  1. I will miss Dozier, as he's been one of my favorite Twins of all time. But it's been a difficult season, and I can't argue with him being traded to a contender - I hope he can help the Dodgers. I'll be proud to keep wearing my Dozier jersey around and remember some of the great hits he had. Here's hoping the Twins can find some more unlikely gems in the rough like Dozier. Now, onto other matters, I wonder if Rosario or Berrios will become the "face" of the Twins now that Brian's gone.
  2. Nice outing from Mejia, hopefully he can finish the season strong and solidify his spot on the roster for next season. I would be totally fine if he was next year's #5 starter.
  3. I think it’s time Reed got a shot in the majors. I’m also curious about Anderson getting a chance too.
  4. It sounds like the Yankees are going to use Lynn as the long reliever and that's why they moved on from Adam Warren... which still puzzles me because they're giving a very good reliever in Warren to the Mariners, who are direct competition to them, but whatever, hopefully it backfires. Lynn should be better as a long reliever, though.
  5. I predict tonight is Dozier's last game as a Twin. I think Lynn is as good as gone too... but I think Ervin and Rodney won't be moved yet. And I don't think Gibby is going anywhere.
  6. Eh, that's about what I expected from Duke, who hasn't been that great anyways (check out his WHIP), but as Tom mentions, if a manager uses him better, he could be a solid weapon. De Jong looks like a guy you try out as a reliever and if it doesn't work, DFA him. It's certainly worth a try to fix the guy. Costello looks like a fun story and maybe he could beat the odds and become an MLB player. I like his odds better than the Twins making the postseason in 2018, that's for sure. What I can't figure out for the life of me is why the Yankees would trade Adam Warren to the Mariners. He's got a 2.70 ERA with great peripherals (11 K/9!!). Someone's gonna have to explain this one to me.
  7. Well, you'll have to get the presses ready for the other Surrender shirts for GMs. The Cardinals are above .500 and they're selling, I guess I'll make a Mike Girsch I Surrender t-shirt as well. I don't have any problems with surrendering at this point. This team (and last year's team) is clearly not ready to contend. Yeah, it sucks that they aren't and it's on the FO that this team wasn't competitive this season. We are 8 games below .500 and 9 games out; we are not a contender, and thus, trading away assets makes sense. I mean, unless you'd like Escobar to play baseball here in August and September for some reason, but my focus would be on winning the World Series, and Escobar being on a below .500 team in 2018 isn't pushing towards that goal. Acquiring 3 prospects for that much of Eddie at least gives us a chance to have players can that can contribute in seasons where we are competitive - yes, I know that doesn't push the needle much, but it's better than sitting on your hands and letting Escobar finish the 2018 season in Minnesota.
  8. They now have a losing record against Boston (3-4) and they're 2-1 against Houston, so that doesn't mean a whole lot. It is odd how they haven't played their best against the AL Central outside of Cleveland...
  9. I wonder where the five new kids rank in the top 30/50 prospects? Would Alcala fit in somewhere between 11-15 (I think he's a better prospect than Wade but not sure about Thorpe)?
  10. Can I ask why? They're trading 2 months of Escobar for 3 prospects. Why do we need to keep Eduardo here for the next two months? The likelihood of us catching the Indians is slim to none. Now Eddie gets to play for a contender and we get some lottery tickets who could help us in the future. I don't see what the problem is. Escobar can still be re-signed, but it's also possible they don't plan on bringing him back, so at least they've got something for him.
  11. It's a bit sad to see two guys who overcame the odds go. Pressly had to spend the entire 2013 season on the roster as a Rule 5 pick, and he was able to stick around and he's improved in leaps and bounds. Escobar was considered the equivalent of a bag of baseballs when he was acquired. They'll go down as two success stories from the second Terry Ryan era that didn't have enough success stories. Here's hoping that Pressly can find his groove and dominate for the Astros in the playoffs. I'd love to see him shut down the Yankees/Red Sox in a late game situation - when Pressly is hot, nobody hits off of him. Hopefully Houston will utilize him better than Molitor has.
  12. Duke or Magill probably should have thrown the 9th or 10th... Man, I love Rosario. The dude brings the game back with an incredibly-clutch double and then does his best Nolan Arenado impression on the first groundball he's ever seen as a 3B. Insanity. With Escobar gone and Dozier scuffling, he's probably my favorite Twin at this point. At least the Twins are standing up to MLB's best team and giving them what-for, and that's better than I expected. Tomorrow we should actually be able to play with a 25 man roster instead of 23...
