Look, in some cases I agree, but this is Rooker's first full season in the minors and he's only had 322 PAs against upper minors pitching. I don't think 2018 is the time for Rooker's debut. Though I'm glad we're having this conversation at all; early in the season Rooker was struggling big-time and one poster didn't consider Rooker a prospect anymore. I'm glad we're past that.

Article: MIL 2, MIN 0: Strikeouts Galore
Danchat replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Absolutely agreed, Vargas isn't hitting at AAA, so why would he hit better against major league pitching? The DH solution isn't in the current organization, but I would be fine if Morrison was DFA'd. -
It's probably more about A) Rooker not being quite ready for the majors and not wanting to start his 'option clock' until 2019. I'd settle for seeing him get some AAA PAs this season.

Article: The Time to Trade Kyle Gibson Is Now
Danchat replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We don't have control of Gibson in 2020, so it's really just the 2019 season you're risking without Gibson. -
How can you call the Nunez-Mejia trade "not very good"? Oh, you mean for the Giants, right? It's far too early to call Mejia a failure - the Giants got 2 months out of Nunez for Mejia, how was that a better trade? And how was the Nolasco/Santiago trade a failure? Alex Meyer was no longer a prized prospect and his shoulder went kaput - he's probably going to miss all of both the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the same surgery that virtually ended Glen Perkins' career. The Twins at least got Busenitz out of that trade, who may not amount to much, but losing Meyer has not harmed the Twins.

But I thought real teams gave out multi-year deals to relievers? What gives? I still think it was a good deal to nab Reed on, and he was lights-out in April, but then he was overused and now even when properly rested, he's struggling. If his velocity is down (I've heard from some here that it is), then maybe a DL stint would help him.

Article: CHC 10, MIN 6: Hey, Remember Joe Mauer?
Danchat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If anything, Belisle would be a guy to eat the innings that Duke/Rodney would get after they get traded... he has zero trade value and it would take a huge turnaround for him to be worth anything. This guy couldn't get a major league deal after what he did last year, so if anybody wants him, they'll get him when he's DFA'd. -

I'm fine with Busenitz getting ferried between the majors and AAA, but at the expense of Belisle? After winning a game? Blech. -
Maybe it isn't Molitor - take a look at our new Front Office
Danchat commented on mikelink45's blog entry in mikelink45's Blog
Just wanted to do a little critiquing here... what's with the comparison of Mauer to Goldschmidt? They're not even close to being the same player at this point. I don't care that Rodney is 41 - he pitches like he's 28 with his stuff still at high speeds. Sure, he's not a "future" piece, but weren't we trying to win this season? He helped accomplish that goal. Signing Belisle though... that has no defense. He's washed up and has nothing left in his arm and everyone knows it. Shouldn't we let Gordon work things out in the minors until he's ready? We've shot flak at the FO before for calling up prospects before they were ready, so perhaps we should try to be patient. Adrianza has done a solid job holding down SS compared to how most of us thought he'd play. I really liked the FO's moves over the offseason, even if they're being retroactively viewed as bargain bin moves. Clearly we should have given Darvish $22M+ over 6 years, right? My current problem with the FO is their apathy and lack of proactiveness. Why is Bobby Wilson and Belisle still on the roster? Grossman's bat has regressed and he has no defensive position - he's a AAA player now. A lot of these guys look like they belong in the minors, and I wish there's something we could do to get some awful hitters out of the lineup. -

Motter was placed on the 7 day DL (concussion). Not sure who they can call up. Polanco will be back in 3-5 days, so maybe Austudillo as a INF/C? -

Really? Oh... well that's dumb. I always thought you could. He defended a 1 run lead to win the game, that should be a save, but I guess that's not how it works. -
Article: Deadline Doesn't Make Deals Imminent for Twins
Danchat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah, but it was a salary buyout. They gave up a draft pick for about $8M of Hughes' deal. He was at least in the bullpen and appearing in actual games, which Santana has yet to do. I guess I could see him get flipped for a lottery ticket at the end of August but methinks they're not moving him while he's rehabbing. -

