I think it's perfectly fine for them to still be in the business of developing confidence. Stretching him out, making sure he's still pitching in September. This speaks to @Mike Sixel's point, but Rocco is managing to win still. And this was the winning move against an elite lineup of a first place team. Hopefully, (fingers crossed) August and September will be more about development for the future after we sell. For now....that was the right move to win the game.

The Twins were up 2-0 and SWR was sent to the minors for being terrible earlier in the season. Fans have seen that this offense goes through droughts of incredible ineptitude.... And some of you are calling for SWR to go back out in the 6th against a first place team, with a good lineup, and a small lead? The *$^& are you people on? Seriously. Like, is your intent to completely undermine your own credibility here? Now, I carve out an exemption for you rational folks that don't always dogpile Rocco, it's ok to have a nuanced opinion. But 90% of you complaining would've been tossing chairs if SWR had gone out and given up a bloop and a blast the next inning and blamed Rocco for that too.

For a lot of his career I get it, but that last decision? That's where I hesitate if I'm Kirk. He's already been paid enough to keep multiple generations of his family rich, he'll likely get a rich broadcasting career when he's done, but the thing he doesn't have is a legacy of winning. I think I take a smaller chunk of cash to try and win in Minnesota than chase a few more million for the pile on a garbage Atlanta team. At some point, my legacy and my ability to win a Super Bowl would matter more to me. (I would not have this take if I was someone who didn't make that much money in my career. Someone like Dalvin Cook for instance.)
  4. TheLeviathan
He's fully entitled to do it, but Cousins has always chased the money.
  5. TheLeviathan
    Ok Charley.

    Sell, baby, sell.

We here at Twinsdaily have reached the Zenith of our existence. Here....an article dedicated to imploring baseball fans to be respectful, not attack athletes or their families, and show some basic decorum...is not safe. Yes, that's right folks: the blistering, toxic stupidity of manager complaints somehow, with mental gymnastics that would make Simone Biles jealous, has found itself here. Congratulations sir. There is but one response to this that does it justice.

I don't understand why there isn't full consensus that this team isn't good enough. Why are we clutching on to anyone so that we can win 78 games instead of 70? The team should absolutely be shopping players like Duran. If you can turn a great reliever into a really good every day player? You do that. The team isn't going to resign him when he's a free agent, so sell high. Now...getting bang for your buck is another issue. Hopefully the Front Office targets the right returns.

If nothing else skip him through the all-star break. He'll miss a couple starts but maybe that will be enough to get him right. As @Mike Sixel said....his replacement will have a hard time being worse.

I like the deal better for Miami than Pitt. Minkah can still play and I'm not sure Ramsey can.
  11. TheLeviathan
I'm just fine with this trend continuing. This team needs to have no doubt that it's time to aggressively reshape the roster for the next few years.
  12. TheLeviathan
The roster needs a younger talent infusion and there may be limited sellers this year. Perfect time to sell.
  13. TheLeviathan
What about the discomfort of the camera folks who have to whirl their equipment around to catch the lasers heading out as souveniers? Think about those poor folks!
  14. TheLeviathan
I have no idea who replaces him in the rotation, but it might be time to put Ober on the DL so he can figure out whatever this discomfort issue is and treat it.
  15. TheLeviathan
I really liked the aggression the Twins showed on the basepaths tonight. At least one of the runs, if not two, happened because they made Detroit's defense work.
  16. TheLeviathan
It struck me as a defensive move. It's a bit early, but I think Rocco thought runs for Detroit would be at a premium and wanted to shift to run prevention.
  17. TheLeviathan
It's more recent. It's always been snarky with a good (necessary) dose of negativity, but the last two years have turned toxic. It's best just to avoid the game threads and enjoy the articles!

Plus his dad was freaking awesome in the 2000s. You guys had him on your 2005 MVP Baseball franchise teams and you know it!

I'll speak for myself: it isn't the lack of a declaration of selling that bugs me but the wishy-washy injury excuses that do. This team isn't even close to having an injury epidemic relative to what other teams are experiencing. How about this as a response? "Teams don't make decisons on buying and selling in June and we're no different. What decides our actions at the deadline is how we play right now. We need to find a way to win games and I need to do what I can to help give Rocco the best roster to do that right now" And that's if.....as you note....he makes the mistake to open his mouth at all.
  20. TheLeviathan
Well, b*tching about Baldelli is harder in a 10-1 win so that cuts out like 87% of those that comment.
  21. TheLeviathan
No idea. He's still good defensively and someone might buy-in to a bounceback.
  22. TheLeviathan
I would love to snag Crawford.
  23. TheLeviathan
Yup, I am under no delusion that all of this is realistic. After what leaked from Houston about the dumb*** discussions real GMs have? I rule nothing out.

I would be excited that they got lucky and won this year's Small Sample Size of Glory. I just also recognize it for what it is - a gauntlet of luck and skill with the emphasis on luck and good timing. If a 91 win Twins team upsets a 108 win Dodgers team I'm going to celebrate. But I'm also sure as hell going to know who the better team was. Baseball, of all the major sports, is the one that is least likely to crown the best team at the end of the year. That's just a fact. It doesn't have to take away from my enjoyment to not pretend it's a bit silly.

Alright, here's my suggestion for a retool at the deadline (yes, this is for fun but trying to be semi-reasonable) 1 - Trade Willie Castro, Columbe and Ty France to San Fran for 1B Bryce Eldridge and Trent Harris 2 - Trade Johan Duran to the Cubs for OF Kevin Alcantara and SP Jack Neely 3 - Trade Harrison Bader to Cardinals for C Jimmy Crooks 4 - Trade Chris Paddack to Brewers for 1B/3B Luke Adams And lastly? You call up those crazy Padres and see if they'd trade C Salas and P Bradley Rodriguez for Correa. My pipedream totally retools the team in a balanced, athletic way!
