I agree. And you know what Paddack might still be helpful. It would not be shocking if we saw a starter injury in spring training or early in the season and then we will be happy we have some depth. I like Festa but Mathews and beyond are complete unknowns from a perspective of big league performance.

Yep. The idea that Paddack is just going to parked in a closet somewhere is silly. He will be a starter until he is hurt or traded. At this point there isn’t even room for him in the pen. And I’m not a fan either.

So what are you going to do with Paddack and his $7.5 million guaranteed contract? Cut him?

As always keep running him out there and see what he can do. Perhaps he ends up being a long man in the pen. If his max outing would be 3 innings he could juice the fastball a little. This is a perfect example of what many posters have advocated: take a decent starter who may struggle in the bigs and proactively make him an investment in the pen.

2025 Twins Prospect Previews: Billy Amick
Linus replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Thanks for these articles as it’s interesting to get a more in-depth look at the prospects. I particularly liked the more objective analysis. Amick is a real lottery ticket in that he will end up at first or DH so he is going to need to really step it up as a hitter. He does have power so that is your first criteria for those spots. The Twins should move him to first right now so that if he does hit he may be able to offer competent defense at first. Good luck to him and hope he starts mashing. -
Keep him healthy and challenge with AA hitters to start the season. Assuming health and success move him to AAA in June. If he succeeds there he is next man up for the Twins in either role. I don’t care if he can only go 3-4 innings as a starter tell one of the 15 expendable arms that the first guy to throw two inning competently gets a piggyback job. If it’s in the pen that is fine too. If he stays healthy he can start next year. If his talent comes through then you figure out a way to get him big league innings and if you are so rigid in your thinking that you can’t do that then you need to be replaced.

This is from memory so chime in if I’m wrong but it seemed like Royce’s throwing problems were primarily concentrated mid- August to mid-September or so. Don’t recall him struggling with the arm before that although the action on his throwing looks forced at times, not athletic. It’s almost like he is trying to throw like C4 and its not comfortable. Julien has lots to prove on both sides of the ball. I’m not giving up on him but not counting on him either. Start him in St. Paul and see what he can do. I would also have him playing a lot of first base. i believe Lee will be fine at second with the glove but has to prove he is a MLB hitter. He might have to start in St. Paul which means your starting second baseman is Castro which is fine. I’m on record as saying Miranda should be playing first. If you are going to be sub-par then give the experience to a guy who will be here next year.

Paddack will be in there as he is under contract. Sim should be the choice even though Festa has more upside Sim gives us a better chance to win the first part of the season. As we know injuries will solve this problem soon enough.

Make Or Break Players On the 2025 Twins: Louis Varland
Linus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Especially that most look they have more upside than Varland. -
Make Or Break Players On The 2025 Twins: Brooks Lee
Linus replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well isn’t it on us to not go for that crap? When was the last time you read a critical piece on a Twins prospect on this site? Most of the time the info provided on the prospect profiles (which I enjoy very much) does not mesh with independent scouting reports. The funny thing is posters will talk about “the Twins” talking up prospects which I rarely hear the FO do. It’s all fan stuff going nuts over their next perceived savior. -
Ive seen scouts say that top level D1 baseball is roughly equivalent to A ball or even A+ ball (high A doesn’t make sense to me). Who knows how accurate that is but certainly guys succeeding at high D1 are far more advanced than high school players. I couldn’t agree more with the rest of your post. It happens so frequently that it should be common knowledge.

Make Or Break Players On the 2025 Twins: Louis Varland
Linus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Varland hasn’t shown anything in the bigs to be considered a starter. I don’t know there is any point in to continuing down that road, especially since he is 27 or 28? In the pen he has shown promise for an inning as he cranks up the fastball to 99. Then he starts to go downhill. My dream for him and the Twins is for him is to forget the change and two seamer and really try to add a slider that has enough bite and more of a difference mph wise from the fastball. Next I would have him try to hold back on the four seam - maybe 97 and see If that would allow him to go 2 or 3 innings something the Twins have needed for a long time. As we have seen with Alcala and others being decent for one inning only really limits value. -
I loved this pick by the Twins even with the injury concerns. Sometimes you just have to chase the ceiling, especially with high picks. I also agree with others that we will know a lot more this year as he faces high minors competition. If he dominates upper minors and earns a call up bring him up as a starter and let him pitch 4 innings and have someone designated to piggy back him. I’ll take the quality over quantity.

Make Or Break Players On The 2025 Twins: Brooks Lee
Linus replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I excepted Lewis and Lee wasn’t on my list. No serious baseball person compared Lewis to Trout. None of the rest of those guys were that highly regarded. One source of the difference of our opinions might be that I don’t consider prospect lists as indicative of much. Regardless I think we are in agreement on the main point which is the Twins are not producing enough ball players that could be considered difference makers. I respect your opinions. -
Make Or Break Players On The 2025 Twins: Brooks Lee
Linus replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t believe serious baseball people considered any of those guys were can’t miss or anbove anverage every day players except Lewis. Fans get way ahead of themselves when it comes to prospects - they provide an addictive drug called hope. It’s the second string quarterback syndrome - I call it Prospect Puppy Love. Fact is most prospects fail even guys that have some success at AAA. This is especially true when they are defensively flawed and aren’t particularly athletic. So yea I do believe they are inherently flawed fielders because they don’t possess the attributes to be anything else. I do agree if they focused on one position they would be better than they are now. -
Make Or Break Players On The 2025 Twins: Brooks Lee
Linus replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lee was the wrong choice to the subject of this article when we have several others who are truly in a make or break season. Miranda, Larnach, Martin, Julien for sure and then to a lesser extent you have Wallner and Lewis. And the bar to clear is going to somewhat high because none of these guys are great fielders and most are slow or slowish runners. I still maintain that this has to be the year these guys step up or step down. We have to get these answers if we are going to take a decisive step forward. -
I won’t speak for others but I’m guessing many of us would have far less angst about bringing in France, Bader etc. if it was truly best man wins the playing time. The Twins seem to rely on what their analytics tell them over actual performance (at least sometimes) and it leads to head scratching decisions.

This. I don’t mind platooning for the start of the game or at the end of the game when appropriate. It’s the 5th inning move that I dislike.

Currently in Vegas… Tell me your crazy MLB parlays
Linus replied to Vanimal46's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
3 way parlay: Buxton, Correa and Lewis all play 110 or more games. Should get some nice odds on that. I would take the over at 83.5 big time. I know we are all frustrated with the off season but this club does have some upside. -
