kids take the next step, and the pen can be beefed up, this will be a different conversation next year.
