  1. This was the third pinch hit at bat for Vasquez this year (all hitless). I actually felt like it was more than that. Can't find data to determine if the opposing team in turn negated the platoon 'advantage'. That wasn't a back breaking AB, as there were plenty of miscues, but not even Baldelli truly thought that was a good idea, right?? Rocco doesn't shy away from providing evidence of mismanagement. I do try to look at the positives far more than the negatives and give him the benefit of the doubt, but come onnnnnn please make it easier for me...
  2. I have a hard time disagreeing with anything you say, if for no other reason than your username.
  3. I hear your argument, and I would love for it to be true, but you point out the exact circumstances upon which I made my statement. Gallo has not changed this year (with the exception of the first 3ish weeks of the season). He has been hardly playable, if at all, even when considering the injuries we've sustained. Yet he remains, despite the fact that roster spots are indeed valuable. I'm just pointing out something to be considered. Boras is the agent of Lewis, Jenkins, Kirilloff, Martin, Jeffers, and I think Soto (??), plus other Twins.
  4. Guys. The reason Gallo won't be DFAd is because he's a Boras client. That is it.
  5. I wonder if the Guardians are gonna get fined for this BS? There's no precedent of it, but this is anti competitive and gives the league a bad look. I think a rule barring this will come up. I can't imagine the players association liking this, either.
  6. This is disgusting. the Guardians and Francona especially should be ashamed of themselves.
  7. So at Lewis level of production, how many ABs do you think he'd need to be ROY? If Royce had as many at bats as Gunnar Henderson (639) he would top (though not by a lot) Henderson in categories like WAR, HR, RBI, SB, and OPS (and of course batting average and slugging). I'm on my phone so I didn't do a full Excel spreadsheet or anything lol I generally don't like what-ifs, but I wanted to do a quick comp for him. My goodness we need to keep him healthy. Also, I do believe that buying goodwill with Boras via Correa (and others) will be a valuable thing in the future.
  8. Lewis is doing his damnedest to make up for everyone else's RISP issues. I love watching his at bats a la 2019 Buxton.
  9. Jim Rice has the record with 36 and 35 in back-to-back years in the 80s. I don't think CC will quite get there, so that's a plus. It's very easy for me to pick on Correa, but I liked the deal at the time and I still do. That was a deal we had to make, in my opinion. Vasquez has been so frustrating this year. I liked the deal when it happened, but not the duration. 10 mil isn't crippling, but it will be hard to get out of that commitment without adding a sweetener. Neither Camargo nor Isola are regarded as any better than average at catcher (and in Isola's case even average is a big step). Yes, their bats look nice, but would they be nice enough to cancel out poor defense for a backup catcher? My inclination is to say no, despite liking both guys. Although, maybe the tradeoff from Vasquez to Camargo would be palatable considering Vasquez has been good but not great with his glove and absolutely atrocious with his bat (even for a catcher)... It would be great to be able to ditch Vasquez's contract, but it would truly surprise me if the FO would call it quits. They never do...
  10. Correa and his GIDPs have cost us multiple games at this point. That's aside from the fact that he basically just uses a whiffle ball bat at the plate whenever there are runners in scoring position. Dude just really doesn't have it together when it matters. How non-clutch can he be (I know, I know - he did drive in one earlier in the game...)?? Winder served up a delicious meatball with imported Italian meat to Garcia. He falls behind in the count too often and then forces pitches (of course you can say that about many pitchers, though the Twins employ too many of them). Nonetheless, I think Winder is a much safer bet than Sands assuming we do make it to October. Ok, I'm going to leave my mini-rant at that. On the plus side, Gallo didn't strike out! Not even once!
  11. I'm glad that he's getting a chance. He deserves it and has really nice versatility. I do wish he hit from the right side to replace Luplow and then Martin could replace Gallo, but we're all dead tired of talking about how Luplow and Gallo shouldn't be on the active roster. I also saw that the Nationals called up Travis Blankenhorn, so I'm happy he gets a shot for more than 20 major league at bats.
  12. To me the lack of attention to the bullpen was far more egregious in the off-season than at the trade deadline. There weren't realistic, clear upgrades available without significantly overpaying (except for maybe David Robertson). It was nearly just as obvious in the off-season that we needed significant BP help. And it wouldn't have taken any prospects to do it. Andrew Chafing, Seth Lugo & others would have been nice and reasonable additions. It blew my mind that we paid great attention to depth everywhere EXCEPT the bullpen.
  13. For a mid market team you ABSOLUTELY make both deals 100% of the time. It's only "pathetic" because of underperformance (I.e - hindsight). At the time that the contracts were offered there were very few critics, especially in Buxton's case. Twins fans need to stop pretending like they foresaw these guys falling off a cliff this year. Star players that want to play in Minneapolis don't grow on trees.
  14. Let's please not go after a guy that's having his first good season of his career - a la Jorge Lopez.
  15. The perfect example for the Nats not taking a discount based on lack of track record is...Jorge Lopez. I'd be against that kind of haul for Thomas, even without the hindsight that Cano was fixable.
  16. The only trades we should be thinking about are for next year's offense.
  17. Automatic Balls and Strikes. Used in the minor to challenge pitches. I now live in Albuquerque and see it regularly with the Isotopes and it's pretty great. And yes, the Isotopes are named after that episode of the Simpsons.
  18. I agree with your assessment of the FOs ability to draft and develop...but I can't help but chime in with Emanuel Rodriguez...
  19. I also recall that the Jays grabbed Ray very early in FA, so it would have been hard for us to have a chance anyways.
  20. Definitely would have been hard to pick these successes, other than Kolten Wong. I wanted him badly for that price. But also thought Simmons would fit really well (bye bye, my credibility in this post). Ray's bouceback wasn't a given due to all his free passes, but I think it was easy to predict he'd be better than Happless. Shoemaker never should have gotten a major league deal. That play on upside was just a terrible idea and everyone seemed to know it. Relievers are so damn tricky, I can't even lie that I would have done better.
  21. I can appreciate the intent of this article - seemingly just to give you whatever thought process may develop. I thought it was such an interesting situation when Simmons hit the team with Covid, because at the time it was believed his production would be mostly irreplaceable. If he were to infect everyone at a time that we were still trying to contend (and his production was this bad), I think he'd be gone (trying to convey a hypothetical, hope it worked). On a serious note, I think it's ridiculous to say that athletes (or anyone) can't have an opinion and voice it like the rest of us (even though Simmons opinion here, and that of others of similar mind, is absolutely bat**** and dangerous). Get your dang vaccine and stop endangering others with selfishness (goes for everyone, seriously!)
