  1. If he was on the Twins, at least he couldn't purposely throw the ball at our hitters.......
  2. "It doesn’t make sense to overspend on relief pitchers......." Definitely opinion and not fact. In fact....... recent (the last decade) post season runs that are successful would beg loudly to differ.
  3. Lots of fluff left. Just goes to show, a minor league star means littell toward being a major league roster holder. Granite still rock solid and survives another cut. That's what amazes me.
  4. History is history. In my book, not to be forgotten, conveniently, since he will be a player on one's favorite team now. Transgressions admitted, which accepting the suspension equates to, can be used to help the younger players be aware of paths not to make, and that is very helpful, and a good mentor. But to just forget them, for me, is intellectually dishonest. https://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/texas-rangers-nelson-cruz-biogenesis-suspension-ped-jon-daniels-al-wild-card-092313
  5. I guess this is an example where it subjectively fits to just speak of his recent small sample, than to use his not so attractive career stats....... and I agree. Brings better hope.
  6. "Littell came back to the Twins when they needed an arm in early July, and then he ended the season with a September call up. He was the youngest player to play for the Twins in 2018. Only Lewis Thorpe pitched at a younger age at Rochester in 2018. Thorpe is about six weeks younger." What a tease. Just how young is youngest? 20? 21? Do we have to look it up?
  7. Get it out!
  8. "Additionally, his reputation as someone who puts in work away from the field could be influential to the younger players." Does this include his PED usage and suspension? I guess we just want to forget all about that......
  9. Washington was a shrewd pitcher evaluator, and the Twins' were the hopeful suckers, here. Both ends of the trade... in (Span) and out (Santiago and Busenitz) ..... were horrible. Results stats don't care about injuries. I guess apologists can't regurgitate the "can't tell until time passes" nugget anymore - or will they still? C'est la vie.
  10. Marwin Gonzalez and David Robertson.
  11. "The next Mike Trout isn’t going to fall into the laps of an organization." Yet....... THE Mike Trout, did. Go figure.
  12. Cruz better f-ing hit. Because there isn't anything else he can do. Maybe this isn't the year that he starts not hitting. But it is coming. And soon. Maybe next year, and we get another year of hitting. But when it happens, it sure happens quick, and management always seems so slow to respond. At least the FO signed someone that is currently hitting, instead of yet another short contract that is not hitting, and comes to the Twins from a horrible year. But betting on Cruz, now, and a bounce back from Sano and Buxton, (with Buxton it is really the first bounce that makes a complete year...), and Schoop and Cron and Pineda and Odorizzi and Reed, a first lasting bounce from Kepler, no regression from Rosario and Polanco and Gibson and Berrios, and a complete mystery waiting to unfold behind the plate......... is where we are at. Oh, and the pen.... I don't really like to think about the bullpen anymore. And they all could have a career year!
  13. So two down years projects to be better next year by reverting to career totals that make it appear more attractive? And a turning the corner year gets the same treatment in the other direction? I'm not buying. Trending performance means a lot more to me, and I hope it does to the new manager, too.
  14. .....with one of the worst records to make the playoffs all time in 2017, and wouldn't have come close with the same record this year. Not really a big deal in my book, especially since, arguably, with a better manager, they wouldn't have lost 103 the year before after winning 83 in 2015. That kind of graph does not indicate anything sustained to me. Kind of a novelty..... even though a team can and has won the World Series with only 85 regular season wins....... (and one with only 83 wins!) And even though the one game wild card game is called a playoff game...... it is really more like a play-in game to get into the playoffs. Personally, I am not impressed or enamored by it, since they never should have been so bad in 2016.
  15. Totally agree. But the sad thing is... LoMo = Cron and that is who they signed.
  16. Buxton has not played poorly, he has just hit poorly, with brilliant hot streaks as well. Buxton is like no one else, no matter who one likes to compare him to. I wouldn't cut bait with him no matter what he does this year. But it is still time to put up or shut up for him. I'm betting he does, and right out of the gate this year. I got no feelings about Sano.
  17. He added: "I wouldn't say we're on the same page, but I ain't going to cause [trouble] between us. I want to be here. This is where I started my career, [and] this is where I want to finish my career, for my teammates, my brothers." I guess if one just ignores this part of the very short article, and this part.... He said he's using the snub as motivation entering the season. "I'm pretty pumped, ready to get the season going," Buxton said. "I guess because I didn't come back, I've got an edge. I don't think it's going away. So for me to be happy, I've got to get back to playing ball." ......one could think that. But I take him for his word...... and it doesn't appear to be much damage to me. He just has to stay on the field and perform. Even when he was healthy last year at the beginning, he still absolutely sucked at the plate, and that is all on him. Time to become, instead of talking about it.
  18. Exactly. Some team that promises him playing time.
  19. Good for Buxton. Now put up or shut up. Time's up. Tic toc.
  20. When you have a World Series Champion, and almost all your team is returning.... then standing pat as a strategy is maybe understandable. But those teams still make moves to improve! When you digressed and sucked? Not so much. Make that not at all. I feel the Ghost of Connie Mack applauding, though. Anyone can stand pat. Not the leadership that I was hoping for. I can't pretend to understand.
  21. But wasn't Bill Smith just Terry Ryan in a Bill Smith costume?
  22. ....but after the 2018 season, they certainly wouldn't have wanted to resign him and for me, it would be added to the failure of free agents picked by the FO so far. How about you? If his 2018 season had been for the Twins... would you then want to resign him?
  23. Career lines are often noted when players are coming off a year of drastic decline. The future doesn't care about career stats, though. The teams that had both of these guys last year..... all 4 of them.... cast them off and don't want them back. The teams and management the most familiar with them. Sure, any player could have a comeback year. Maybe they both will. But I can't not pay attention the the recent trend. Hopefully Schoop will be the first pick up by this front office that really shines. I'm not betting any money on it, though.
  24. I thought I read that the FO felt that the one year veterans were not good for the team and team chemistry. One foot out the door as the season starts.....