  13. You picked a good day to write/release this article SD Buhr. Impeccable timing.
  14. They're clearly selling, but that doesn't mean they have to get worse. You can replace Dozier, Lynn, Rodney, and some of the others. I think they can finish around .500, but I don't see them catching the Indians, and even if they do, they're getting destroyed in the playoffs. The Twins can go ahead and keep winning, but I'd like to figure out who I want on this team in 2019 and who I don't. I want to see the Twins put together a team that can legitimately challenge the Yankees and Astros but I don't see that happening this season - going to the playoffs is cool and all, but it seems like Minnesota sports teams don't have trouble getting there, but once they do they get their butts kicked. BTW I'd hold onto Gibson and Pressly but that doesn't mean I'm not listening to trade offers. I think we need both for the 2019 season and they're not going to be replaced for cheap.
  15. I will miss Escobar and his solid hitting, especially in clutch situations. Pretty crazy how he hit 20+ HRs last season for a guy of whom nobody thought he could hit. Long live the Eddie 400! I don't quite understand the disappointment here. They're trading 2 months of Escobar for 3 lottery tickets - none of them look that great and I do wish we got one that was in the high minors, but Escobar as a rental wasn't going to get a boatload. I think some here raised their expectations too high with all of the projected trades and what-not.
  16. It's cool that the Twins are beating up on some of the bad teams... Toronto's roster looks a lot worse than their record implies IMO. I still fully expect the Twins to trade some players within the week. I don't suspect the Twins match up to the Red Sox like they did in the last series. I mean, sure, someone will probably take Lynn and give you a non-prospect for him. The Twins are probably better off starting Mejia, and I can't imagine teams vying for the postseason would want him when there are better options out there.
  17. Magill still exists, it's been confirmed. I thought he might have phased from reality somehow. Belisle is weird... he gets a lot of swings and misses with a 90-91 MPH fastball and he's seemingly decent with enough rest. However, just like in 2017, he has a penchant to completely implode and give up a ton of runs, and we're just left waiting until that happens. Still, he should be elsewhere and this team should be getting younger, not older.
  18. Good recap, Nick. It's been announced that Ervin will be starting the Wednesday game in Toronto, and it's likely Mejia will be heading back to AAA after his start tomorrow instead of sticking around for another start in Boston.
  19. We need to get Matt Magill's picture on some milk cartons or he's never going to be found. The dude has pitched 8 times since the start of June... after pitching 11 times in May. Hopefully some trades will be coming soon just to keep things interesting.
  20. BTW, Astudillo is being optioned to AAA and Morrison is being activated. Hopefully Logan will either hit or be sent packing as I'd really rather see anyone else get PAs. I imagine Motter gets DFA'd next when Santana is activated to be the 5th starter. Mejia comes to start, actually.
  21. Yeah, it stinks that we gave up two runs there, but the offense had plenty of chances to hit in some more runs and the pitching could have prevented some. The game was certainly not over when they happened.
  22. We've seen it time and time again from this FO? From what we know, Falvey/Levine have made zero efforts to extend Dozier and I think I can say with relative confidence that they don't want him back. I believe there's a high chance he's traded by/on July 31st.
  23. Good point, when the Twins were terrible in 2016, it was known that they were dangling him out to other teams. From what we know, there wasn't much interest in a very good 2B with 2 more years of cheap control. All I know is that they got a mediocre to okay offer from the Dodgers - so why are teams going to give us anything good for him now? There is a much higher demand for 2B than there was back in 2016 but for a 2 month rental the Twins aren't going to get very much for him.
  24. My problem with Dozier is that the past three weeks have been so good it’s masking the previous three months of bad baseball from him. Yes, he’ll probably finish hitting .240 with 30 HRs, but he’s part of the reason why the Twins are in a hole right now.
  25. Well, he's assuming Sano's at his lowest... in the last calendar year his bat has turned from All-Star caliber to Mendoza line hitter who would set the new single season for strikeouts if he got the chance, his defense has been subpar, he was accused of assaulting a woman, he's failed to lose [enough] weight, he got injured again, he's playing at A+ right now... Sure, it could get worse, but I'd have to imagine this is his lowest. Selling him within the next 8-10 months is not a good idea.