I don't see how Santana is getting traded, even before the August waiver deadline. He can't hit 90 mph right now and he'd be lucky to pitch in September at this point. -
Article: MIN 2, CHW 1: Walking Away With a Win
Danchat replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, it was nice to see Odorizzi rebound from his last outing and go 6 scoreless. I do think he can be a #4 starter but his past 5 starts had been bad, so maybe he's rebounding? It was against a White Sox lineup that hit very well the past two games. Can we be done with Bobby Wilson as the backup catcher now? Our AAA team has 4 catchers (if you're counting Astudillo as one), can we at least try someone else? We need a starter for tomorrow, so hopefully we can see Belisle DFA'd to get Slegers up... Mejia is only on 3 days rest, so I don't think he'll start tomorrow's game. Good to see Busenitz get the win and the save, hopefully he can get comfortable facing MLB pitching and stick on the roster. Though I've probably jinxed him and now he's getting shipped to AAA, isn't he? -
It's been reported that Stewart has indeed been promoted to AAA. With a 4.76 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, you can't really say he's deserved it, but I guess they might as well give him a shot. He's at least had the ability to strike guys out back (9.4 K/9), but I have no idea what he projects as a major leaguer. I know it's early, but maybe his future is in the bullpen?

After Rap Debut, Nick Gordon Has Twins Debut In SIght
Danchat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah, with Escobar and Dozier potentially goners by July 31st, I would hope to see Gordon come up in August. I'd like to see how he adjusts to major league pitching and take things slow - I'd like to find out what the Twins might need to do over the offseason at the infield positions, and Gordon will be a factor in some capacity.- 20 replies

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Sell, Sell, Sell?
Danchat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It feels like it's been this way for the past 4-6 years for this team. They're sellers at the deadline but they don't have any good pieces to sell - again! I really wish this franchise would have hit the reset button a la Houston/several others 3-5 years back. We kept holding onto guys like Perkins, Dozier, Willingham, Santana because "we can't trade the only good players on the team!" -
I think it's time for Mejia to get called up and stay up for good. The problem is that if you want him to start on Friday, he'd be losing a day of rest, so Slegers might be the better fit to get that start.

Article: Week in Review: Sinking Ship
Danchat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins needed Petit's roster spot when they signed Belisle (* vomits *) and they had claimed Motter off waivers hoping they could do something with him. The Motter experiment will be over in about a week when Polanco returns, so I don't think there's any merit getting Petit back up here. We can bring him back up if another infielder gets injured.- 36 replies

So does that mean Romero is back to being a prospect now that he's headed to AAA? Did he hit that certain inning threshold? Good stuff from Kiriloff, it's great to see him play so well after not playing at all in 2017. I think he's going to be a very good player in the majors, I'm just not sure the Twins are the right team to develop him... their track record with outfield prospects panning out just isn't that good. Hopefully Gordon can have more of these 3 for 4 games and force his way to the majors at some point. I would like to see him get some MLB experience under his belt so he can potentially make the 2019 roster.

Article: TEX 9, MIN 6: Odorizzi Lays an Egg
Danchat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yikes... Texas is clearly hot right now (7 straight wins), but something's wrong with Odorizzi. First 11 starts: 3.34 ERA Last 5 starts: 9.90 ERA Maybe a trip to the DL would help? As a professional armchair GM, here's the moves I would make: DFA Belisle, Wilson, Grossman. DL Odorizzi if something is wrong with him. Call up Busenitz, Rupp (added to 40 man), Cave, and Duffey (if Odor on DL). When Odorizzi's spot in the rotation comes around again, option Duffey back for Mejia/Slegers (whoever's rested at that point). Other: Morrison is nearing the point where I would give up on him. He's getting DFA'd / traded for cash in a couple weeks if he isn't hitting better. Motter will be DFA'd when Polanco arrives.- 22 replies

Article: The Gib is Up, Kyle Is For Real
Danchat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not sure if looking at just 2018's stats for this trio is a good day to measure them as prospects. Mejia still profiles as a #5 pitcher. Littell's one bad MLB start isn't going to affect his future. Gonsalves does have some control issues but I still think he's going to be OK, it just seems like he'll need more time in the minors than anticipated. -
It seems like Molitor has learned his lesson with Reed... not sure about Pressly though. He might need a quick trip to the DL for rest.

Article: The Gib is Up, Kyle Is For Real
Danchat replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, I definitely did not see this happening to Gibson this season. I thought he was toast last season, but he's a whole different pitcher now. I wonder if Garvin Alston is responsible for some of these changes to his approach? I'm liking him so far as the pitching coach. Well, they definitely could. I do think I see one of our starters being traded by the time the 2019 season starts, but they'd have to get something good for Gibby. We still have another year of control of him so I think I'd prefer to hang on to him, but if someone offers a strong package I'd pull the trigger.
