    I sincerely wish that they keep Ryan, Lopez, and Buxton. I don't believe in rebuilds. They rarely amount to anything but a decade of misery. There is talent on this team. Ownership and the front office owe it to the fans to build around what they have and field a competitive product, no matter the payroll.

    Given who's on the roster at the moment, this all seems about right, for better or worse. A lot of guys who shouldn't be on a major league roster, but it is what it is. I might quibble about the bullpen. I think they find a spot for Adams. His overall results were bad, but there were moments where he flashed some good stuff and there is enough to build on. The infield is downright depressing.

    Some of the other stories on this development are not clear. They make it sound like you have to subscribe to ESPN first and then buy an add on.

    Nick: To be clear, I gave your article a thumbs up for the reporting and analysis and not because I like the implications of what Falvey is suggesting. Yuck. Clemens has his moments, but he is not the starting first baseman for a contending club. I do concur though that if the alternative is someone like Ty France then might as well be Clemens. The bar is that low

    There may be demand for everyday outfielders, but apart from Buxton I don't think any of the Twins outfielders fit that bill. And even Buxton has question marks because of his injury history. I think the Twins will trade some outfielders, but it will be more about clearing roster space. I don't expect they would receive any meaningful pieces in return.

    "As the Twins enter at least a soft rebuild, it will make more sense for these four roster spots to go to younger pitchers with more upside. The Twins will almost certainly need to convert some starters to relievers this offseason, as they have a glut of pitchers presumably fighting for just a couple of rotation spots, with more prospect depth on the way." I generally agree with this, although they are going to have to bring in at least a couple guys with some track record to fill out the bullpen. Given their financial constraints, they will have to target guys like Justin Topa, which makes their decision to decline his option somewhat odd. Is the ill will created by going through arbitration really worth the few nickles they might save?

    Stewart had shoulder surgery and won't be ready to start the season. I don't see a fit with the Twins anymore. Maybe on a minor league deal.

    It can be both ways. Everyone from the front office down through the coaches should have been sent packing. I felt Baldelli absolutely should have been fired. I'm still not clear why his option was picked up after the epic collapse in 2024. But let's not pretend he was the only problem. Falvey built this team and hired the coaching staff. These were all his guys.

    Falvey has dispatched with the GM, manager, and numerous coaches. He has no one left to blame.

    I think "slim/unlikely" is overestimating the odds. If they weren't willing to take Duran through arbitration, who is a legit closer, there is no way they are going to rain $10 million on a project like Devin Williams.

    I generally agree with the article. At the end of the day, the manager doesn't hit, and he doesn't pitch. What troubles me is the complaints from the Pittsburgh fans are poor baserunning, poor situational awareness by the players and the manager, shoddy defense, and no accountability. Does any of this sound familiar? I'll give Shelton a chance, but sure hope this isn't Rocco 2.0.

    What is he going to do to hold players accountable for sloppy fielding and base running?

    I see this as all about familiarity. Shelton is someone Falvey has worked with before and with whom he obviously has a certain comfort level. Whether they are doing a rebuild or spending $300 million and making a run for the title, I still think they end up with Shelton (for better or worse). There are lots of aspiring managers who would do almost anything to get the Twins job and tow the company line, even those from outside the organization, but Falvey wants Shelton. Anyway, I'll give Shelton a chance. Let's not forget, Tom Kelly was the ultimate in-house candidate and wasn't on many short lists to take over the job in '87.

    It's frustrating because we know the guy has talent. He goes on those stretches where he carries the team, and then nothing. I had hopes he could inject himself into the first base debate, but I don't see that anymore. I think he could really boost his career in Japan or Korea. Maybe rebuild his value and make a few bucks in the process,

    I would cut him loose sooner rather than later just so he has more time to evaluate his options and field offers. I don't see any path for him to make the MLB roster.

    For those pinning blame on the coaching staff, coaching can help, but at the end of the day the player has to make the adjustments. I'm sure the Twins are always looking to improve player development throughout the organization, but the odds are still stacked against even the best prospects. The transition to MLB is hard. If you look at the first round of 2022, Brooks Lee is one of the few who has actually made it to the majors. Only three (Holliday, Neto, Horton) have shown any promise.

    "...the Twins don't have another player in their organization ready to take over primary catching duties..." That's really the crux of the situation. They could probably trade him for a couple second tier prospects, but is that worth having zero legit options at catcher? If the season really goes sour they could always trade him in July.
