  1. You're right. The Farmer deal didn't work out. The same things people said about Farmer is what people say about Castro now. Farmer had a 1.7 rWAR in 2023. Castro's was 1.6 this past season, despite having a lot more at bats. I get what you're saying, but money is going to be tight and they have to decide soon. I don't think it makes sense hamstring their off-season because they decide to take Castro through arbitration.
  2. I think Tonkin and Castro are definitely gone, and Krilloff is a maybe. I like Willi Castro, but $6.2 million for a utility man is a luxury the Twins can't afford. Maybe they can trade him, but there are going to be a lot of teams looking to trim payroll. Don't be shocked if he's non-tendered. If they pay Castro the Twins will not have flexibility to do anything this offseason.
  3. I'm sure the Twins would love to have him hold down a rotation spot, but I'm not sure that he can.
  4. Two strikeout prone lefties. I suspect they will keep right field open for Rodriguez and/or Jenkins.
  5. I don't see any way Castro is with this team next year. The Twins already have $90 million on the books even before arbitration guys are added. He is a luxury they simply cannot afford. One name that was not on the list in the article is Larnach. I expect he'll be offered a contract, but I think there's a good chance he's not with the Twins next year. I don't see how having both him and Wallner in the same lineup makes any sense .
  6. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just don't agree with the premise that "greed killed the Twins". This team was almost a mathematical lock to make the playoffs as late as mid August. What happened after that will be the subject of continued dissection on this website. The Pohlad's certainly deserve at least some blame. The decision to slash payroll after the good vibes of the previous season was certainly curious. However, I don't see how that extra money would have prevented what happened. I'm not the biggest fan of the Pohlad's. The entire contraction episode still stings. That said, their payroll has generally been league average, even when attendance was not. There are better ownership groups out there, and there are also much worse.
  7. Forgot "synergies" in the business terms that mean nothing.
  8. Maybe having too many coaches is part of the problem. Why do they need assistant hitting coaches? Too many voices can sometimes cause confusion and contradicting advice.
  9. Best Twins pitcher of the night. I wish I was joking.
  10. Good. When the fans stop booing is when we should be worried. It means they no longer care.
  11. I haven't given up on SWR. There's enough there to like.
  12. Why am I watching this? Do I hate myself?
  13. As a point of comparison, the Washington football team used to have a multi-year waiting list for season tickets. It wasn't just a football team, it was a religion. Two decades of the prior ownership group completely alienated the fans. Nothing but greed and overall mediocrity. Now they have to block out the upper deck so they can say they have a sellout. Winning matters.
  14. Too early to say. Although I think everyone is just happy to be rid of the Angelos clan Rubenstein strikes me as a guy who's not afraid to set money on fire just because he can.
  15. People love a winner. I live near Baltimore and before last season Camden Yards was like a tomb. Now it's packed. And similar to the Twins, Baltimore fans are not in love with the owners. As others noted above, this is an organization satisfied with mediocrity. I live and die with the Twins and would visit Target Field a lot more if I could. That said, this current iteration of the team can be completely unwatchable at times. The satisfaction with mediocrity permeates the entire organization. I enjoyed watching the losing teams in the late 90s more than this team. At least they tried to win. The current set of coaches and players seem to show up at the ballpark because it's their job.
  16. There's definitely a lack of players that capture the imagination. Correa or Buxton could be that guy, but they spend so much time on the IR that you can't even tell they're still on the team. Lewis could be that guy, but he'll have to bounce back from a truly brutal second half of the season. Other than that, there's some guys who can occasionally mash the ball when they're not swinging at pitches a foot out of the zone
  17. He botched a grounder early in the game that was generously ruled a hit.
  18. I've been a Twins fan for over several decades. There's been good years and more than a few bad ones. I don't remember a season hurting as much as this one. They finished on a high note last year and things were looking up. Despite the payroll cut, they were decent through the first 2/3 of the season, and I was optimistic they could make a playoff run given the mediocre state of the AL. And then the bottom just completely fell out. Baseball can be a brutal game. I'm concerned it will take the organization years to wipe the stink away.
  19. Even with a healthy Joe Ryan the Twins only have three proven starters. If they move Lopez they'd essentially be raising the white flag before the season even starts (see White Sox). I think this is a very unlikely scenario.
  20. For some of the younger guys it needs to be made clear that they are not guaranteed a spot on the MLB roster when spring training begins.
  21. I will say that when I first saw it come off the bat it had such a strange trajectory that I thought it had bounced off the plate. Then he threw to second. I had no idea what was going on.
