  1. Ugh, not good. This move Enlow's arrival date to somewhere in 2023, most likely. Good to hear Canterino didn't have a serious elbow problem.
  2. Yeah, we're not missing Rosario's .635 OPS / 75 OPS+ / subpar OF defense, he's basically Astudillo at the plate (they both have 4 HRs!) but he gets plenty more RBI chances since he hits in the #4 spot. I am happy with Kirilloff and Larnach getting full reps in LF/RF. Hill is old and always hurt, so I really can't blame them for letting him go. Of course, then they went out and signed Shoemaker, who is also old and always hurt...
  3. I may be new to the stock market... but man, AMC was just killing it for me last week. I sold 75% of my shares, but still came out with 200%+ gains on it. And today CLOV, another one I've got money in, is absolutely skyrocketing. Going after these heavily-shorted stocks seems to be working out for me!
  4. I heard this back in 2018 as well, we wouldn’t have Duran here if we had held onto Escobar for another 2 months. I don’t see the point of having Cruz spend August and September on a bad/middling team. He deserves to go on a World Series run with a real contender.
  5. He was the final piece in the Escobar trade, he was seen as a lotto ticket, but you could bump him up to low-tier prospect. Still a fringe bench bat at best, probably.
  6. I agree that the top story has to be the complete failure to find and develop pitchers, especially in a historic pitcher-friendly season. Just imagine how many more runs this staff would be giving up if this was 2019! I still find it inexcusable that Shoemaker has a spot in the rotation. We have other options - Charlie Barnes, for example, could be added to the 40 man and could start a few games until Maeda is ready. Jax could start, too. Shoemaker always had little upside, and it's clear he's cooked. Why even bother when he couldn't get out of the 1st inning last time? Plus, this offense is infuriating to watch. They're quite good at getting runners on base, but are just so awfully non-clutch. I am still in favor of finding a new hitting coach.
  7. Canterino to the IL with elbow problems is quite forboding... Good to see Balazovic back in action, though I do hope they are patient with him. This is his first experience in the high minors, so I find it unlikely he's going to be ready for MLB competition this year. I wouldn't rule out a September promotion for him, however. He needs to get more innings under his belt.
  8. Jax was here in case today's start went short, as we went through several guys in yesterday's catastrophe. He should fill the long reliever role, and could start some games down the road. If he's going to have a role in the majors, it's probably going to be as a long reliever IMO.
  9. Get out the DFA machine, prepare for the fire sale. This team has been dead in the water for weeks. The number of embarrassing games continues to mount... reminds me of the 2016 Twins and 2010 Vikings. Here's hoping the front office is learning lessons from this horrid season.
  10. I would consider the deal if the prospect weren't coming off thoracic surgery, which doesn't have a great track record for recovery in baseball. Give me a #6 prospect who's healthy for Donaldson as a starting point, and then we'll talk.
  11. With the minor league season starting a month late and most starters going 5/6 innings and in the 80 pitch range, I doubt there will be many/any innings limits in September. As for the bullpen, I wonder if we could see Yennier Cano and Jovani Moran get chances late in the season.
  12. The fact that the article only points 4 players should be a sign that this is a bad team, and the article isn't pushing any ideas that are "obscuring" anything. Individual players can have good seasons even when their team as a whole is playing like crap.
  13. I’d rather see Barnes start than Shoemaker, even if his potential isn’t very high. Thorpe continues to teeter, could be a DFA candidate if he keeps spiraling downward.
  14. Celestino may surprise some with his defensive prowess in CF, but his bat is going to be pretty raw. I'm not expecting much from him at the plate. Kerrigan is a name to watch, he has some serious pop in his bat, and he's quite fast. Not sure if he's a good fielder, but he could be a bench option in the future.
  15. I'll have to give Miranda a bump up my prospects ranking, I haven't been as high on him as some others have, but he seems to finally be having his breakout year. Sometimes you've got to have patience with a prospect... a lot of patience. 29 Ks for Wallner? Woof. That's not good, despite the rest of the numbers looking sexy. All these power-only prospects in our system me of a past contentious prospect who went by the name Adam Brett Walker... Palacios has me intrigued, but he's got to keep raking for me to believe it. He tanked against AA in 2018 and 2019 for the Rays, He is still 24, so perhaps he can get his prospect status back on track. I am looking forward to updating my prospects ranking this summer!
