  1. I bet he won't. Then the team would have to pay him instead of the Twins. I bet he clears waivers and selects free agency, and then signs and the signing team pays a prorated minimum salary and the Twins pay the rest.
  2. Overdue. Needed to happen earlier, but at least it is done? Sands? Have you seen his stats in AAA? People like to say he has "stuff". It just doesn't fool even the AAA batters much consistently. Or MLB batters in the brief times he has been given the ball in emergencies with the Twins. This was something that should have been done before the trade deadline, though. Maybe even including him in a trade as a forced piece if necessary. Baldelli likes to keep saying, even last night after the game, that Pagan has that great stuff, and he would continue to use Pagan in high leverage situations. I wish "stuff" wasn't as important as results.
  3. Nearly 4 months waiting on Alcala lost. Seems like such a waste of time that could have been avoided.
  4. Just don't tell Justin Verlander, fresh back from TJ surgery and still proving it doesn't have to be at 39 1/2
  5. Another TD article of praise that the team immediately makes look silly. Seems to be the TD jinx, Like clock work.
  6. Megill was OK until he was asked to pitch in the 2nd inning of the evening, after 14 pitches and the cool down. Duffey came in with runners on first and second, with one out, and gave up 2 inherited runs and 3 of his own with batting practice pitching. Relief was spelled inducing a double play, which he finally did after giving up 3 consecutive hits and a walk. Gray was wild but effective, and had 96 pitches after 5, so this was the night to pull him after 5 and be thankful that Toronto had no runs. Gray left handing the team and pen a 1-0 shutout. Pagan was middle middle, and one crushed with an 0-2 count! Just sad. 20 strikes in 25 pitches. It might help to be a little more deceptive. I keep hearing about hit and miss stuff, but I don't see it happening. Correa and Arraez didn't help with the defense, either. Even Arraez is badly slumping. .220 in his last 15 games, and .194 in his last 7. (.281 in last 30) Correa is .198 in his last 30 games, .207 in his last 15, and .167 in his last 7. Buxton is hot comparatively..... .194 in last 30, .241 in the last 15, and .250 in his last 7. Polanco is .228 in his last 30, .204 in his last 15, and .174 in the last 7. I hope Miranda is OK. That HBP to his wrist was LOUD!
  7. Just becsause there is plenty to dump on right now doesn't mean that Duffey still doesn't earn the massive dump he receives.
  8. I bet the new guys are real pumped about getting traded, now! Correa needs to start earning at least 10 mil of his 35. All that time he spent asking for help and he is not focused and needs to look in the mirror and make it happen himself. 3 hits. This team needs to WAKE UP! Yes. I saw the pitching. Well documented.
  9. All the pitchers are upgrades to what we had. It's about time. And I welcome them and could care less about the prospects traded. One year of a World Series is worth 20 of just competitive enough to get to the playoffs and lose a record setting 18 straight and counting. I hope that Lopez' one year of being desired after all the years of not keeps him at the high level. I hope that Mahle's expected stats start happening in reality instead of not. Buxton and his now healed hand should be happy that he doesn't have to step into the batter's box against Mahle's control. Fulmer seems to have found his niche, and with injuries behind him, hopefully he continues to get even better. To call it a "great" haul...... well..... OK. Compared to meager past trade deadlines, it is remarkable. And we really needed the pitching and could use more. We have been conditioned to get nothing, or give up some of our favorite players for strangers and prospects that never pan out, so this seems like the cat's meow. Berrios was traded with the same control left that Mahle was traded for, and it was pitched and argued that it was a must to do so by so many to get value. So was Pressly. The Berrios haul has been so not helpful to the Twins, and have not even advanced a level in the minors yet. Does this mean the Mahle is now on the block for this off season? This upcoming 5 games against the Blue Jays and Dodgers should be telling.
  10. Don't forget the Tommy John year+ for Kirilloff. Quite a long history of top prospects not being able to stay on the field. https://theathletic.com/3340279/2022/05/31/twins-top-prospects-injuries/ Snakebit again. Alex needs some luck, here. It isn't his heart, but glass comes to mind.
