In a word....NO. We've seen him as a starter and it was....not very good.

People keep barking about what we got for Polanco. Do we all realize that if the Twins see him as valuable they can get him back....and cheap? He's a FA. Maybe HE'S the second basemen next year. At the time the Twins thought they were getting a solid reliever in Topa and a Top 100 prospect in Gonzalez. DeSclafini was to even out the money as a throw-in. Hindsight is always 20-20. But at the time I though it was a steal for one year of Polanco.

Thanks Nick. Always enjoy the work. I love content like this. I'm sick of hearing about "right-sized payrolls", crappy TV deals, Correa trade rumors, tone-deaf owners, etc.. GIve me content that shows the glass is still way more than half full for this team. Love the inclusion of Keaschall on this list. With the talk of what they will do at 2B, his name rarely seems to come up. This organization will only go as far as their player development can take them and if he looks ready in ST I see no reason to not give him a shot.

To me, the Prielipp pick has always seemed like Falvey trying to outsmart everyone. I get that he was a first-round talent that they got later, but I'd still just rather take a still talented player that was actually healthy. Sort of like I'd rather see Falvey just get pitchers that are actually healthy instead of hoping to find value in arms depreciated in value b/c they've been hurt.

I'm going to bang this drum until proven wrong. Move Canterino to the bullpen and see if that allows him to stay healthy.

Two things. 1) This might be the case right up until Joey's mandated cost cutting means they have to trade Correa. 2) It explains why they brought in new hitting coaches to provide a better offensive approach b/c the production sure didn't match up with this kind of ranking

Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Chris Paddack
HerbieFan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Given that the club was acting like a mid-market one, the signing of Correa was a HUGE win. In hind sight, acquiring Paddock made sense given the extreme cost of starting pitching....if you get 10-15 starts for $7 million is cost-effective. Unfortunately, Joe Pohlad decided to "right-size" the payroll before putting the team up for sale. Now, the FO is stuck trying to adjust on the fly. So we get Correa trade rumors. Rather than simply put Paddock in the bullpen (a place that I think he could be very productive and MAYBE stay healthier), they're stuck trying to move him (a move that will likely cost them a prospect in the 20-25 range). Thanks Joe. -

3 Pitching Prospects Who Can Impact the 2025 Twins
HerbieFan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I'm not sure if a pitcher can lack durability to be a starter but CAN have durability to be a 75-appearance bullpen guy. People smarter than me can figure that out. But I've often wondered if Prielipp and Matt Canterino could be just that. It certainly would be a good way to get valuable production out of two of their better arms.- 31 replies

It didn't seem like the organization had him prepared at all to play in the outfield. I think he's best suited (his ceiling?) as a 4th outfielder who can play CF and LF/pinch runner

Should the Twins Sell High on José Miranda?

I don't know that trading him now would be selling "high". -
Twins Announce GM Thad Levine Will Not Return for 2025
HerbieFan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for everything Thad (seriously). Given the constraints put on you by Joe Pohlad, I'd jump ship too. Good luck to you- 122 replies

Can The Twins Trust José Miranda? And If So, How Much?
HerbieFan replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think it's the best route, but given Joe Pohlad's desire to save money, I'd bet it's a Miranda/Kiriloff platoon at 1B to start 2025.- 26 replies

Personally, I'd like to see the club move forward with Paddack in the bullpen. Maybe that would help him stay healthy. I'd sooner have 60 appearances and 75 innings of max stuff out of the bullpen from him. They'll have plenty of middling starting options next year between SWR, Festa, Matthews and possibly a low-cost/back of the rotation type FA....but one that's actually healthy, The late collapse and Joe Pohlad tightening the purse strings are disappointing. But the future of this team can still be good. Key to the rotation will be those three young starters taking another step.

Of the problems that need solving, catcher just doesn't seem near the top of the list for me. The electronic zone is coming IMHO...framing becomes obsolete.

Let's be honest. The major league club...playoffs or not, appears dead in the water. But it is a little bit exciting to think about the next couple years when they can run out Pablo/Ober/Ryan and then have young guys like Festa/Matthews/Raya, etc., coming behind them. Now, about that bullpen approach.....take a bunch of average guys (below average?) and try to use analytics to play matchups. Maybe some of the young arms can help them just actually have good relievers......

Max Kepler: A Minnesota Twins Era Nearing Its End
HerbieFan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When we're watching Matt Wallner patrol right field next year we're going to love the moon shot home runs....but we'll cringe at the average, at best, outfield defense. Personally, I really like Max Kepler. But I also get that it'll be time to move on to younger, cheaper talent.
