"Bat first". Positions that aren't bat first? People like to say that about catcher, short stop, center field.... but I call foul. It is always important to be able to hit, and there are always those that play those positions that hit, and hit well, and settling for someone that doesn't is just lazy, even it there isn't an abundance of good hitters, period.

When pitchers aren't their sharpest, and they still only let 2 runs cross the plate in 6 complete...... I feel they pitched better than their line shows, not worse. 105 pitches was plenty (last two starts were 118 pitches/7 innings/2 runs and 103/7/1). That shows a pitcher, and a good pitcher. But once again, the team, bats and pen, lets him down. 1-2 record to show for it. The pen only need to get 9 outs, and they did, after giving up 7 runs.

This front office is irresponsible. We have several pitchers, MLB ready, to do the option dance with and protect the pen. Plenty. Busenitz, Curtiss, Duffey, Mejia, Moya..... and then Gonsalves, Littell, Slegers........... What? We would lose guys like Belisle? Creative use of the DL for dead arms (Reed, Pressly, etc)..... no problem. We need to see these other pitchers, and use them and get them opportunities. What is wrong with this front office? This has been evident for a month, now! Instead, they go out and sign dumpster diving cast offs to block players from opportunities. And the replacement level players with no future like Wilson, LaMarre, Motter, Adrianza, Grossman, Cave, Garver - and the failure of Morrison....... what are they doing? How is this making the team better. We are getting crushed, and by the front office, not crushing it. There, I said it.

Article: MIN 6, BOS 2: Bats Get to Boston Bullpen
h2oface replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The official scoring that lets a pitcher get the win after blowing the save..... never have liked it. Especially if the pitcher that blows the lead did it all with his own batters, and no inherited runners. Way to go Duke. I guess relief is not spelled D-U-K-E! I still like to see pitchers get wins, regardless of how sabr statisticians like to say wins are meaningless.- 56 replies

"Because of that catastrophe (2016), Minnesota's jump to 85 wins in 2017 looked like a momentous achievement, rather than a modest improvement from their 83 wins in 2015." Yup. Absolutely. Not overlooked by many here as we were chastised for suggesting he was no manager of the year last year. And where is Doug Mientkiewicz? For those of us that wanted to see the younger, fiery, Doug Mientkiewicz get the manager's job instead of Molitor, and stuck up for him when fired this off season and when he was run out of the Twins' org ..... how is he doing? 40-28 (and that is after recently going 1-3 in the last 4) for Detroit's AAA team, the Toledo Mud Hens, leading the AAA International League West, with the best record in all of the IL. Still winning, inspiring his players who love to play for him, no matter where he is. But not good enough for this FO. Very telling.

I read somewhere that Polanco recently smashed his hand in a door, and is going to lose some rehab time.... but supposedly that will not affect when he is going to be able to come come back, just how ready he will be.....- 35 replies

Article: MIN 6, CLE 3: Anything is Possible
h2oface replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
His 1.31 ERA and .92 WHIP is just too low for Molitor. No trust. 20.2 innings in 13 games, and he has already given up 16 hits and 3 walks. Better to over use who he trusts, regardless of the 5 run lead. Besides Rodgers needed the work.... obviously. Oh, and I was a big advocate of playing LaMarre when he was hot. That doesn't mean to keep playing him when he comes back to earth. But then, why use your farm, eh?- 35 replies

Article: Trying to Get a Reed on Addison
h2oface replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Trevor Hildenberger just recently gave up another 2/2 inherited runners scored to add to the 7/7 stretch at the beginning of the year....... which is not thst far behind us.... to make 9 that I can remember without looking them up to see if there is more. Inherited runners scored, to me, is the most important stat to indicate the effectiveness of a reliever. It is, after all, supposed to be relief, and not let the runs be charged to someone else, and I still look OK with the other stats. I certainly don't think Hildenberger is the long term answer, but he is what we have. -
A one week of slowing down, and that negates the rest of the year? He had weeks like this in AA, too. He will have weeks like this in the Show. What he has been proving, with the whole sample size, and not just the couple weeks in AAA, is that this is the outlier, and not the trend. Sure, just keep him put, and waste it in the minors instead of seeing if he can help the only team that counts. Nobody is ever sure of readiness, until the opportunity is present. No one can know unless the opportunity is given. It surely can't hurt the big league team to see, at this point.

Article: Miguel Sano Optioned to Ft. Myers
h2oface replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Try to trade Sano now! Talk about a total devaluation of a very high value asset since Falvine took the reigns. Their fault? Not necessarily, but happening under their watch. This all is. And it is not going very well, as a whole, eh? This was the year that it all was to fall into place......... -
Article: Don't Give Up On These Twins Quite Yet
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is now one horrible team. So totally disappointing. Can't even win a series against the Tigers. The Falvey/Levine coaches seem to have no inspiration or ability of right the ships either, and throughout the minors, too. So much for the change in leadership. For those of us that wanted to see Doug Mientkiewicz get the manager's job instead of Molitor, and stuck up for him when fired..... how is he doing?..... 39-25 for Detroit's AAA team. the Toledo Mud Hens. Still winning, inspiring his players who love to play for him, no matter where he is. But not good enough for this FO. Very telling.- 54 replies

Exactly. It could have been 8-7. The one run lead in the 8th is the only important point at this time in the game.

True, but the fact is he is sooo hitable. Every pitch can be touched and made contact with. And a single is a single is a single. In the end, it doesn't really matter. Every batter was hitting the ball.

Regardless of the offense, they had the lead after 7. Molitor chooses to give it to Reed. Keeps doing the same thing and expects different results. 5 out of the last 6, now, isn't it? Hello Magill. Stick a fork in Reed. This is sickening.

Article: Twins Sign Belisle: What Does This Mean?
h2oface replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Belisle was the dirge of the Cleveland bullpen that is in shambles, the bottom of the heap, the chaff to get rid of, the pitcher to cull. If this is the "move that the front office is giving Molitor and the team, a veteran, in an attempt to win this year", then the FO has lost their mind. Seth listed the pitchers in AAA. I am one disgusted 58 year Twins fan.- 82 replies

Maybe. I can't, however. He had plenty of time, for the grizzly vet that he is, and he kept throwing on his own. He didn't come to camp unprepared. And regardless, each and every appearance counts. He said he was ready. I am not one to say he doesn't know what he is talking about. And a player can only get one qualifying offer, now (at least two years old rule, I believe), so no comp pick or anything else. I saw Nolasco have good months, too. That didn't fool me either. Nor other GM's that could have acquired him.
