  1. Sir....I am in your debt.
  2. I want to quibble with this a bit. His comment earlier this year that he judges great catches by how hard he hits the wall makes me wonder on a ball like this one. It was very catchable well apart from the wall. Did he miss this catch because he wanted/expected to hit the wall? Because if his primary concern was the catch, there is simply no reason to hit the wall and leave the game. He could've slowed his stride and comfortably got under this one with plenty of room to spare. Maybe I'm reading too much into his comment. It gnaws at me as a really poor mindset. (One I want changed. He's too valuable for this nonsense)
  3. If he's as aware of the wall as you say that makes yesterday even worse.
  4. Certainly his claim has room for criticism. I find his stance driven more by a desire to avoid becoming a political football rather than anything about policy.
  5. Why would the park need to be larger? The ball was a foot or two short of the wall. Not only was that a missed, catchable ball....it was a wholly avoidable wall crash. Buxton is too valuable for that. I hope the coaches had a chat with him about playing that better for all sakes.
  6. I know we like to give players credit for selflessness, but I can't say I feel good about his crash yesterday. That was more in the "reckless" category again. And he had a real nice run of much more careful, aggressive plays of late too. Sorta disappointing to see him jump past the ball to hit the wall and miss the catch.
  7. It was as of apparently this morning. There wasn't much of an alert on it. He was pretty dry, straight-forward, and professional. It wasn't a bomb so much as he basically said "I wasn't allowed to charge obstruction, but even if I was that's the job of Congress"
  8. I would like that shirt you have Eddie. Market that sucker.
  9. Smeltzer's delivery looks like it hides the ball really well. Has he made mechanics changes or how has he ascended so quickly?
  10. Well....Mueller made it about as clear as he could that he thinks Congress should act.
  11. Any thoughts on the SCOTUS basically affirming the lower court in tossing the more severe aspect of the Indiana abortion law? That's a sorta good sign right?
  12. It's been the most fun I've had through May since the early 2000s. That's about all I'm willing to say right now.
  13. I had a bad feeling that when Arraez couldn't drive in Sano and Kepler that we'd regret it. You'll lose some in baseball, including when Taylor Rogers is on the mound. Let's win tomorrow and have a nice little 5-2 road trip.
  14. It is. Game of Thrones set it's own bar so high that it may have been unattainable. Also, I did tune my freaking TV and couldn't find any combination that didn't make it pixelated, dark, and blurry. So screw that guy.
  15. This week seems to have necessitated the creation of this:
  16. The section about the strain on production is interesting I think.
  17. The Ringer has written a couple nice articles on the Twins. The chatter is out there if it matters to you.
  18. Yes, this person may not be sincere. But we know there were a lot of Obama to Trump swing voters in 2016. Maybe that author doesn't fit in that camp, but a lot of people do. (What drove them to Trump, by the way, had nothing to do with where on the political spectrum you think Hillary Clinton fell. It was just that it was Hillary Clinton.) Those voters can be brought back and, in many places, account for the margin of victory. Nevermind the possible hardcore Republicans you might be able to flip who can't see Trump as an actual Republican. I wouldn't count on them right now, but I wouldn't count them out either.
  19. Man what a good article.
  20. He's 6-3 with a 2.69 ERA against the Astros. So....if past results are your basis...he seems like he'll be fine. MadBum isn't pitching like an ace right now and even Max Scherzer isn't at his same elite level right now. There are no sure things in baseball but I feel quite confident any of the guys being discussed are a huge upgrade over the arms on this team right now that would be slotted in the playoffs.
  21. It'll be interesting to see what his disapproval numbers look like among Republicans 6-8 months from now. People with ideology as their top priority will dismiss it, but getting 10% of Republicans to switch their vote basically makes Trump's defeat a certainty. It matters and should be part of the calculus.
  22. His contract is probably another stumbling block given the money they doled out for Hosmer and Machado.
  23. Souhan did imply pretty heavily that it was the "key" reason. I'm not sure he wouldn't be a good fit for this club as a guy to trot around first after the guy after him knocks it out of the park. That said, I think we're getting pretty similar defense from Cron and more production at a fraction of the price. So moving on from Mauer probably was helpful for the team. But so is having Buxton in CF and hitting. So is having Schoop over Dozier. So is having three catchers that can hit. So is having The Almighty Wes Johnson. So is watching Rosario and Kepler progressing. So is seeing Polanco become a star. With all those things, it does seem an unnecessary personal jab to lay that all on Mauer.
  24. We'll have to see for how long. Certainly it doesn't help and it being a shoulder issue is perhaps the worst part of all. Secretly, I sorta hope he isn't dealt anyway. He just looks like a major leaguer - love his pace, he looks like a strong and durable dude, and my god that slider is something else.
