  1. Thanks for everything Thad (seriously). Given the constraints put on you by Joe Pohlad, I'd jump ship too. Good luck to you
  2. I don't think it's the best route, but given Joe Pohlad's desire to save money, I'd bet it's a Miranda/Kiriloff platoon at 1B to start 2025.
  3. Personally, I'd like to see the club move forward with Paddack in the bullpen. Maybe that would help him stay healthy. I'd sooner have 60 appearances and 75 innings of max stuff out of the bullpen from him. They'll have plenty of middling starting options next year between SWR, Festa, Matthews and possibly a low-cost/back of the rotation type FA....but one that's actually healthy, The late collapse and Joe Pohlad tightening the purse strings are disappointing. But the future of this team can still be good. Key to the rotation will be those three young starters taking another step.
  4. Of the problems that need solving, catcher just doesn't seem near the top of the list for me. The electronic zone is coming IMHO...framing becomes obsolete.
  5. Let's be honest. The major league club...playoffs or not, appears dead in the water. But it is a little bit exciting to think about the next couple years when they can run out Pablo/Ober/Ryan and then have young guys like Festa/Matthews/Raya, etc., coming behind them. Now, about that bullpen approach.....take a bunch of average guys (below average?) and try to use analytics to play matchups. Maybe some of the young arms can help them just actually have good relievers......
  6. I guess I figured Castro would settle in there once Correa comes back.
  7. When we're watching Matt Wallner patrol right field next year we're going to love the moon shot home runs....but we'll cringe at the average, at best, outfield defense. Personally, I really like Max Kepler. But I also get that it'll be time to move on to younger, cheaper talent.
  8. They gave up next to nothing, but the guy is no better than Josh Staumont had been. A head scratcher to be sure.
  9. Just put him in the bullpen if he comes back this year. Since they're stuck having to pay him in 2025, I'd start him out in the 'pen next year too.
  10. Ummm. Jack Morris was pretty ok in 1991 as well :)
  11. Lopez, Ryan, Ober, SWR are all under contract in 2025. Kids like this are the reason the FO isn't looking to add a pitcher at the deadline that would be on the payroll next year.
  12. With Varland and Paddack inevitably headed to the bullpen in 2024, Henriquez is an easy DFA for me. Unless they give Farmer the Joey Gallo treatment and put him on the 60 day IL with his "injury"
  13. Stewart, Topa, Varland (it's inevitable right?) and Paddack (also inevitable right?) strengthen the bullpen. Lewis, Correa and Miranda coming back solidify the lineup. What's left? Starting pitching (like every other playoff contender). If anyone thinks they're adding an impact starter they haven't been paying attention to what ownership is doing to tie the hands of the FO. My call? It's going to a back-of-the-rotation starter to help get the to the playoffs. One they can get cheap. Then they'll be forced to ride with Lopez/Ryan/Ober and hope for the best.
  14. Good lord....NO!!!! For the record, going old school, Rick Aguilera was also a "failed starter". Jax has worked hard to become maybe their best reliever (considering Duran's up and down performance in 2024), why mess with a good thing?????
  15. 1000% no chance that DeSclafini was the main piece. He was a salary throw in. Gonzalez and Topa were piece #1 and #2. I hated to see Polo go, but thought this was a really good get for a declining 2B. If Bowen ever contributes as a starter or as a reliever, so much the better.
  16. Huge ABs from Julien and Kiriloff. Great work by the bullpen. On Desclafini...he was basically a throw in to make money work. That trade was for Topa and the Mariners' #4(5?) prospect.
  17. Was interesting/surprising to see Margot at DH wasn't it? Castro in LF in game one. We'll find out soon if they think Martin is better in LF than Margot.
  18. Figured this would be the move. Miranda basically isn't throwing and has been working only at 1B. I assume this move means Willie Castro will see a bunch of 3B and Martin will play LF
  19. I coached HS baseball. How on EARTH do you have a kid who can throw mid-90s and NOT have him pitching?! :)
  20. 100%...wish he was a little better defender beyond the Howitzer of an arm. I really do think his bat and (more importantly) his approach will play. I really don't think OPS of .780+ with 25+ HR is out of the questions. Plus, with this lineup, he can hit in the lower half where he won't have too much pressure.
  21. I've lived in Minnesota all 56 years of my life. Been a die hard Minnesota sports fan. It really is amazing how we just expect the worst isn't it?? And I say that with a chuckle. Here's hoping Matt Wallner just is that good. 25-30 HR, .800+ OPS, etc..!!!!!!
  22. So St.Paul has Lee, Miranda, Martin, Larnach, Severino, Camargo in its lineup. Varland, SWR, Festa, Headrick, Canterino (??) in its rotation. Funderburk, Alcala, Sands, Canterino (??), etc in the bullen. On the surface that seems like a pretty good group of depth options across town.
