3 Roster Moves the Twins Need to Make Right Now
HerbieFan replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Since the club is still in the WC race, the only reason NOT to bring Culpepper and Jenkins up would be fear they can't produce at the level of the guys they'd be replacing in the lineup. As noted, the production of Kreidler and Roden would be hard NOT to improve on. The callups would be as much about making the 26-man better as it would giving them an opportunity. I can go either way on Wallner....the 20 HR are fun....but he's two shy of club record held by McCusker, so there's a big grain of salt there. Plus, he can't play defense and Bell is locked in as the DH. Jackson, at the very least, gives you some protection for Jeffers/Caratini injury.- 190 replies

Report: Rival Teams Expect Twins To Trade Ryan Jeffers
HerbieFan replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I keep racking my brain to try and find a reason why the best move is to keep him through this season. This is not a serious playoff team. It was never going to be a serious playoff team. They might make the playoffs, but. It's been a fun team to watch....they battle offensively and I'm shocked it's team within one game of .500. I just hate losing good players, but he's leaving anyway. I guess it would depend on the return....hopefully with Langeliers out of the picture it creates a mini bidding war for Jeffers. -

I think he's a middling mlb player at best. However, he has clearly been their best SS. Until Culpepper is ready to take that role, they should just run him out there everyday....hit him in the 8/9 hole and take what you can get offensively.

If they don't lose Paredes....and have to use Rojas for four innings yesterday I'm not sure Sands even gets activated. Guys like Jack Anderson and Eric Orze might give them a better chance right now, so could Sands be sent back to St.Paul to basically continue his rehab???

Twins Move On From Veteran Infielder Orlando Arcia
HerbieFan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Signing made some sense at the time....mlb veteran, utility depth, etc.. AAA at bats can go to younger guys the rest of the year. Could Marek Houston possibly be promoted to St. Paul if Culpepper comes over to Target Field? With Kreidler and Lee at the mlb level and Culpepper back playing at St.Paul the Twins should be fine. -
Is Zebby Matthews's Future in the Rotation?
HerbieFan replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't feel like his issue is stuff. It's more about location. 98 center cut gets killed in mlb. He'll make pitches that make you go wow...and then make a pitch that makes you go wow, what the heck was that? But, at some point he is who he is. I do think he'd make an excellent reliever whenever that time comes... -
They won't bring him up and start his major league service time clock unless he's going to play everyday....and they shouldn't. With the uncertainty surrounding whether there will be baseball in 2027, I fear they won't bring him up at all and keep from starting that clock until 2028.

If they're going to engage the Blue Jays in trade talks, maybe they can deal a high-upside LH pitcher and a "major league ready" left-handed hitting corner outfielder for Varland! :)

It's Now or Never for Alan Roden

Another reminder of the clusterbleep that was the Varland trade. Why trade him at all? Why trade for yet another left handed hitting corner outfielder? Thanks for that one Derek.... -
For me, it's #3. + This year has been a surprise but a lot of the players in the lineup are highish draft picks....it IS possible that some of these guys are hitting their prime and this is the beginning of a contending team. + Ryan clearly allows you to be better in 2026. + In 2027, the rotation can start with Ryan, Bradley, Ober, Abel. That's a pretty good start and includes a pair of really talented younger guys. It allows the FO the chance to be good in 2027. + If you hit the 2027 deadline and things haven't gotten to the point you hoped, then deal him. No, the package won't be as good as if you trade him this season. + Keeping him as long as possible sends a much better message to the fans but also to your entire roster. Something Derek Falvey clearly didn't consider when he traded away 10 players and any hope at last year's deadline.

This season has been a lot of fun after such low expectations. I just want them to commit to one or the other: 1) get a couple pieces to help this year. If you can get to a best of three series with Ryan and Taj in the first two games you have a punchers chance. 2) commit to 2027 and beyond. If that's the case then Jeffers, Larnach and Bell all get dealt.

Is there a point where we stop the Culpepper Watch and start the Marek Houston Watch????? In all seriousness, Houston's glove and, apparently his bat, make him the shortstop of the future.
