  1. Top Prospects - Catchers >> The end of season list. #28 – Stuart Turner – 22 – C – Ft. Myers Miracle #31 – Mitch Garver – 23 – C – Cedar Rapids Kernels #35 – Brian Navarreto – 19 – C – Elizabethton Twins #39 – Jorge Fernandez – 20 – C – Elizabethton Twins #43 – Rainis Silva - 18 – C – GCL Twins
  2. That was a great article. Thanks Steve. This is a link to Reeds 2014 stats. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=596082#/career/R/pitching/2014/ALL
  3. Nobody has mentioned that Sano had Tommy John surgery for an arm injury. This means that Sano needs time to work his throwing mechanics before he moves up to the Twins. I would not be surprised if Sano is terrible until July or so and a fall call-up is not a done deal.
  4. Arizona has thin dry air usually at this time of year. Probably its a hitters league as breaking balls don't seem to break so much.
  5. Why do so many think Santana deserves to play SS? Everything leading up to 2014 indicated that Santana was an unfinished prospect at SS. Escobar did play sporadically and learned. He played a steady SS in 14 and if Santana the hitter had not emerged, we would be overjoyed with Escobar's play and we'd be looking forward to further improvement in 15. Santana the hitter played a steadily improving CF and, barring injuries, he could be a top caliber CF by the end of 15. He still has to overcome the "sophomore jinx", but his speed and bunting skills, should prevent Santana from falling into prolonged slumps.
  6. To me, this is a futile discussion. We don't yet have a manager, and the manager will have a big effect on the choice of outfielders. We don't know if TR plans to bring in a high salary player, and if so, will it be a starter or an outfielder? Will it be a FA or will it be obtained by trades. Too many unknowns for this thread to be anything but the rankest of speculations.
  7. A solid fielding SS is so very important to the pitching staff. A solid fielding SS is less important to the pitching staff. Let Escobar continue to play SS and Santana to play CF and they should both be solid at their positions next year.
  8. I found this site >>> http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/afl/club.jsp?team_id=527 which led to this site >>> http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/scoreboard.jsp?sid=l119&t=l_sco&lid=119 does anyone have any better sites for the AFL ?
  9. Good for Goins Hurray for the mushroom method..."Keep us in the dark and feed us sh*t." The less we know the less likely we are to publish something that could be harmful to the Twins.
  10. Mauer is now married and has twin daughters. That is far more important than his batting average or power numbers. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Perhaps his priorities have changed somewhat. Good for Joe.
  11. I'd be more inclined to trade Hicks than Plouffe. Plouffe can be be a plus fielder. He is faster than Parmalee and has a strong arm. I don't think ErvIn Santana is good enough to be in the Twins 2015 rotation. I'd rather see us trade for a younger unproven lefty to match with Milone.
  12. Arcia seems to be head strong and coachable at the same time. He is a visible presence in the dugout. The first to cheer and the first to high-five. He did change his hitting approach in the last 2 months and the result was a better average, less strikeouts and more home runs. I look forward to seeing what he will do in 2015.
  13. Pitch framing is an art that should become extinct as soon as MLB lets technology call the balls and strikes. Batters should focus on pitchers, not pitch framing and umpires faulty strike zones.
  14. My vote goes to Manny Acta. His Cleveland teams always seemed to play above their talent level.
  15. It makes me sad. I'm sure Gardy will have his pick of managing jobs in the near future. Thank you Gardy and good luck to you..
  16. I understand pitch framing and I understand the importance of the skill, but I hate that is in this age, it is still necessary. Technology should be calling balls and strikes, not umpires.
  17. I think Mauer's years as a .300 hitter are done. He should be moved toward the back of the lineup where Suzuki is hitting. As others have pointed out, more balls will be caught in LF with Willingham's departure, no matter who plays out there. Also, a number of balls have been misplayed due to the extra padding on the outfield walls. The newly padded walls should give the Twins a marginal home field advantage because the bounce is now difference from most other outfield walls. Also, the Twins need better fans. They should support this young, exciting team no matter what the record is. The Twins now have the pitchers to compete in 2015. I would take Gibson, Nolasco, Milone, Pelfrey, May & Meyer and put them on notice that they have a 2 bad game limit. 2 bad games and they go to the bullpen and the next pitcher is brought in. This would be true for Hughes too if he starts out badly. Molitor was supposed to help baserunning and bunting, and both have been terrible this year. I see no reason to continue Molitor's employment in 2015.
  18. After these recent games it is easy to be pessimistic. This team is very young and is learning in the majors. There are many reasons to be positive. May pitched a Quality start today with 10 strikeouts. Perkins got the save. The young guys continued to get key hits. Plouffe got a homer. Its easy to be critical, but this team gives us lots of reason to hope for next year.
  19. Thank you for the calculations. Converting them to .500 AB makes it easier to compare them. The numbers confirm what we have seen from Santana. However our eyes have told us that Santana is not as good a SS as E Escobar. Schafer has not been here a month. I'd like to see what the numbers say when the season is over. Pinto confirmed in AAA that he is a hitter and he should get regular AB in 2015. These numbers show us that Mauer could easily sit more so that Vargas can play 1B and Pinto can DH. Although Arcia's numbers do not look so great, the Angels intentionally walked him twice. Numbers don't tell us everything.
  20. Too much terrible baserunning. Molitor has to go.
  21. If Sano and/or Buxton perform well in AA next year, don't be surprised if the Twins do with them, what they did with Vargas this year... bring them up. Plouffe should start practicing playing LF as soon as possible (if he's not already.)
  22. LOL TEOLAWKI = The End of Life as We Know It A search can find out almost anything
  23. If Berrios has a strong Spring Training, I would not be surprised to see him to north with the Twins. However, I do think they will closely watch his pitch count, even in the majors. He is young enough to still have some growing to do.
  24. Good pitchers throw strikes. Lets see if Milone and May can throw strikes.
