    I'm not a Ray fan. I don't think he'll translate well to the AL and I wouldn't trust him in a playoff start. They won't deal Bradley right now, too much talent and they'd be selling low. Grienke? I've made clear for months now how I feel about acquiring him. Make no mistake, they'll be selling by July.

    It may be hard to differentiate the two. Players that start this late in the year are typically coming back from injury. I admit, I have no data on this, but it sure seems like those players are typically not their best the rest of the season. Now, that could be injury, it could be rust, it could be both. I'm simply saying there is a far higher degree of likelihood that a reliever we trade for is going to be what we expect in 2019. Kimbrel could be something of a wildcard. (Again, a wildcard I wanted. The downside is there, but so is the upside)

    I don't disagree it will bring out the ugly. Most small farmers, and the rural people who depend on that business to sustain their towns, don't love subsidies. They don't make them any money. Just an anecdote, but in the area I grew up in most people lost money on their crops. My father paid the bills last year selling bails of hay. (Something he can do outside the government influence of price controls and subsidies)

    Um, it couldn't be more "reasonable". All baseball teams ask their pitchers and catchers to report a month or more in advance of the season. Why? Because baseball players, especially pitchers, need repetition to prepare their arms. Kimbrel may have been doing things on the side but that isn't the same thing. What limited data we have suggests that it is a challenge for players to come back from. Is it conclusive? Of course not, hence the words "possible" and "could". But the idea that a pitcher might struggle to come back right away after missing all of ST and two and a half months of the season is about as reasonable an assumption as one could hold methinks. (And that is to say nothing - NOTHING - about the wisdom of signing him. Just to have due skepticism about his impact this year. Had we signed Kimbrel, which I wanted, I'd have still wanted another reliever and starter. Same thing I want now)

    Even if the D-backs do sell, I don't want Bradley or Ray anyway. If you're looking for the combo-platter - Toronto is the place to shop.

    Right, we've seen how guys that were late to sign and missed ST really struggled. (See: Alex Cobb, Lance Lynn, etc) It's reasonable to assume that Kimbrel may be late in the summer, if at all, that he is an effective reliever. If you value 2019, it's possible we're better off trading for that help.

    I don't know. I'm wasting my time responding to you I think. Can you try to be conversational? You know - no goal post moving. No "I moved on" when you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar. Just....conversational. Please. I believe economic policy tends to take 3-4 years to show up. Sometimes longer. I believe that for any president, by the way. Most of the economic success right now are initiatives that Obama put in place. Trump will get credit if the economy continues to grow, however. I just can't measure that yet. I think the tax cuts were a massive welfare check to the wealthy. "Reducing Regulations" is a boogeyman for both sides. Sometimes it's good, other times it is devastatingly stupid. We may not know which for awhile so you'd have to tell me which specific regulations were so helpful. Getting out of the Iran deal seems to be ramping up a war. North Korea continues to do whatever it wants. As Brock said, it's good he's taking on China. I'm good with the Jerusalem thing. But I don't like what the Republicans represent. They tacitly allow racists in their midst. Their rhetoric on immigration is ugly. They continue to drive up huge spending with no balance. Their supply side economics are not what the country needs right now. I don't hate Trump as a person - I think he's a miserable human being who represents a spoiled, coastal elite - but I don't hate him. I just want him, and what he represents, the hell out of office.

    They just may not have trusted him to hold up as a three year investment. That's justifiable. It also makes it about the money. (Terms) As it is in 99.9% of all free agent negotiations.

    In general I'm also opposed to that idea. But in strange times, I'm willing to waive that thought process.

    I'm with you. I'm disappointed also. But we didn't lose out on Craig Kimbrel because of Wrigley, their fans, Old Style beer, elevated trains, or any other nonsense. We didn't want to match or exceed their terms. That's my point, I'm tired of hearing the litany of excuses every time we don't sign someone.

    Well, why don't we just agree that the most likely scenario existed then? We simply did not offer as much money or years. The terms were inferior. And (deep breath everyone who bristled at that) that's.....ok. It's not the end of the world. It's ok for the FO to set a price and hold to it. But when players sign elsewhere they sign, the vast majority of the time, for the best terms. Not because of climate, how many parks they have, or how good the local burgers are: they sign for the best terms. We went out and did a damn fine job offering the best terms to Cruz, Schoop, Perez, and a few other revelations. We just decided the terms the Cubs offer were more than we budgeted. That's ok. (But then ya gotta go out and get the talent on the field some other way)

    Do you mean either Warren/Klobuchar or Klobuchar/Biden? I really don't know how anyone who isn't a diehard Republican can't see anyone with "Democrat" in front of their name as anything other than a shift in the right direction. This is stealing Carole's usual thunder, but at the end of the day don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. We're not in that phase yet, it's totally cool to be aspirational right now. Just, regardless of what happens in the primary, we're all 100% on board with "Not Trump".

    She has run quite a different model of a campaign, however. I'm not confident it was a wise choice to do so, nevertheless, I give her credit for trying it. (That being a very open and detailed, policy driven strategy)

    I said the other day that I thought trading season was going to start soon. From the sounds of the Yankees scouting Stroman and MadBum....that may well be the case. If we want arms, the time to be shopping is now.
