    I felt the same way about Punto back in the day. Strange thing though, if you look at his career numbers he would probably be one of the better players on the current Twins team. He could hit his weight and his defense was superb at multiple positions.

    There have been other message boards on this, so I'm not going to beat a dead horse, but I think they would be nuts to trade Ryan or Lopez. Good starting pitching is one of the toughest commodities to obtain and it's the foundation for any serious contender. If money is the issue, they can push off serious trade discussions until next offseason.

    Seems a little early in the off-season to be playing the waiver wire merry-go-round. Couldn't they just wait until he cleared waivers and then signed him to a minor league deal?

    Yeah, it would be fun to be a fly on the wall in some of those meetings. Someone in the front office must see something in him. I gotta think that someone DFA'd by the Pirates is not gonna have many more opportunities.

    You forgot Funderburk. But yeah, I think this is generally how it will all go down. Although by "Free Agent" I'm guessing it will be a few guys off the bargain rack and see who does best in spring training. I wouldn't object to a reunion with Danny Coulombe. He might still fit in their budget.

    That's always a popular argument. In my experience of watching baseball over several decades the teams that are rebuilding for that World Series in five years are always rebuilding. That big day rarely ever comes. I'm more of the view that teams should always try to be at least competitive and then pick their spots when it looks like they have a team that's starting to gel. I'm not saying the Twins should go all in and bet the farm on 2026. It's going to be a tough year of finding out who can play and who can't. But I'm certainly not willing to throw the towel in on 2027, and if they trade Ryan and/or Lopez, that's effectively what they would be doing.

    Agreed, you can't. But I would also argue the same goes for Ryan. They won't get fair value either way.

    Good article, but I disagree with the premise. Yes, Ryan would bring a greater return of talent, but if you move Pablo you're potentially freeing up dollars to spend on other needs (assuming they spend the money). Trading Pablo but not Ryan does not necessarily indicate one direction over the other. Trading Ryan would probably make the Twins worse off because he's arguably the better pitcher. Personally, I don't think they should trade either of them, and I don't think they need to. They can keep both and stay under $100 million. Starting pitching will be what keeps this team competitive. Other things need to happen too, but it begins with starting pitching.

    I vote no, but it's not the biggest decision they'll make this offseason. I'm sure they'll be bringing in several guys of the same caliber as Tonkin to battle for spots. If they bring back Tonkin, even on a minor league deal, and he wins a spot, it just means it's going to be a really long season. His results the last couple years haven't been anything worth writing home about and "rotator cuff strain" should be a red flag. Give someone new a chance to show what they got.

    The big difference is Wallner is not arbitration eligible. That said, I don't think Wallner should be guaranteed a spot in their future plans. He's gotta start showing improvement.

    I fully expect their payroll will be below $100 million in 2026. They'll go dumpster diving and hold tryouts to fill out the bullpen and maybe add a has-been/never-was to platoon at first base. And honestly, if they had another $20 million to spend do you think it would really make that much difference? As the article states, it maybe gets them to 0.500. Is that what we aspire to? I think 2026 will be about figuring out what they currently have and then build from there.

    I concur that moving Correa was a good move (probably the best move they made that day). I won't argue anymore about the semantics of what constitutes a fire sale.

    For the most part, I don't disagree with the logic of the trades, but c'mon, the Correa trade was 100 percent about $$$$, and there is no way they move Duran if he wasn't arbitration eligible. Add in the Jax, Varland, and Stewart deals, and I don't think calling this a fire sale is overstating the case.

    One thing going for the Twins organization is that the Pohlad's are generally loyal and will give you a long leash (for better or worse). Does Falvey's uncertain future change that equation? Maybe, but not necessarily.

    Yeah, I don't see them spending anything this winter. If the trade deadline fire sale told us anything, it's that they are trimming payroll and they may not be done. They sure as hell aren't spending $15 million on a veteran first baseman for a team that's rebuilding.

    I get that people are upset with the Pohlads and Falvey (I am too), but I don't understand those who say we should boycott the team and not attend games. How does that help anything? Baseball is supposed to be fun. It will be a young team in transition next year. Embrace it for what it is. Win Twins!

    I get it. The Twins are not a major market and can't keep spending like they have the last few years. Therefore, they need to make smarter personnel and development decisions. Do I believe Falvey is the right person to be making those decisions?; NO!

    He's already had a stroke. As much as we all want to see him back in the dugout, you can never go home. Or as Rick Pitino would say, Tom Kelly is not walking through that door.

    You can't please everyone. But yeah, one would think that's a prerequisite.

    Not gonna happen, but they need someone like Doug Mientkiewicz to light a fire under these guys.

    Was thinking the exact same thing. Interesting though...I have relatives who are Pirates fans and their complaints about Shelton were similar to complaints about Rocco.....poor feel for the game....head scratching game decisions.... etc..

    Stewart had surgery and will miss the rest of the season, and yet I still think the Twins got the worst of that trade.
