  1. I would put Sabato's chances ahead of McCusker's, but I think the comparison holds given that their power is their primary path to any kind of relevance in the majors. I was referring more to the Twins internal prospect list and if he had garnered any top 100 interest, I don't believe he ever cracked the Twins top 10 list unless I remember incorrectly? Fangraphs had him at #33 in 2021, unrated in 2022... That doesn't match my criteria for a top prospect.
  2. Good stuff, I'd like to see more articles like this covering prospects who don't quite make it. I don't think Severino was ever a "top prospect" and even when he was mashing there were still strikeout and defensive issues to consider. And it seems to me that power-first / power-only prospects have a hard time making the jump. Only a month or two ago there was clamoring for Carson McCusker, and now that's died down. Now there's interest in Sabato getting a shot - That's not to say I'm not in favor of giving guys chances, but every year we have guys rake at AAA and it doesn't translate. For those who remember the Adam Brett Walker craze... that was certainly an interesting time to be a Twins Daily reader.
  3. Beating the Rays and Cubs in back-to-back series is very nice, you just wish they hadn't gone into a tumble in June to put their record in a bad spot.
  4. Given how much rope this team has given struggling vets, I doubt it. And France has earned some rope with the highlights he's made in the first half of this season compared to other lame duck vets of the past.
  5. I just saw a list of NFL career earnings, and saw a lot of former and current Vikings high on the list - so here's a quick compilation. I betcha you'll be surprised by some of these. nfltraderumors.co/nfl-career-earnings-leaders/ QBs #6 - Kirk Cousins $293M #25 - Brett Favre $141M RBs #1 - Adrian Peterson $102M #17 - Aaron Jones $50M FBs #4 - CJ Ham $15M #8 - Jerome Felton $12M WRs #5 - Stefon Diggs $140M #22 - Randy Moss $85M #24 - Adam Thielen $82M TEs #13 - Kyle Rudolph $60M #19 - TJ Hockenson $50M Ts #25 - Cam Robinson $72M Gs #16 - Steve Hutchinson $55M DTs #12 - Javon Hargrave $96M #15 - Jonathan Allen $91M #21 - Linval Joseph $72M EDs #7 - Danielle Hunter $143M #22 - Jared Allen $93M LBs #13 - Anthony Barr $63M #18 - Eric Kendricks $56M CBs #5 - Stephon Gilmore $115M Ss #1 - Harrison Smith $104M Ks #23 - Daniel Carlson $19M #24 - Dan Bailey $19M
  6. Nice to see Raya pitching like an actual starter, but if a move to the bullpen isn't happening then he needs a lot more seasoning at AAA before coming to the majors. Otherwise he's going to be giving the Twins 3-4 inning starts with a lot of runs given up... the kid still has an ERA of 6.50 even after putting together a few good starts. Hard to see the Twins abandoning the plan on Prielipp as a starter with their history of keeping prospects as starters until they fail in the majors. Rodriguez's power "is real" despite 4 HRs in 160 PAs in a hitter-friendly league? I'd wait until he is really dominating to call him up. And Walker Jenkins is 20 and only has 110 PAs at AA under his belt. Maybe we can talk about a September call-up in 2026, but there is no need to rush him. The kid only just cracked 600 PAs in the minors!
  7. I can believe that there is an offer on the table... but it's probably too low for the Pohlads to accept or they would have already taken it. But as noted, Walters' rumors haven't been any more accurate than the random scuttlebutt we kick around online.
  8. Wallner's numbers are eerily close to Joey Gallo's, especially when it comes to lack of RBIs. I do think just looking at OPS/OPS+ can be misleading when it comes to power hitters. Brooks Lee has a similar OBP and batting average about .070 higher but a lower OPS due to power, but his RBI rate is quite a bit better. Say what you will about singles-only hitters, singles move baserunners better than walks do and create more runs over the long stretch. I do think the strikeout rate staying stable and the BABIP being oddly low are signs that if they keep giving him PAs in the majors that he will rebound. Defensively, I'm less sure about him. I do wish they would have decided to move one of these bigger OFs like him or Larnach to 1B and solved that issue instead of making France a starter in 99% of their games.
  9. Y'know, I heard Gabriel Gonzalez is having a good season in the minors, can't wait to see him help the team in 2028!
  10. This team is randomly clutch quite often... one day they can be getting dominated by a soft-tossing lefty and then suddenly kick it into gear against high leverage relievers. They are a hot-and-cold lineup!
  11. It looks like Jax and Duran were used early to take on Tampa's #1-5 hitters.
  12. If he ever makes it at the MLB level it'll be as a reliever, but they continue to delude themselves (like with other past prospects) that he might just make it as a starter. Meanwhile they should be focusing on getting him to work in the bullpen.
  13. Paddack looking really good against a great lineup so far.
  14. I hope that is true, this organization has been bereft of international prospects making any impact whatsoever since the Falvey regime took over.
  15. Doesn't feel like they should have won that one... guess we'll take it!
  16. Heck of a start from Ryan... he deserves an All-Star nod. Too bad the hitters couldn't support him.
  17. Apparently the Dolphins talked Darren Waller out of retirement to be their starting TE, so they're sending a conditional 7th rounder to the Giants for his rights. Definitely not what I was expecting them to do...
  18. I don't think Ramsey had that much value, there was talk he could be cut due to lack of interest. Getting a quality starting safety in his prime is nice, but they also had to move Jonnu Smith who was their second best receiving weapon last year. The Steelers liked him enough to give him a 1/$12M extension right after the trade - apparently Miami didn't want to extend him so that's why they shipped him off. Ironically it was the Dolphins trading away Minkah Fitzpatrick that signaled their dedication to the tank, getting a 1st for him... only a year after taking him in the 1st round. It's pretty bad, but McDaniel has had a tendency to not utilize his TEs at times. In 2023 their starting TE was a blocking-only TE in Durham Smythe, and they went into 2024 with only Jonnu Smith ahead of him - which before his surprising offensive explosion looked like another year of them waving the white flag on the position.
  19. This regime has only spent one top 30 pick on a pitcher since 2017 and that indeed was Petty. Within the first 5 rounds since then, they've had exactly zero successes for starting pitchers (with the jury being out on the recent classes). As for the bullpen with first 5 rounds, Cole Sands is the only success. They prioritize hitters in the draft (and the results are a mixed bag if you're being charitable) and have forced themselves to hit on late picks to find starters but have mostly found arms that can work as solid relievers. That plus having zero successes the last decade with international pitching prospects, the strategy leaves them with no path to finding high end of the rotation pitching. Obviously it's a hard thing to develop, but is it really surprising that this strategy has yielded minimal results?
  20. I'm actually working on an article of my own as a response to the recent Pitching Pipeline article... documenting all of the pitching prospects we've had since 2017. You can imagine what the conclusion will be.
  21. It helps that they have developed their own pitching. They spent some of their high 1st round picks on pitching whereas we almost never do... the one time Falvine spent a high pick on a starter with ace potential they immediately traded him away (Chase Petty for Sonny Gray).
  22. 3 hits and 3 Ks for Jax - end of the day, I'd trust him in situations like this even with the rough outings this year.
  23. Nice to see Festa have a very solid start, looks like he won the battle of Twins prospect vs former prospect.
