  1. I can relate to #5. My sister-in-law recently picked up two adult cats at the shelter and you can't get near them!!! I'm thinking why wouldn't you just get a nice puppy that would come tumbling into your lap every time you sat down, a puppy that would ALWAYS be happy to see you (as compared to say, your wife, who is only happy to see you some of the time). Different strokes for different folks.
  2. You have an excess of starting pitching and a weakness in the bullpen, use that excess to strengthen a weakness!! Seems logical to me.
  3. I don't think we'll see Berrios unless there is an injury to some other starting pitcher in the next couple of weeks.
  4. Good informative article!!! Thanks!!
  5. There's no such thing as too much pitching. The Twins just need to be a little quicker at making a change when the starters under perform.
  6. There you have it. Until the Twins find better relievers for the pen, this year AND in 2016, May should stay in the pen. The one problem I see with that is May's attitude. I'm sure that Molitor sat down with him this year and said "we need you out there" , so May has worked hard and performed. If he gets forced to the pen next year without a chance at starting and big bucks down the road, will he have the same attitude??
  7. The Twins have plenty of starters, they need relief help, leave him in the pen thru 2016. By then the 'excess' starters will work themselves out of a job, some of the big relief arms in the minors should be coming up, and hopefully by this time next year hopefully we'll be seriously contending -- May's arm will be needed in the pen.
  8. You guys are setting yourself up for a lot of disapointment if you think that the Twins are going to get a catcher. They like Suzuki and the pitchers like throwing to him, barring a major injury, in my opinion he'll be the starting catcher next year. The Twins aren't known for making major trades, and especially won't do it for a position that they think they have filled. They might trade for a better backup or sign a marginal free agent catcher but I think a more likely scenario is Turner or Garver playing themselves into a 50-50% playing time ratio with Suzuki by this time next year.
  9. As i was reading thru this thread my thoughts were that the Twins like Suzuki, the pitchers like throwing to him, and that barring injury, he's going to be the starting catcher in 2016. Like it or not. Hopefully Turner or Garver play good enough to be the backup, with increased playing time thru the year, getting them ready to start in 2017. I don't see the Twins making a major trade for a catcher.
  10. Lets see, the Twins had managers and scouts in their own system watching the two players traded, scouts watching relievers on other teams, Twins management were the people on the phones talking to other teams regarding possible trades for relievers, and what it was going to take to trade for them, and you're telling me that a bunch of impatient, gotta win now bloggers know more about the trade value of relievers than Twins management and scouts that have years in the business?? Really??!!!! You also know that it takes years before a trade can be fairly judged. I read this morning that Jepson might be the interim closer. If he's lights out the rest of the year -- successful trade!!! If he sucks - bad trade!! If one of the two prospects develops into Cy Young -- bad trade!!! If neither makes the majors -- good trade!! To be fair, we won't know if its a good trade or a bad trade for years to come.
  11. I'll stand by my 'damned if they do, damned if they don't assertion'. Forget the bold move, even trading for Jepson, a guy that is better than a lot of their other relievers and is under contract for next year, was roundly booed here on TD, lots of posters thought too much was given up. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
  12. We don't know what they did were trying to do or what kind of offers they made or were getting at the deadline. Its almost like here on TD they're damned if they do and damned if they don't, if they give up to much they get vilified, if they don't do anything they get vilified.
  13. Part of the problem is the nature of the articles, even by the owners, I read them and think 'this is like throwing red meat to the lions', the article is going to incite a lot of negative comments. I do agree though the negative comments day after day get old. Then its time to: 1) ignore some of the obvious negative commentors 2) go elsewhere on the net
  14. Its unbelievable that the Twins didn't have Santana pee in a bottle and get drug tested BEFORE they signed him to a contract or that MLB doesn't allow them to cut players that test positive for PED's. The Twins needed to improve their starting pitching in order to improve, the did that by signing Hughes, Nolasco, and Santana, and they had to sign them to longer terms in order to get them to sign. It is what it is. With injuries, they don't have have too much starting depth. It'll work out. Would people rather see all the AAA starters here instead?? That would make for a long season!!!
  15. Hind site is 20-20. No doubt it would have been nice to have May the last few days. I think the Twins expected at least one or two of the young relief pitchers in the minors to be better and up here by now. Problem is, who in the minors IS worth calling up now?? Stashing a rule 5 guy on the roster is ok on a rebuilding team but now being in the wild card hunt, its hurting them. Only time and Graham's long term future will tell whether its the right thing to do. At this point they may as well stick with him. The Twins learned after Ron Davis that a good closer is important, its very demoralizing for a team to lose close games all the time and since then they've normally had a good closer. Now they're learning that a lousy bullpen can be demoralizing too. As with any good team it still boils down to starting pitching and right now they're not getting enough innnings out of their starters. Going to be a long road trip!!! Better hope Santana pitches a good game today!!
  16. You can also throw Arcia and Vargas into this discussion because they'll also be competing for playing time in the outfield, first base, and DH. Come spring training, Arcia will get the most slack because hes out of options. Kepler could force his way onto the roster if the keeps hitting but my guess is that he ends up in AAA. And Vargas will really have to rake to get out of AAA before next summer. Its a good problem to have. Hopefully Terry Ryan trades the right one. Which brings up the question, when is it best to trade a prospect?? If you wait too long and they fail (Arcia) you get a bag of balls for them. Do you trade Hicks now that he looks to be on the rise? Or do you wait until he has another good year and then trade him?? You hate to trade off a prospect like Kepler and see him develop into a star but on the other hand it takes a quality player to bring back a quality player. Its a crap shoot.
  17. Don't forget about Hunter, like it or not, he'll also be taking some of that outfield time.
  18. Yes!!!! He needs to play smarter, not harder, he needs to realize that he shouldn't try to make a spectacular catch on every ball, save the hi-lite reel catches for the bottom of the ninth or a playoff game! He doesn't need to be superman, he just needs to use his natural speed and talent. He's worth more to the Twins on the field than on the injured list and taking the risk of that diving, spectacular catch that has a high chance of injuring himself is not smart.
  19. Best line in the whole article!! Patience is a virtue!!!!
  20. Its not going to hurt Buxton one bit to spend three weeks at AAA and hopefully as JB points out, he'll learn a few things. I think what has been hurt the most it the Twins fans psyche.
  21. I agree, its up to Mauer. It would be nice if he'd just say to heck with it, I've banked enough money and I don't like to perform at a low level - but how many people will walk away from 23 million dollars??! Plus he sees the team improving the next couple of years, I'm sure he'd like to be part of a championship team. It will be up to the team to just start limiting his playing time. So that leaves trading Plouffe. Hate to see him go but if he could bring back a good SS or catcher, do it. That would free up the DH spot for Arcia, Vargas, etc.
  22. Been watching to see if you'd post in this thread Mike!!! Thumbs up!!
  23. It helped that a moderator jumped in and squelched the first negative post.... Sometimes I think this forum is over moderated but in this case - Thanks Mr. Moderator!!!
