  1. Just because I can afford to pay you 100 grand for your Pontiac Aztek doesn't mean I have to. Look, I wanted Kimbrel, but there is a point at which we want our front office assessing risk and walking away from deals they feel the numbers don't justify. We shouldn't let our disappointment (which I share) cause us to think recklessness is a better idea.
  2. Pretty well? The Twins bullpen has been pretty good so far. What we're talking about is how we upgrade to turn something we're all worried about into something we're not. But make no mistake, performance wise, this group has been good so far.
  3. I was really hoping Randball Stu was going to have an article in which Ryan Pressly offers intimate candlelight dinners with TD posters so that they can shed all their angst and say goodbye. This'll do though.
  4. I don't think it's fair at all. This is clickbait and TD is normally above that.
  5. Agreed, which is why I said we'll know the answer to that soon enough.
  6. Guy has an OBP of about .450 and walks twice as much as he strikes out. MLB has him listed as a switch hitter and reports seem to say he can field well. Maybe he's a dude that with a swing adjustment generates a lot more power. Gotta love the bat skills though.
  7. You know whose draft looks a lot like ours right now? The Houston Astros. New wave analytics are putting aside a lot of the old conventions. I'd encourage people to read the Ringer article on the Astros that was recently posted. I would be wary of relying on what traditional scouting tells you about a player's strengths or weaknesses and just trust the process for now.
  8. Might be that the team is approaching organizational strengths and weaknesses as they see drafts allow them. They took quite a few catchers last year (or the year before, I forget), so perhaps they are just letting the draft come to them. I'm sure they are looking at their depth charts, available spots, etc. as they draft. None of us are doing so. They may feel their lower minors will be set at pitching and catching for a year and would rather not create a glut if they like infielders better. The organization's player development and drafting since the new regime took over has looked good so far. Probably best to sit back, take a gander, and wait to see what they do.
  9. I don't know why anyone would want college arms. Take the 18 year olds later that you can work with to refine. I'm a huge advocate of taking bats early and then loading up on arms in the rest of the draft that you can put your gurus to work on.
  10. Man what a throw by Buxton. That looked almost doctored it was so unbelievable.
  11. That Sano hit was ridiculous, Tampa should be ashamed of that park. Helluva win though. This team has serious fight to it, something I'm not sure I could say about a Twins team in a very long time. The emotional leaders of this team have an edge to them and I love it.
  12. I want to quibble with this a bit. His comment earlier this year that he judges great catches by how hard he hits the wall makes me wonder on a ball like this one. It was very catchable well apart from the wall. Did he miss this catch because he wanted/expected to hit the wall? Because if his primary concern was the catch, there is simply no reason to hit the wall and leave the game. He could've slowed his stride and comfortably got under this one with plenty of room to spare. Maybe I'm reading too much into his comment. It gnaws at me as a really poor mindset. (One I want changed. He's too valuable for this nonsense)
  13. If he's as aware of the wall as you say that makes yesterday even worse.
  14. Why would the park need to be larger? The ball was a foot or two short of the wall. Not only was that a missed, catchable ball....it was a wholly avoidable wall crash. Buxton is too valuable for that. I hope the coaches had a chat with him about playing that better for all sakes.
  15. I know we like to give players credit for selflessness, but I can't say I feel good about his crash yesterday. That was more in the "reckless" category again. And he had a real nice run of much more careful, aggressive plays of late too. Sorta disappointing to see him jump past the ball to hit the wall and miss the catch.
  16. Smeltzer's delivery looks like it hides the ball really well. Has he made mechanics changes or how has he ascended so quickly?
  17. It's been the most fun I've had through May since the early 2000s. That's about all I'm willing to say right now.
  18. I had a bad feeling that when Arraez couldn't drive in Sano and Kepler that we'd regret it. You'll lose some in baseball, including when Taylor Rogers is on the mound. Let's win tomorrow and have a nice little 5-2 road trip.
  19. This week seems to have necessitated the creation of this:
  20. He's 6-3 with a 2.69 ERA against the Astros. So....if past results are your basis...he seems like he'll be fine. MadBum isn't pitching like an ace right now and even Max Scherzer isn't at his same elite level right now. There are no sure things in baseball but I feel quite confident any of the guys being discussed are a huge upgrade over the arms on this team right now that would be slotted in the playoffs.
  21. His contract is probably another stumbling block given the money they doled out for Hosmer and Machado.
  22. We'll have to see for how long. Certainly it doesn't help and it being a shoulder issue is perhaps the worst part of all. Secretly, I sorta hope he isn't dealt anyway. He just looks like a major leaguer - love his pace, he looks like a strong and durable dude, and my god that slider is something else.
  23. The way you approached my post mischaracterized it in order to disagreeably agree with me at length. I mean....what's the point of that? In any case, I would agree that Greinke is far closer to Scherzer territory than MadBum or Stroman. (For a number of reasons, contracts, team control, and talent are mixed in as well) Robbie Ray may be available, but he is not a pitcher I'd want the Twins to target unless they think they can clean up some of his difficulties. Namely: he's basically a 5 inning starter. Tons of Ks and a bit of a tease, but not someone I'd feel great about relying on come playoff time. But you're right to put him on the list of players to consider.
