    Pros scouts have estimated that power 5 conference baseball is at a level between low A and high A. More and more of the best players are going to college and most of the drafted college players played three years. So the point from a draft and development standpoint is that if you are successful enough in college to get drafted you should succeed quickly in A ball because you’ve essentially already done that. Thats why I don’t really pay any attention to a college guy having success in low or high A ball. It would be more noteworthy if they didn’t.

    Can anyone recall if other teams were known to be pursuing Berrios? Probably yes? That would be the real losing aspect is if they passed up different deals where the players were better.

    Kody is a useful player. It’s impressive that he plays multiple defensive positions better than some can play only one. It would be perfectly fine to keep him if no team is offering anything of value in trade. If there is a team offering a reliever with upside you have to trade him. This team as currently constructed is going nowhere, this year or next. Change has to occur if we want to break this cycle.

    I don’t fault the Twins for trying to get Martin to hit for more power. I think people read that and see home run. I think they were just trying to get him to be able to hit some doubles so pitchers couldn’t just go right after him like they are doing now.

    I see lots of suggestions to move him to first. That would be a mistake in my opinion. He has great athletic ability and should stay as high on the defensive spectrum as possible. If you have a chance to be a plus CF you don’t move him to first. Of course, he has to hit for any of it to matter. I know lots of people don’t want him playing SS but this isn’t an Austin Martin situation who was never going to be a SS. Winokur has all the tools to be a good SS and if he shows that he becomes that much more valuable to the Twins or to another organization as a trade chip. As we’ve seen, there aren’t many guys with the tools to be a legit SS so they become inherently valuable.

    I have no idea how it would go. I do know that Martin, who I consider an average defender, has made numerous plays that Wallner would not. Kind of illustrates the difference of having even adequate defenders out there.

    Put him on the IL and get him fully healthy.

    To me it’s just about command. It’s always been a little shaky so his margin for error is nil. Until that changes he’s likely to be very streaky.

    I guess we are going to find out if Royce is fixed. I do like that they seem to be trying to assemble an optimal infield.

    Damn Apple TV game. The small fortune I pay to watch the Twins is apparently not enough.

    I think he gets a little more time because he is young and a good athlete. His arm is a problem- he is far enough past the injuries that what you see is what you get.

    This is reasonable. I think Lee is as good as Royce defensively at third - not as athletic but steadier. At the end of today there is a very good chance one of them doesn’t hit enough to be a starter and that will make the final decision. For whatever reason Lee doesn’t look as comfortable at second to my eye.

    Apparently they have determined Mendez is not a first baseman. I was hopeful.

    Brought in to bolster the bullpen you say. They can’t get rid of this guy fast enough.

    The confidence factor is overrated. Everyone, including Royce, knows that true confidence is gained by big league success not by mashing AAA pitching. It’s great that he is clubbing some homers but that “confidence” will go away in a hurry when big league pitchers start eating away at weaknesses he hasn’t fixed.

    Official scoring is a joke. They should just do away with it as it doesn’t really represent anything.

    No. The man is free to do what he wants. Showing respect to another player doesn’t bother me at all.
