    This is how the Philadelphia Eagles built the roster they did, including on their offensive line. Ditto the Chiefs and Bills and especially the Ravens. You invest in talent - talent that might take a year or two to establish or coach up, but talent. They have him for 5 years, if they get even three good to great years out of it....that's a successful pick. And if it's successful, you give him his second contract that runs through his absolute prime years.

    Pretty good chance Cam Robinson gets them another one that roughly cancels out what they traded for him.

    They were on the hook to pay him almost 7M either way. Hopefully they gave him a raise and cleared any further dead money off the books.

    Nope, year three. I think if you draft the right receivers you don't have to think that way. Addison stepped right in as a rookie, fwiw. Hockenson's health is a major concern of mine. If this year is another banged up/mid production year....I'm ready to move on. This should be a monster year given it's a first year starting QB. (Hell, I'd advocate for trading him and taking a TE from this class. After DT and RB, TE is the third best position group IMO)

    Addison still has three more seasons with the 5th year option. With Hockenson back there is no need to blow high picks at WR IMO. Now.....next year if you trade Addison? Sure. I agree they aren't likely to blow the cap on two massive receiver contracts, but this isn't the year to do that.

    5th round receivers aren't exactly non-factors. Wicks, Nucua, Iosivas, Shakir, Demario Douglas, Mooney, Renfroe, Slayton have all been taken 5th or later in the last five years. Like all 5th round picks, your odds are low, but that's the time to swing. Why waste a high pick on a dude who would be (at best) the 4th guy getting targets?

    We can do BPA but I still hope that's a DT. Use a 5th on a WR would be my pref.

    Darnold 3/100. Tag and trade confirmed as impossible.

    I'll eat crow if his AAV is 40M or over, but considering what Allen just got I don't consider that likely. Anything less than 40M per year means the tag and trade was not a workable idea.

    Yeah, the salary cap bump is going to mess with stuff it seems. Jake Matthews just got 2 years and 45M. These guards are going to be close to 20M....

    I don't love the contract but there are some things to be aware of: resigning him saves a 2.4M cap hit for dead money this year. So the contract is probably closer to 7 than 10. We know that KOC really likes Jones and he's a leader on that team. They were going to have to have at least one vet so I can swallow this. I just don't love the price. (But, as Dan said, I think we need to buckle up for a lot of AAVs being higher than projected)

    Maybe this is a more succinct way to put it: In order for the tag and trade to work the following has to be true: 1) Darnold and his agent are willing to play ball to facilitate themselves to a certain team 2) There exists at least one clear suitor who is pursuing aggressively and doesn't want to risk the market. 3) The money in his expected contract is close to the tag amount 4) Draft compensation reflects that there are other suitors at this price tag and willing to also trade. At one point I was thinking this was possible, but at that time I believed the Raiders had shown their cards. Yesterday threw that completely out of the water. I don't think 3 is true based on all reporting. He's likely to come in 25-40% lower than the tag. As a result, I don't think 4 is true. There may be multiple suitors, but not at 40M. Since there is hesitation on asking price, I think that eliminates 1 and 2. Sucks to lose out on a potential pick, but the current QB carousel seems like crazy town.