  11. "Although Mahle doesn’t look great on the surface, he is much better than these numbers indicate. ....Target Field is the second best park to pitch in, so Mahle will go from being at a heavy disadvantage to a severe advantage simply by changing home stadiums..... .....Mahle is one of the unluckiest pitchers in the league...... .....Among Twins starters, Mahle has the lowest expected ERA and the lowest expected batting average against (.206).' We will see. Personally, I would rather have a lucky player than consistently unlucky. I alway cringe when you have to sort through the stats available to try to make a case for why someone that is "expected" to be better, but isn't to date, and hasn't been. I would rather see a low ERA and a higher expected ERA, because what actually happens/happened is way more important and real than what one would expect or hope for. I would rather read about what was great and not expected than one is supposedly much better than he actually performed. And if Target Field is the second best park to pitch in, that means that our pitching has been even worse than we think, and our pitchers are worse than we think, because with Target Field, it is expected it should have been much better with the advantage.
  12. And so ends the one game winning streak. Started with the lowly Tigers, and ended with the lowly Tigers. But Hey! We are still first in the Central. Jax called on 3 of the last 4 days proves too often. Who would have thunk it? But I hear help is on the way. We need it.
  13. Because it is sooooooo important who put it to writing first? I, for one, could care less who found out first. Somebody told them and knew before they did! It matters not. Everyone knows soon enough. It is the race to be first that so often results in wrong or false info.
  14. Well, the Gaurdians gave up a catcher that they wouldn't even let play in the show....... I hope Correa is so impressed he starts earning his $35 million, and shows up way more often.
  15. I hope Mahle is worth it. At least he can't break Buxton's hand again with his lack of control. I always am leary when the argument for the player is that he should be better than he has been if only he............ this time..... insn't pitching in Cincy half the games. I hope it works out for us. I hope he proves it. That was a lot to give up for the same amount of time that the reasoning was we had to trade Berrios with a year and a half of control left.
  16. Where is Butera when you need him. This is help?
  17. Even with Jeffers, the hole is sucking energy from the universe.
  18. If Correa is not going to commit to 2023 now, and there is no reason for him to do so except that he wants to be here, because he knows that Lewis is not in the works for 2023 until later at best, then trade him if someone is crazy enough to give some value for him in pitching. I wouldn't have said that a week ago, but this team is so pitching deprived that it is crazy to think this will change with what the pitching gurus have come up with. 35 mil and he is pretty much not worth half of it for how he has performed. I don't really see how they can "buy" enough to change the fate that awaits because of the pitching. All pitching. Not just the pen.
  19. Miranda had a great game. Great defensive play at third, and two separate trips around the bases that were smart hustle and execution. And his bat PLAYS!
  20. And I entertained that thought, too! And that Baldy could be of the thought that Duran needs regular work to stay sharp, regardless of score, and a low leverage appearance would be good for his confidence and stress after the 32 pitch sketchy outing. (But that would be quite a different tact than leaving Ryan in to be demoralized….). I tried to defend Baldy in my internal dialogue. Duran had just started soft tossing when the score was already 4-1, and it was then immediately 5-1. Check out the replay of the game. He really hadn’t ramped up and committed until it was clear his weapons could be best utilized another day. Duran could have just soft tossed as the score quickly climbed to 6-1 and then 7-1 after a long at bat. Or sat down at 6-1. This is why I found no real defense for the decision. The good news is he looked great and only had to throw 11 sparkling pitches to set the goofy looking Padres down.
  21. I have never once called for Baldelli to get fired. I can have an opinion about his decisions without calling for his job. So you feel that Baldelli is not managing, but a puppet of his bosses? The decisions made are not his, but Falvey or Levine's? I guess I was giving him more credit and am of the mind that he is the manager and the decisions are his.
  22. I couldn't believe that. Wasted inning on his arm. Totally unnecessary. ,500 since All-Star break. I hope Cleveland and Chicago don't get hot. It seemed like nobody wanted to win the AL West in 1987 either. And that turned out pretty well for us. We did have a lot better pitching, though.