  16. I haven't forgotten him, he's just been striking out too much to be a relevant prospect at this point. Unlike most other prospects, he's got plenty of experience under his belt and he should be "ready"... but he's not. He turns 27 at the end of the year, so it's not like he's young and raw. We don't need another Sano in our lineup, and as Dman said, we're better off finding RH hitting off the waiver wire. At this point, I'm hoping Wallner and Sabato don't go down the same path Rooker is going. If anyone is a "forgotten" prospect, it's Nick Gordon - he had lost 2019-2020 seasons, and is now riding the bench and is not being treated like a prospect... sure, he doesn't have a ton of upside, but I'd rather see him get some playing time.
  17. I agree with the comments above, Duran just needs to get more innings under his belt. I wouldn’t mind if he doesn’t come up until August, when he’s ready to go. I’m starting to sour on Thorpe again. Can’t keep his MPH up, and he’s toast if he can’t find a role as a reliever.
  18. SSS aside, Refsnyder has been a pretty massive upgrade from Cave. Hits RH, seems to be better defensively, and has had competent ABs. Yes, he's not going to keep hitting .380, but I'd much prefer his approach to Cave's feeble 45 OPS+.
  19. Holy cow, Seth, this is a beefy update. Good work!! The starter prospects give me a lot of hope, they seem to be mostly dealing. Just got to get Balazovic going again, he has a lot of ground to cover. A few of the hitting prospects do concern me with their K rates. Rooker seems to be leaning towards bust now that he can't hit anything, and our other two plus-power prospects are striking out a ton. Wallner and Sabato have plenty of time, but they have me worried. I'm also surprised with Jeffers' massive struggles, even at AAA. He was holding up against MLB pitching last year, and now can't find his footing. To answer your question, Opening Day Rotation 2024: Balazovic, Canterino, Winder, Free Agent/Trade, Free Agent/Trade. I've done these in years past and they always end up being wildly inaccurate, so here's a unique one. Duran ends up in the pen, Dobnak is traded in a previous year, and the other prospects either bust or remain in the minors.
  20. It's nice to know that there are starter prospects working their way up the minors, but I think part of the reason why we haven't had any recent arms come up is the lack of focusing on drafting pitchers highly. In all of the Falvine drafts (2017-2020), the only two pitchers were taken in the 1st or 2nd round: Landon Leach (who is no longer in the organization), and Matt Canterino. They've prioritized hitters in every single draft. They seem more confident in bringing in veteran starters on one year deals and fixing broken DFA'd relievers through these first few years managing the Twins. I, for one, hope that we can be done with bringing in starters on one year deals like Martin Perez, Lance Lynn, Homer Bailey, JA Happ, and Matt Shoemaker and instead rely on our internally developed guys, or maybe go out and trade for a high-end starter? If Falvine wants this team to become more like the Rays (that's why they hired Rocco, I assume?), then start acting like it!
  21. I was at the Saints game tonight, and didn't realize Duran was starting. Here's a shot of him in the 1st inning: https://i.imgur.com/YbF7Rxw He was pretty rusty in the 1st inning, giving up 3 singles in a row to start, but he settled down and looked better, but did throw a lot of pitches. I found it amusing that he hit 103 MPH on their radar, but it was probably more 99/100. The Indians hitters weren't blown away by it. Here's one later in the game of Jeffers hitting: https://imgur.com/QNMzkVd The Saints hitters were very unwhelming. Kerrigan was the notable exception, he has some pop in his swing, and he nearly hit a second HR to straight-away CF. He's got some speed and pop, perhaps he gets a shot at some point. Hmmm, looks like the old way to share images isn't working. Darn.
  22. Glad to see the starter prospects pitch so well. It’s taken a long time, but finally we’ll have a pipeline of guys like Duran, Balazovic, Sands, Enlow, Winder, and Canterino coming up. I still am not a fan of this FO’s love of power-only prospects (did we really need Rooker, Wallner, and Sabato?), but at least they’ve seemed to be developing these arms well.
  23. Please replace Shoemaker with Dobnak... there's just no upside with Shoemaker. Dobnak might be able to at least be the #5 guy going forward (like they're paying him to be). His stuff had more life this time out, with some more Ks than usual. He's clearly better starting than coming out of the pen.
  24. Cano should be moving up to AAA soon, and Canterino to AA. Good to see Kirilloff swinging the bat well, hopefully that wrist of his can hold for the rest of the season.
  25. Just going to drop a few quotes on the subject from far smarter people than I: “If you don’t want us to score, then stop us.” -Bill Belichick CC Sabthia: "If you don’t want them to swing 3-0, then throw strikes!” Personally, I don't think unwritten rules are hurting the game, there are already a plethora of other issues doing that. Also, the idea that it is absolutely fine to try and hit a batter because they've wronged you is dangerous and should not be encouraged. Enforcing these backwards rules by potentially injuring a player is insanity. Punishing hitters for doing their job!
