  1. In today's episode of did you know....Luis Gil was briefly associated with your Minnesota Twins in his late teens! This fact means nothing. Stop it.
  2. Agreed, so glad many of the posters are unable the actually pull trade levers. I was just highlighting the ridiculous assertion that Jose Miranda has more trade value than Brooks Lee. The Marlins aren't looking for a player for now anyway. I think we would be delighted with the actual price, until 5 years from now when the guy we sends gets a cup of coffee and we get an article bemoaning a standard transaction nobody remembers.
  3. Good call out on the training staff. Very easy to lose them into the background but they have more long term impact than short term. Vasquez isn't going anywhere, as long as the defense is still good. The value of keeping Jeffers legs under him for the postseason is not a small thing. If you can't get your mind out of the payroll gutter, just think of it as great catching group for 12m. Not surprised Julien would be going down. Something ain't right with him and it's far to early to cut loose players without options. You don't have to like it but Farmer and Margot are here for a while. Julien et al have to play them off.
  4. Other teams fanbases avoid this by not looking at players leaving as a loss. Players always leave. Losses only happen on the field.
  5. Again with the framing. Just a couple of days ago I made a joke about Minnesota fans terrified of a player leaving because something something Big Papi and here it is in real life! Unreal! Nearly the entire position player roster was a first or second round draft pick but ermagawdd Lamonte Wade! "Over the years, the Minnesota Twins seem to have lost more players than have fallen into their laps." Brutal. Step away from the keyboard. Call your editor, if you have one.
  6. Why would it be? Would be pretty irresponsible to catch Jeffers 130 games and then he's got no legs for the postseason. They'll all get some ABs throughout the season and Kepler plays every postseason game. Relax.
  7. Are you thinking regular season lineup construction is similar to postseason lineup construction?
  8. It was a fantastic at bat. And or plate appearance, depending.
  9. By played I would assume that you mean he did not get what he wanted there? Except that's not what happened.
  10. 93 pitches or Thielbar against the prime lefties? Radio saying Pablo's shaking hands in the dugout.
  11. Remember these nights when we grit our teeth through Vasquez at bats. It sucks in the moment but keeping Jeffers from a seasons long beating should bear fruit later.
  12. I detect sarcasm but I'd pick Margot against a right over Julien vs a lefty, same as Rocco.
  13. I have been wondering. They snipe at each other more than I would expect too.
  14. It's the ad load. It leads the league in ad coverage per Sq ft by far. All the places that pull off over the top themes like Disney or casinos have more controlled ad loads. There are ads everywhere in Vegas but it fits in. They've been doing this on "reality TV" for 20 years now. I first noticed it on the home improvement shows, they would blur an obvious Dewalt or pickup truck emblem if they didn't pay the piper. Oddly I always thought it brought more attention to the blurred item. Then when the Ford truck pulled into the jobsite as a sponsor somehow the truck emblem would fill half the screen. Native advertising is evil, especially in the news reports. I'm highly sensitive to ads. It's a starting point for framing the presentation of an issue. I'm still disappointed in the insertion of an ad in the game recaps. As a caretaker, I was promised no ads.
  15. Seems the case being made is that its the players having abnormally bad years, not the strategy. And what does it mean, to tie themselves to inferior talent for the rest of the game? Do they not swap both ways? A 4 man bench is going to get used, daily, Twins Daily. Get used to it.
  16. I don't disagree and it's the combine lack of performance of the aforementioned vets and kids that makes this an issue. Were it a more normal distribution of near career norms it would be easy. Wallner, for example, would stick out as the problem that needs fixed. With so many struggles, you can't flush everything. It's also temporary because we have those career norms. Santana was gleefully pronounced well done after three at bats but is somewhat closer to expected. Two bad months isn't always cooked. If an entire major league baseball team to perform to projections, it would be a record. Why does Lewis just automatically get a spot? All the guy does is hit everything out of the park. Julien isn't far behind him in that esteem, he's built a ton of credibility in a short time. With the defense so much improved, he's getting extra reps to get him going. If neither he or Farmer are hitting, Eddy gets the at bat's. If his defense was still a disaster, Farmer gets the reps and Eddy might be in AAA. Farmer provides the security blanket. There is very little reason to expect a different growth curve for a Brooks Lee although he should adjust faster than most. Royce is the outlier and the Farmers of the world set the table for everyone. It's not always steak, but we get fed. If you leave the crops to the kids, we might all starve.
  17. That's not the argument I'm making. He's still better than his current replacement options, even without hitting. The next time Martin collides with someone, we won't be so lucky as we have been.
  18. As captain of the offseason Farmer fan club, this is where I'm at. There are far larger disasters around the league and he's always been a slow starter. Don't look at Randy Adrozerena, Corbin Carroll or "noted trade target" Valdy G. It's not pretty. There was never a case to be made that some sort of veteran was not going to be in this role for this team. Some could make a case that you would have just cut the kids loose, but the Twins would never have done it. And judging from the kids performance so far, they would have been wrong too. The money isn't a factor either. The proper way to looks at it is the difference of what would have been signed instead. Tim Anderson for 4-5m? No thanks. My main case for bringing him back was the floor and he still brings that even if he's not hitting. I still expect him to get time in left field when the infield is at full tilt. He's still got a couple of months to start hitting, nobody has to like it. Much like Vazquez, who has extra value simply by freeing Jeffers from the rigors of catching now so he's fresh for the postseason, Farmer is simply a solid glue player that will help prevent emergencies from tanking a month. Rocco can depend on him not to forget how many outs there are or take out Kepler with fake hustle. There is value in that. The kids have to take the spot, and right now they aren't outside of Miranda.
  19. What is with this framing? WTH does Luke Keaschall have to do with a trade with the Reds? Cause he's an infielder with a bat, duh. News flash. They are going to trade a whole lot of other bat-only prospects in the future. It's not egregious, not in the least. Something of a redo, indeed. Starting with this article.
  20. It isn't hard to imagine getting him 5-6 games and pinch hit chances a week without any 2nd base nonsense. He ain't playing 2nd and Julien is a serious consideration to send down. Castro and Farmer can cover 2nd and Lewis probably DHs once and sits once a week, at least in the short term. Then a day or two at first as AK is playing more left field. If he's hitting, they can make it work.
  21. Every time I look up Jaylen Nowlin is just so solid. Anything on why Zebby went on the development list?
