  1. If its not the athletes fault, whose fault is it?? The coaches?? His parents? His younger brother? The weather? Oh I know, its Terry Ryan's fault. Sorry, I haven't drank the kool-aid yet that makes everything Terry Ryan's fault. He could give out free tickets to the home opener and some people would blame him. Ultimately the player has to look in the mirror and take responsibility. IF Duffy had pitched this spring like he did last summer, he'd be in the rotation. Granted, there is no doubt Duffy had a shorter leash because of his youth, inexperience, and the fact he had options left. Santana and Hughes would have had to break a leg not to be in the starting rotation but too bad so sad that's the way it is. In five years maybe Duffy will be in that position but I'm not crying a river for Duffy now. Go down to AAA and pitch lights out and he'll be back by the all-star break. Go down and pout and he gets to stay in AAA all year. Thats just the way it is.
  2. When Duffy looks in the mirror, he has no one to blame but himself. Giving Tonkin a few weeks in a row might show that he is a capable, trade-able reliever. We won't know until they give him a shot. Burdi and company will get their chance. They can go down and do a "Milone", be lights out, prove "I'm first", force the Twins to make a move. Competition is good.
  3. This. Buxton will get hurt or play his way back to AAA, clearing a spot for Kepler, provided Kepler is raking. Or you could see Rosario goto center and Arcia see more playing time when Buxton gets sent down. When the inevitably injury comes along, the player(s) playing the best will get their shot. Depth is a good thing!!!
  4. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. If Duffy would have pitched like he did late last summer, in my opinion, he'd be in the rotation. As far as the 'uninspiring' group of relievers, Tonkin is out of options, freeing up another spot gives them the chance to kick the can down the road 6 weeks, gives Tonkin a true chance to succeed - or get cut. It gives the next group of relievers, starting with Burdi, a chance to compete, to prove with their performance "pick me, pick me".
  5. Even without Duffy and Nolasco starting today I think the decision has been made -- Nolasco in the rotation and Duffy to AAA -- simply because it makes it easier to keep one more reliever. Duffy has no one to blame but himself, the 5th starter position was his to lose -- and he lost it.
  6. A lot of talk about D. Santana and his versatility, where does this leave Nunez?? Who is the primary infield backup?? Who starts when Dozier or Escobar gets a day off?
  7. Lets 'assume' Nolasco is in the starting rotation out of spring training, at what point do you trade him?? If he's 7-2 at the trade deadline and the Twins are winning, you'd look foolish trading him. Are you trying to win or stockpile for the future? If he's 2-7, what team in their right mind would trade for him?? The ideal situation in my mind would be for him to have a winning record and be able to trade him for a player that could help the team now, a power relief arm or leadoff hitter. Taking this a step farther, you trade Nolasco and you have an injury, that means Berrios and Duffey are called up, whos next in line in case the Twins need another starter?? And lets not rehashrehashrehash May because that dead horse has been beat to death and hes needed in relief for 2016. Whos the next starter up? It seems to me that the Twins are not that deep in starting pitching depth...
  8. I heard Terry Ryan talk about Pressly over the winter, he likes him, "he's got good stuff". At this point it looks to me like he's made the roster.
  9. I guess I disagree. I see four major league starters on the list in Santana, Hughes, Gibson, and Milone. None a true ace but they should keep you in the game and give you a chance to win. Nolasco -- is a crap shoot, he could join the list or be Pelfrey II. Then you have Berrios primed to come up when the inevitable injury occurs. With an improved Duffey right behind him. All the names are better than the dregs and projects that they've started in the past. Top to bottom they all give the Twins a good chance to win, a good chance of not being down 5-0 after 3 innings.
  10. It'll be five years before we know if this is a good trade. Hopefully it works out for both teams. I like it, the Twins needed a young catcher with some upside, they have lots of outfielders, they traded from a position of strength, what more can you ask for in a trade?
  11. But if he doesn't have the arm to play shortstop why not get him moved to a different position and get some experience at a lower level? Instead of watching his struggles at the big league level, where games REALLY count??
  12. Thanks Thrylos!!! Always nice to read a review from people who are actually at the games!! Keep calling them like you see them!!!
  13. I never have understood why Plouffe stayed at shortstop thru his whole minor league career but when he hits the majors THEN they decide he can't play shortstop. Baffling.
  14. I think a few more days off wouldn't hurt either. The season is a grind, you can't tell me that he's not wearing down.
  15. What kind of odds would you give me?? I'd bet you even up that it will be Nolasco in the rotation. Right or wrong there is that $12 million dollar salary and Duffy having an option.
  16. Its a fine line. We've traded some 'excess' center fielders and then the ones we kept didn't cut it (Hicks). Yet one of the ones we kept got released (Benson). Now we're getting to the point where we might have 'excess' middle infielders in the system, should one of them be traded for a position of need, with the risk that the ones that are kept will be guaranteed major league players? Its a crap shoot.
  17. Especially if they're 86 years old like mine is.
  18. "only 1.3 million" -- How many of us will make 1.3 million in our lifetime? May was a very average starter when he had the chance, now having him in the pen makes the Twins a better team, thats all I care about.
  19. Is anybody really surprised? If you raise your hand I have some beachfront land in Alaska to sell you..... People complain because the Twins aren't doing enough to win NOW but when they make a move like this that is best for the 2016 team -- they have plenty of starters, need a good reliever, May fits the bill -- its roundly booed. You can't have it both ways. The only one hurt by this is May, instead of making starter wages when he hits free agency he'll make reliever wages of half half that, Boo hoo, cry me a river. In a few years when Hughes, Santanna, and Nolasco are gone he'll get his chance.
  20. But how many millions has he already banked?? How many million do you need to feed your family? There comes a time when you need to enjoy life. Good for him!!
  21. Kepler's fate is in his own hands, go down and show some mental fortitude, don't pout, knock the cover off the ball, do a 'Milone' and prove that he belongs in Minnesota. If he does that, the Twins will find a way, he'll be up by June 1. Or he can do an 'Arcia', go down and bat .198, then he'd be lucky to see Minnesota in September. The choice is his.
  22. I agree, except on Pressly, because he still has options. I think Tonkin will get his spot and a very short leash. Arcia and Santana are also on very short leashes, I could see one or both of them gone by May 15. But if Arcia rakes and Park fades I could see Park to AAA. Going to be interesting!!! The wild card is Nolassco. If they start him in the hopes that they can trade him later, that sends Duffy to AAA and opens up another relief spot. Not what I want to see but thats what I predict the Twins will do.
  23. And what does that do for his confidence?? Some players can handle the beat down, some can't. My prediction is by mid-May he'll be back down to AAA, but the experience of starting the season in Minnesota and seeing what pitchers are doing to get him out will help in the long run by showing him what he needs to work on.
