  1. Right, I'm not making the argument that the Dodgers are the primary issue here. The whole system is broken as so many teams refuse to spend money and allow the top teams to sign the majority of the best FAs. Just wish it could be like the NFL.
  2. And they got Yates too. Ugh.
  3. The Jets are trying to finalize a deal with Glenn, so it seems Flores will return as it appears he isn't a finalist for the Jags job.
  4. It does make me wonder, if Prielipp is already on the verge of helping the major league team with only 30 minor league innings under his belt, why do most prospects need to spend so much time developing, at least when it comes to college arms like Prielipp? Clearly he has some special stuff given how highly he was drafted, but it makes me wonder if some college pitchers were moved to the bullpen quicker we could see more MLB results compared to the usual struggles of minor league pitchers becoming viable starters and waiting until year 2-4 of their careers to move them to the pen. But it's a no-nonsense move to put him and Canterino in the pen at this point in their careers, they are likely to never have the durability to make it as starters. Might as well extract what you can from their dynamic arms while they are healthy.
  5. I don't see any evidence that they would go away from the 2 catcher model. It's hard to say if they have any faith in Camargo, my guess would be he is on the fringes of the 40 man roster. And once again, I doubt Gasper is given a legitimate shot to be a MLB catcher.
  6. It was probably down to the Bears and Raiders giving him their final bids this weekend, and he probably wanted the Bears job most. Caleb Williams has an elite skillset he can work with and their roster isn't terrible, while the Raiders have nothing at and a worse roster, and may have to trade up in an underwhelming 2025 QB class. I would guess that was the tiebraker, not the Raiders/Brady overreacting to one play call.
  7. Reports say that Aaron Glenn has his choice between the Jets or Saints job. If he gets the Jets job then I think Flores is back. Betting favorite for Cowboys job is Schottenheimer… yikes.
  8. The ridiculous disparity between payrolls in baseball has been a big factor in why I've lost passion in the game the past few years. The Dodgers have been to the playoffs 12 years in a row and 7 times have made it to the semifinals.
  9. It is strange, though it is just the Bears and Jets, and they have interviewed 17 and 16 candidates a piece. Still, he wouldn't be in my top 30 HC candidates. I can see the Jets doing it, I agree about the other two. I think they are the only team that has a real chance of hiring Flores, there were some league rumors about the Jets hiring him and then taking McCown to be their OC and even Grigson (our current assistant GM) to be their GM. How Grigson would get another HC job after bungling the Colts with Luck and not being able to draft with the Vikings would be baffling, but a Flores/McCown combo makes a lot of sense to me.
  10. Correct, he was added to the 40 man roster on April 22nd, 2024 after being DFA'd in 2023.
  11. Welp, Jayden Daniels is already the best QB in the NFC. And this has been the most exciting game of the year, in my opinion. Washington finally escapes the clutches of Dan Snyder and finds their franchise QB, and is now an instant Super Bowl contender. Did not see that coming!
  12. I would suspect it has more to due with Varland's velocity uptick upon joining the bullpen and his strikeout rate compared to Henriquez. Ronny did a decent job last year but only hit 7.0 K/9 and was a mid-season add to the 40 man roster whereas there has been some amount of prospect hype for Varland.
  13. Yeah, I don't get the hype. They have two studs and a quality middle reliever in Sands, and then a bunch of question marks. Stewart when healthy last year had a whip of nearly 1.5 and had a WAR under zero, Alcala is mystery, and Topa has only ever pitched in 8 or more games a season once in the majors. I like Varland as a reliever, but he's no sure thing. And they don't have a single serviceable lefty... this isn't a blueprint for the best bullpen in baseball.
  14. That's what I don't get. The Cardinals game was similar, he was taking sacks and the OL was stinking, but the 4th quarter comes around and Sam suddenly starts hitting his open receivers and they complete the comeback. The Packers game was a huge matchup and he seemed completely fine, and tore up their secondary. I'm not shocked he turned back into a pumpkin, but I am also confused as to why there weren't more warning signs before the Lions game.
  15. But they lost the next week to the Chiefs in Super Bowl IV, so I don't see how that counts.
  16. Nix's tools are better than I thought, but his stats get fluffed up by short passes. He has one of the lowest average depth of targets in the league. And even like today's game, people will point to him having a 100+ passer rating and nearly 50 yards rushing... and they've scored 7 points midway through the 4th quarter. He needs better weapons, but I wonder about his ceiling.
  17. The 2024 Offseason is going to go down as the mystery of how Hall of Fame players in Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley only got $12M per year deals when teams were giving those kind of contracts out to mediocre players, like Gabe Davis to the Jags for $12M and so on. And Kirk Cousins getting $90M to play one season in Atlanta.
  18. I concur with Leviathan, the kid we’re sending to the Dodgers is far off the prospect radar, may as well get something for him. See if Cartaya rebounds in a new environment, and if not then they move on. I also agree with Gasper not being a catcher. He’s not going to be a factor there.
  19. It was an odd process for the Patriots, they handed the job to Mayo without interviewing anyone else last year, and had easily the worst roster in football so the expectations should have been low. He may have lost the locker room based on some interviews I saw with Patriots players, but perhaps there is a coaching candidate out there they really want now - Vrabel seems to be the name the media thinks. But if they bothered to do an actual search last year, Vrabel could have been part of that process. Ironic that all these years of watching Belichick protégés go out and flop elsewhere, the first thing they do after firing Bill is immediately bringing in one of his disciples? They should have at least interviewed Brian Flores, the most successful of his disciples.
  20. They're gonna need a massive boost in play from the young players if this team is going to make any kind of playoff push. Also, it would be a crime against baseball to go into the season with a bullpen with no legitimate left handed relievers... again (once it became clear Thielbar was cooked).
  21. Twins Daily is gonna be a satire website before you know it! It’s what we’ll have to do to survive… until we’re under new ownership.
  22. Caleb Williams has a ton of talent, but when he's under pressure his accuracy becomes abysmal and he overthrows too often. He has speed, but doesn't have the knack to know when to run and get that free yardage. The coaching has been terrible too and the OL has been questionable, but even in well blocked games he stinks. There was an earlier game where he was pressured only 9 times... and got sacked 7 times! It's also up for debate how much of a leader he is because his body language reminds me more of a college freshman rather than a leader of an NFL locker room. Still way too early to give up on him and there is tons of room for growth, but he is a massive project at this point. They basically drafted the next version of Justin Fields and fired their coach right after taking him just like the previous regime did.
  23. The Twins were clearly done with Moran, might as well get something for him I guess. Eh.
  24. He's playing like a top 10 QB, but is he actually one? I think the environment around him has been a major factor in his success and I would be absolutely fine rolling with JJ and a high end backup like Daniel Jones, and in case JJ has injury problems they can elevate Jones' abilities like Darnold did. If Sam wants to come back on a team-friendly deal I'd be open to it, but if he wants to be paid like a top 10 QB then he is free to get his bag on the market and see how he does in a lesser environment. We need a new interior OL, at least 2 CBs, and an interior pass rushers and we won't be finding most of that in the draft. Ultimately, I will trust in what O'Connell and the front office decide on. And what happens in the playoffs.
